Physician - Action - $6
+1 Action
Play any number of Treasures from your hand. You may spend any amount of $ to trash a card from your hand costing up to the amount spent. Then, draw until you have 5 cards in hand.

I feel like the card name requires some kind of self-trashing ability just to make a "Physician, heal thyself" joke, but that takes away from what I'm trying to do with the card.

Rialto - Landmark
At the start of the game, each player in turn order names a pile in the Supply (the choices must be different). When scoring, 3 VP per card in your deck from the pile named by the player to your right.

Rules Questions / Re: Tunnel + Set Aside
« on: May 08, 2020, 12:01:47 am »
Ah, I see it now. Is there an example of when this could happen?
Interestingly, I couldn't find an example that works on Tunnel - if it were an Action card, then Library would be one such case. Possession is another almost-ran - but it specifically says that you put the gained cards in your discard, but you don't discard them so Tunnel wouldn't trigger.

Rules Questions / Re: Considering Trader errata
« on: May 06, 2020, 08:59:14 pm »
It feels like a pretty clean erratum to me, especially since 95% of the time it looks like it will work essentially the same, 4% of the time it makes some of the weird stuff less weird, and 1% of the time might enable something a little weirder but it doesn't look like it will be in any particularly game-breaking way.

The thing is though, it uses the word "Reveal".  Is there any mechanism that would prevent the same 3 cards from being revealed each time?
The fact that the Black Market deck is assumed to have only 1 copy of each card in it, and while the first three cards are revealed, they're not in the Black Market deck any more and hence can't be drawn from it?

Given the very valid point about $2 Projects being too much an auto-buy in many cases, I've added a buy restriction to my entry.

EDIT: Add a buy restriction, to make it more of a decision.

What if Pearl Diver, but Project? What if also could just throw away junk?

Diving School
Project $2

At the start of your turn, look at the bottom card of your deck. You may place it on top of your deck or discard it.
---
You can't buy this if you have any cards in hand.

Coupon
$3 - Reaction - Endgame
When another player gains a card costing $5 or more, you may reveal this from your hand to exchange it for a cheaper card.
--
At the end of the game, you may reveal this from your deck to exchange it for an Estate.

In case it isn't clear, "it" in both cases refers to the Coupon itself - if your opponent buys a Province you can turn your Coupon in for a Duchy, or a Gold, or whatever you need; or if the game ends then you can squeeze an extra point in, as long as there are enough Estates to go around (you would do the exchanges in turn order, starting with the person whose turn ended the game).

I know that this causes some slowdown, which is its main drawback, which is why I made the trigger something that hopefully is unusual enough that it's easy to do a quick whip-round and check if anyone wants to use their Coupon when it happens.

Why did you use "it" instead of "this"? I thought this meant you would exchange the opponent's card.
It's a fair question. I feel like "you may reveal this ... to exchange this" sounds like bad (or at least awkward) English. How about "You may reveal and exchange this for ..."?

Crazy that there are actually 20 different ways. That's so many.
And yet there are fifty ways to leave your lover.

...

There's a few more I need to get out of my system, so let's go.

"How do I love Dominion? Let me count the Ways ... ok, there's twenty."

"Why do you keep Turtling that card every turn?" "Because it's the only Way!"

"Hey Wayne, Garth, Bill and Ted. What setup do we want?" "Way!" "No way, man!"

"I can't actually see all the card-shaped things at the other end of the table, but it's all right - I know the Way."

Samoyed • $3 • Action
+2 Cards
If this is the first Samoyed you've played this turn, +1 Card, +1 Action

It's a superlab. But only one. after that it is just a doggo. not even a blue doggo.
But it's still the best doggo (although that picture weirds me out a little).

I was approximately today years old when I discovered that dougz, of Isotropic fame, was also the author of the seminal computer science paper Chicken Chicken Chicken: Chicken Chicken. Also available as one of the best presentations I've ever seen here.

My guess at a Menagerie card:

Cat
Action - Attack - $3
+1 Card
+1 Action
You may slowly push each other player's deck off the table while looking them directly in the eyes.

I am just getting familiar with Nocturne and Renaissance.  Suffice to say Capitalism + Torturer is both deadly and a horrible thing to do to a friend.

But I did it.
Capitalism + Torturer ... shouldn't do anything special on its own? Because Torturer doesn't have the coin symbol, it doesn't become a Treasure. Although it does mean that some of the cards Torturer might draw won't be dead cards any more, if they do have that symbol.

Some of the mathematical arguments I've had on the internet feel like they would drag my Erdos number up if I had to count them.

I have an Erdős number!
Nice. I only have one published paper with a co-author who is also Erdős-less, so I'm still waiting for mine. There's a small chance I'll get something next year.

What field is it in?

Question - would something where players make a decision during set-up count?

no but presently the only way to obtain a project (or event) is to buy one, yea? how do you make a card that does that?
Possibly just "Place on of your cubes on a Project, following normal restrictions"?

Would it work better worded as:

"When you gain, play or trash this, if it is your Action phase: +2 Actions; otherwise, +1 Coffers"

Other Games / Re: Mario Maker

I think it's partially driven by Nintendo making sure there was a lot of pre-existing content before they launched, so that's provided a buffer against the hot garbage created as people's first levels. I suspect that the ratio will get a bit worse as more people pick up the game, then maybe better as the number of players drops off leaving mostly people who are actually interested in level design.

Ugh, why must precision errors follow me even here? I just had some fun dealing with the fact that the same equation, written in two different languages, operating only on integers, was getting results that differed by 1. I had to implement a clunky version of big integer arithmetic in a language not designed to handle it, to deal with the issue.
