It must have been a typo.  Donald obviously meant to type Masquerade, not Ambassador.

Dominion Isotropic / oh, Fellhand, I completely understand
« on: January 26, 2013, 05:05:20 pm »
If my opponent had managed to pair his Sea Hag and Scheme on turn three and then his first Sea Hag had hit mine like mine did yours, I would be annoyed at his good luck too.

But I probably wouldn't have cursed the other guy out and then ragequit, y'know?

I found this on Boardgame Geek.  It is by Hipper Than Thou and I can't give any better attribution at the moment because BGG is down as I post this.

Edit: BGG is back up!  Here's the geeklist with all the songs: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/66405/the-voices-in-my-head-a-musical-geeklist

I don't really know what the general public can tolerate in games. I think normal people can play Dominion, and I know it's done well as a gamers' spouses game. I don't know if full-on non-gamer couples would actually prefer it to other entertainment options though. I do not have much to go on there.

I can speak to this.  My sister likes to play games, but before I introduced her to hobby games, her favorite games were things like Sequence.  We've only played a handful of hobby games, but there have only been two that she liked enough to want to play more of them: Dominion and Ticket To Ride.  So there you go.  My anecdotal evidence totally supports you.  Now if I can just stop her from calling the card, "Smitty..."

I wish I knew more about Dominion before I started making fan cards for it and I wish I had listened to people instead of ignoring them.

Buggy vs Orange - being played tonight

Maybe.  We seem to keep missing each other.  I'm in Secret Chamber on Iso waiting, but need to go to sleep at 10 EST.  Not sure what to do if we don't finish up the match tonight.

Orange PMed me about a half hour ago.  We're gonna try to finish out set tonight, if we can catch each other online.

I hate to do this.  I mean I really hate to do this.

Here is a link to a solitaire game that I played for a few seconds on Isotropic at 5:04.  I had been waiting for Orange to complete our match since around 4:50.  We were supposed to play today at 5:00 to complete our match.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/09/game-20121209-140425-aebc2cdb.html

I've messaged Orange and I hope he's ok.

If he doesn't get back to me, I guess I win by default?  If he does, I'd be more than happy to finish up our match, but I won't be available until Tuesday evening...
I think you give more than 10 minutes lead time. I don't know how much, but I would guess 10 minute leeway is not such a big deal, unless you stressed "it must be EXACTLY this time because my schedule is very cramped" or something when setting up the match time.

I stayed waiting for a good 10-20 minutes after that, although I have no proof to back that statement up.

Actually, I believe he's posted in this very thread.
Sorry buggy. My other example was Richard Garfield, so you're in good company.

I'm right here!  And I don't feel bad.  It is kinda funny that the very next message in the thread after he talked about my cards was him answering my questions...

What is your favorite combo, or engine?

Do you still play a lot of Dominion, or has that tapered off so you can concentrate on other projects?

Read the top post more carefully. There are only 6 Diamonds in the Supply.

Ah, I missed that.  Thanks.

I try not to pick nits, but it probably should say "-$1 per Diamond in the supply, to a minimum of 0.  Return this card to the supply."

Otherwise, with 9 Diamonds in supply, the Diamond is worth -$3.  Can I buy a Copper with -$3?

Buggy vs. Orange.  Buggy is currently ahead 3-2, but we need to finish the match up this weekend.

Game 1:  Buggy.  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/05/game-20121205-160129-3f41a4f1.html  I win through the simple strategy of getting a 5/2 opening split.  Then I ride the Governor train to Province Station.

Game 2:  Orange.  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/05/game-20121205-160929-feadbd15.html  He wins by totally stealing my 5/2 split strategy from the first game and then deftly setting up a very elegant Hamlet/Library/Tunnel engine that worked quite well for him.

Game 3:  Buggy.  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/05/game-20121205-162256-58e6c780.html  Orange tries a Vault/GM strategy, but my Witches, well, act like Witches.

Game 4:  Buggy.  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/05/game-20121205-163747-12b54108.html  This one was very very close.  I normally loathe Contraband, but we both make good use of it here.  Also, it's kinda funny when we both realize halfway through not to play Shanty Town if we have a Contraband in hand.

Game 5:  Orange.  http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201212/05/game-20121205-165035-1b7f59e9.html  So, we all have a least favorite card and mine is Goons, but now is not the time for ranting.  Now is the time to congratulate Orange on setting up an elegant little Golem/Goon/Masquerade pin and to shame Buggy for making two big mistakes.  (Early on, I said to myself, "now keep a bad card," so what did I have in hand with the first Goons/Masquerade salvo?  Envoy-Gold-Gold.  Then later, I clicked Moat for the first Goons but failed to for the second Goons (because I thought it was asking for Moat again for the first Goons).  Then Orange graciously allowed me to resign.  Goons.  I hate them so very much!

So the score stands at 3-2.  We'll finish up this weekend.

It's sad that people join DS.com just to register for the tournament and then never come back.  Maybe for future large DS.com sponsored tournaments, there should be a minimum activity level on the forum in order to participate.  After all, this is the DS.com Championship!!

Some of us only lurk here.  Maybe a different metric?

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Power Grid promo card
« on: November 09, 2012, 11:45:20 am »
I like Ozle's idea, but I wonder if it could be something that makes Village variants cost less somehow.  That way your card is powering Cities like in Power Grid.

Hm, is this too complex:

Foundry
Victory - Reaction
1 VP
You may reveal and discard this from your hand at the start of your Buy phase.  If you do, cards that have the word City or Village in their title cost $1 less this turn (but not less than $0).
Setup:  Add an extra Kingdom card pile that has the word City or Village in its title to the Supply if there is not one already.
