Goko asked, and picked the date.

The main issue I had playing online personally is that the terminology is different. Your objective is to dominate 6 domains, you don't meld dogmas, you play them, you archive cards to the bottom of your played dogmas and other things. I would guess I just played with a new (or old) edition, it's the 2011 one.

Counting symbols is actually not too hard. You just ask how many people have and they tell you.

Those terminologies certainly aren't in any ruleset I've seen.  That's very strange.

I use the terms (achieve / meld / tuck / etc.) from the Asmadi Games edition, which is sold in North America.  The Iello Games edition is sold in Europe — I think they have translations for various languages but their English version (for the UK, etc.) uses different terms (dominate / play / archive / etc., though I could have some of those wrong).

Innovation General Discussion / Re: Color/Icon significance?

Castles are "authority", crowns (which are really coins with a crown on them) are "prosperity", leaves are "health", light bulbs are "concept", factories are "industry", and clocks are "efficiency".

There was a thread on this somewhere.

does this mean all the links in the forum to logs will break?

No, I'll leave the existing logs up.

Innovation General Discussion / new players

So, as you may have seen, the Dominion site is closing down a week from Friday.  The page will probably be replaced with a FAQ explaining why it's gone and directing players to Goko.

Should it also mention (and/or link to) innovation.isotropic.org?  At first I thought "yes, duh", but then I thought maybe having a sudden flood of non-Innovation players (or worse, people who think it's a site to play Dominion) would be bad.  Maybe a new lobby for people learning the game (plus people who are willing to teach / play newbies)?  I'm soliciting opinions or other ideas here.

Yeah, could dougz just like release those images? Would love to see those.

Well, I don't see the harm in that.

Puzzles and Challenges / Dark Ages playtest art
« on: March 01, 2013, 12:13:20 am »
Robz888 said he was curious to see the playtest art for Dark Ages (the ones that would be used on isotropic if it had Dark Ages), so I figured I'd make it a challenge.  Here they are in random order; see how many you can match with the cards.

If only it were that easy.  What happened is that I checked in the change to publish Dark Ages back in August, in hopes that I'd be able to add it, and then of course I wasn't.  The public server hasn't been updated since, like, July or so -- it's been restarted occasionally when I reboot my computer or something, but I haven't pushed new code to it until last night.  I fixed a little JS bug and pushed the tip-of-tree...

Nothing like checking email in the morning and having an "oh sh*t" moment.  Rollback coming soon to a server near you...

When Chris Cieslik sent me the original icon art files so I could use them on the site, I noticed that the icons had names other than just "castle", "clock", etc.  They aren't mentioned in the game rules or cards so maybe these names were dropped, but at least at some point they appear to have represented:  "authority", "prosperity", "health", "concept", "industry", and "efficiency".

How long ago does this leaderboard reflect? I've played a dozen games or so, but not within the last couple weeks.
It's built with all eligible games since Jan 1.  (2-player where both players are logged in.)  Like the Dominion one, if you don't play for a week you disappear from the board (though your stats are still known if you show up and play again.)

http://innovation.isotropic.org/leaderboard/

Only 2-player games are counted, as it doesn't seem well-defined how to rank the non-winners for more than 2 players.  It's using the same Trueskill parameters that I have for Dominion; not clear that those are right for Innovation.  Also, the ranks won't show up on the server itself yet (i.e., in the lobby).

Innovation General Discussion / Supremacy
« on: January 14, 2013, 01:59:44 pm »
My new favorite "whoa, oops" moment:  having Masonry on your board and melding The Wheel, Metalworking, and Mysticism (on the way to achieving Monument) causes you to achieve Supremacy!  In a real game I'm pretty sure I wouldn't even be thinking of getting a special achievement "naturally" on turn 3...

I wish I knew of a database of cards, though. I just remember those ones.

The FAQ on BGG has a list of cards for the base set:

This game crashed when I tried to use compass to steal statistics.

The bug was when the two cards exchanged by Compass were the same color.  (It would transfer one, then get confused because the other one wasn't on top any more.)

This and a couple others (Classification again, and Fission) should be fixed in the next restart (scheduled for about 3 hours from now, in the middle of the night for me).

Just restarted with some updates:

- fixed Sanitation, Corporations, Vaccination, Tools, Classification
- draw-and-score doesn't show card names to opponents
- popups with special achievement text
- fixed crash when a multi-card draw ends the game

If you like the game Innovation, I've just made public my new site for playing it: http://innovation.isotropic.org/.  The interface should look familiar.  :-)  Like the Dominion site, it's not a particularly good place to learn the game if you don't already know it, but hopefully there will be a critical mass of people who are already familiar with it and want to play it online.

So what is it?  I thought I had it, but by my count Cornucopia has 7 and the base set has 10, so that's not it...

It was not clear to me what the plural of the knights should be.  "Sirs Michael"?  "Sir Destries"?  I think they currently all have the default "add an -s" rule.

Dominion Isotropic / Re: Dark Ages on Iso a Possibility?

But what about at least leaving Iso online as is between August 22 and the actual launch of Goko?

I expect that iso will be able to stay up until a week after goko launches, whenever that is, which was basically their original plan.  I have not actually heard anything official from them (other than "August 22"), but I think that's because my contact (Trisha) is currently at GenCon and is busy with other things right now.

For what it's worth, I did ask about putting DA up on iso after the aborted launch and they (goko) said no.

There's a small window of time between a new expansion being spoiled and it being widely available when a site can get a big boost from being the only way to play the shiny new thing.  iso itself got a big boost from Prosperity, early in the site's existence (and that window was extra-long because of the shipping accident with the printed copies).  I imagine goko wanted the same thing from Dark Ages; there may yet be time for them to get some benefit.
