Dominion General Discussion / Re: Iso or Goko?
« on: February 18, 2013, 05:46:18 pm »
But you didn't already buy it.  Just because you already bought Gone with the Wind on VHS doesn't mean they'll send you the BluRay for free.  There's nothing wrong with watching it on VHS, but if you want to watch the BluRay, you do have to pay for it again.

im aware of the business model. i know they need to make money. i know they don't have to give it to me for free just because ive bought the actual cards. but ive spent over $200 on the game and i dont want to pay more to play online. it might be that a lot of people agree with me, and if that's the case, then it may not have been a good idea to put money into creating a paid version of online dominion. time will tell.

Again, then play with people who've already bought all the expansions.

Does this really work? I mean, if I haven't bought all the expansions but play with someone who has, I will be able to play the expansions they own but I don't?

As of now it looks as if I will be posting weekly kingdoms as long as the results don't change. Remember to vote in the poll! It will only be up for a little while longer.

Dominion Articles / Re: Combo: Native Village-Poor House
« on: February 16, 2013, 11:10:08 pm »
Thanks for sharing! I think this is a neat idea, but not a dependable strategy. You did get some lucky draws at the end never having to set aside a poor house. Sooner or later, you are going to draw your poor house with the native village and then you can't do anything but pick up the cards from the NV mat. I think something with chapel, villages, poor houses, and like islands to set aside provinces could be viable. Again thanks for sharing!

I'm not necessarily what you would call an "experienced" player (In the 30s) but sure, I think this would be fun.

Not a problem! I would like to have all levels of players participating!

Looks like we are already getting several votes in favor of this project. Let's see if we get more feedback from other users. If you are an experienced player, please give your input as if I start this project, a lot if the discussion insight would be coming from you guys. Thank you to those of you who have already voted!

Dominion General Discussion / Kingdom Discussion - APPROVED
« on: February 16, 2013, 11:50:06 am »
Hi all,
I have seen a few posts recently regarding figuring out the best strategy for a certain kingdom. It appears as if those threads were very popular. I find it introduces people to new strategies and board analyzation techniques when players share their thoughts on certain kingdoms. After reading some threads about this on F.DS and having been in the lobby on isotropic during the DS Championship games when everyone was discussing the kingdoms which were to be used, I came up with the idea to post kingdoms along with my thoughts on them to create a place for open discussion on Dominion kingdoms. If enough people are interested, I will post kingdoms weekly along with basic questions such as "how would you open in this board" etc. which can be discussed in the thread. Along with the kingdom, I will share my thoughts on the board. If it is decided I will do this, I would be happy to accept messages with sample boards and post some of the kingdoms which have been sent to me. Is this something you are interested in? If you are, then vote above otherwise I won't know if you want me to start this project!  ;)
Let me know your thoughts on this idea! Thanks.

Dominion General Discussion / Multiplayer Transition
« on: February 16, 2013, 10:57:53 am »
As we all know, dominion is generally played with two players at a time, well at least on isotropic. Because of this, I have become familiar with many strategies and how they play out in two player games. When I play with my family IRL, however, we always play with at least 3 players, if not 4. I find myself selecting strategies that are strong in two player games but not necessarily strong in multiplayer games. I am foggy on when to go for green in multiplayer, and how elaborate I should make my engines. How does one change their playing style when playing multiplayer games? When analyzing the board before picking a strategy, what characteristics must a strategy have in order to make it a viable one? I am aware the amount of turns are usually shortened and the amount of resources available for your deck are also limited when playing with more players, and to an even greater extent when playing with four people. If anyone could "enlighten" me with the understanding of how to transition from playing with two to playing with three or four, the help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Oh, there's no problem with that.

Then on this note...anybody who feels they have a decent grasp on strategy want to help me test a kingdom? ;D

I would be happy to!

On the other hand, these are some matches I would definitely want to watch on YouTube! Too bad Iso doesn't have a spectator mode or something. :(

I will record our match unless there is a serious obstacle.

Do you have a YouTube channel on which you will post the videos?

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20130114-212952-ddeec1af.html

In this game against olneyce, I planned to go for a Cartographer/Wishing Well engine. I opened Bcrat/Wishing Well. The Bcrat was for a source of income so I could buy Wishing Wells instead of Silvers with $3. Well, my Bcrat opening and some bad shuffle luck prevented me from hitting Mountebank until T6 while he gets Mountebank T4. Well he gets his own Cartographer/Wishing Well engine up while I am way behind. I decided I had to switch game plans and went for Bcrat BM with Caravans I had previously purchased. Somehow I manage to catch up, and on his last turn, when we are tied with two piles gone, my opponent buys the second to last Estate, giving me a chance to end it with a tie. However, luckily I have $6 and a Curse in hand, so I buy a Farmland, trashing a curse, gaining the last Estate for an unexpected victory. Great game olneyce!

So, my opponent plays big money while I buy out all the cities and some swindlers and fortune tellers. Going into the last turn, I'm tailing 23-6 with just two provinces left. Then I hit province twice with my swindler, draining the pile without getting any myself. Then my next two swindlers both hit provinces again, trashing them. I have just enough money to buy out the 7 duchies for the win. My opponent wasn't pleased.

MrEevee plays a Swindler.
   ... getting +$2.
   ... (NovaRising reshuffles.)
... NovaRising turns up a Province and trashes it.
   ... replacing NovaRising's Province with a Province.
   MrEevee plays a Trader.
   ... trashing a Library.
   ... gaining 5 Silvers.
   MrEevee plays a Swindler.
   ... getting +$2.
... NovaRising turns up a Province and trashes it.
   ... replacing NovaRising's Province with a Province.
   MrEevee plays a Swindler.
   ... getting +$2.
... NovaRising turns up a Province and trashes it.
   ... No replacement is available.
   MrEevee plays a Swindler.

   MrEevee buys a Duchy.
   MrEevee buys a Duchy.
   MrEevee buys a Duchy.
   MrEevee buys a Duchy.
   MrEevee buys a Duchy.
   MrEevee buys a Duchy.

All Provinces are gone.
MrEevee wins!

I remember you showing me that game log. That was awesome!!

I'm just glad that my match in the Loser's bracket against you was before you got really good.  I think I might have won 1 game out of 7 against you since then.

Thanks Dude! How are the tournament games coming along?
I'm still around.  I have a match against Antonidas this week.  I might need you to teach me a thing or two before I go up against him ;)

Will do! Good luck in the tourney. See you around on iso. If you are ever up for some matches, PM me here!

i just want to know how i got stuck drawing you first round of the tournament, only for you to be level 40 today. the people organizing the tournament clearly had it out to get me.

I got seeded 199 so I had a tough time that tournament. How did your matches go after beating me?

Hey, I'm pretty sure I helped you gain some levels too.  Congrats on 40!

Yes you did! I will add you to the list. I just wrote down people I played against pretty frequently. Like I have played Rabid on many, many, occasions.
