I bought the Hamlet because I knew I was going to need the +buy, and I didn't want to have to waste a turn where I had 5 or more coins picking it up.  I also figured the chance of picking a Governor the first time through the deck wasn't fantastic, and with the thinning produced by two Bishops I would be able to buy more Governors in the long run.

Bishop is a slow trasher, and the problem is that Governor games are over before the long run even begins. As to opening Hamlet: there's an opportunity cost to buying a card you don't need until later, and there's no need to "waste a turn", you can always gain it by remodelling a coper with one of the many Governor's you'll soon have when you open silver/silver
