But let's go back to game 2. I know during the game I really felt it was bad luck - and really, yes, I underestimate the spy attack, I am sure. And I am sure there is some perception bias, I notice every little thing that goes wrong for me. I *still* think I got somewhat unlucky, but okay, maybe this is 40% luck

I can totally understand that you felt unlucky with my knight attacks. during the game i had the feeling myself, that i got very lucky in almost always hitting your good stuff. I expected fortress to show up at lest at some points, but it didn't.

thx Wandering Winder for your kind words. I enjoyed our games (well the end of game 2 not so much...)

game 1: I have been on the receiving end so many times by Scrying pool that i tend to go for it more often than i probably should. I think here it may be to slow. they started well, but then the deck fell apart. I couldn't get the +buy in fast enough and in the end the engine never took off. With expert play SP might be the better strategie, but it's very hard to play it correctly. I think i get to many non-action cards into the deck (like smuggled golds) to make it work.

game 2: this is the best game of the series. A very tense game. My 5/2 start put WW at the ropes early with hitting key cards early. Then he finds Sir Michael and turns the table. My deck gets eaten alive, but i have 2 plats as a safe heaven. And then this missclick happens. AARRGHH. I'm still pissed of by this I tried to calculate how to end on piles this turn, as i felt this would be my last turn with a working deck, but it was not to be.

Game 3) I thought he played poorly (well, not really poorly, but the second Embargo was definitely a misplay),

game 3: I still consider WW as the grandfather of Duchy/Duke play. His article on it is still THE source of information. So i wanted to lock him out ot this option with double embargoing it. Why do you consider the second embargo there a mistake? There wasn't really anything else i wanted to embargo more than duke.

Game 4) Yep, you just outplay him here. Spice Merchant just not a good purchase here, with the eventual Gardens pivot. I actually thought you got sub-optimal YW/Tunnel luck, and still did him in comfortably.

game 4: I got the Spice merchant to thin my deck a little bit, so that i can eventually connect YW/Tunnel easier, while getting full protection from the lighthouses. It didn't work out. i get my first connection turn 13, which is way to late. so it was a bad idea i guess.

side note: this awful missclick game2 put me on tilt for most of game 3+4. That's no excuse, WW played better overall. Lesson to learn: plan ahead before you play your cards, not while you are playing them.

in any case related to money transaction you should contact them directly at help@goko.com. This is usually the faster way to get help. If you mention the summersale, i'm sure they'll grant you the bonusses, even if you are late to the party.

Loppo 3-1 Bekse

Game 1 Loppo 0-1 Bekse
Game 2 Loppo 1-1 Bekse
Game 3 Loppo 2-1 Bekse
Game 4 Loppo 3-1 Bekse

Bekse is a new dutch player. He is most familar with base+Intrigue, so we played half the games this way, and the other half full sets random. So if you spot him give him a helping hand. Another Dutch champion on his way up.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: That Wacky Leaderboard
« on: August 08, 2013, 02:12:10 am »
usually i defend the goko leaderboard, but not today.
Main reason of this is, that my rating dropped from 5.800 to 4700 during a 3/6 win/loss series.

i know i didn't play that much this summer, so uncertainty kicks in, but i was shocked yesterday.

33
The goko ratings are way way too swingy and hugely depend on your latest results. Of course, the best players tend to have had good results in the recent past too, but, you know.

In all fairness, the goko ratings have been made so swingy to get rid of the cheaters that "quitted" their way up the leaderboard. They were less swingy before, and eventually they will revert this to normal soon.

If i look at the goko leaderboard, if find names in the top spot that eventually belong there, and all of the cheaters are gone. For me thats a good sign: swingy or not, the right peolpe are at the top.

quote from getsatisaction on this very topic:

You are right: the subtraction is too tough now. This is on purpose because we had a situation where some people were cheating their way up the leaderboard by quitting (before quits were penalized) and setting it tough means that you have to actively play -- and play at your rating level -- in order to maintain your rating. It's a little more like "king of the hill". Remember, it's happening to everybody, not just you, so it's fair. But now that the overrated quit-cheaters have had time to drop, it's getting time to revert these setting to be more moderate.

« on: July 25, 2013, 11:04:56 am »
i'm not sure i can activate enough players for a Team Austria.
I have informed the organizer of all Autrian boardgame tournaments, to find players, and will let you know if a team is building. So for the moment i'd give a 50% chance for that to happen.

Since most of the players i know in Austria play only 3-4player Dominion, we would be easy prey on the 2player tables.

Timewise, i have a rather tight schedule with family/work. Therefore i would gladly let someone else have the honour to be captain of our team.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: King's Court–Big Money combos?
« on: July 02, 2013, 05:45:02 am »
i've done some testing with KC / Scavenger last winter. This definitely is a thing if there is no engine available, and i've found this combo to be quite reliable.

You can set it up as fast as turn 7, when everything goes well. Usually you buy your first province turn 9 (avg. 9.25) and you get to 4 Provinces in 12.75 turns.

Once the Combo is set up, it breaks up in one form or the other in 20-25% of the games, and it takes you 1-3 turns to get back in line.

And every now and then <10% of the games you will fail to set up the combo at all. Attemting this on a 5/2 start seems to be a good recipe for desater as well.

Sample games:
the god draw
very fast
average game
breaking up and recover
breaking up and lose
failing

And yes playing this gets boring very fast.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: Yeahhhh, Goko leaderboard milestone
« on: June 25, 2013, 03:16:46 am »
Certainly, I think Iso was way too conservative here. I mean, 70+ games to hit number one, having beaten the top guy in every such game? Really, do you not think that after a 30-0 record against the top players, that you should probably be considered the best?
/rant

in iso it took you 31 games from 0 to #1 if you beat the top player every single time.

This is easy to simulate.  Starting with today's leaderboard, assuming no other games happen in the meantime and all games take place in the same day, it takes 31 games for a new player to get to #1, and 35 games to get to level 51 (by always winning a 2-player game against the top-ranked player that is not himself).

game 1: start level 0 (ranked #18056); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 2: start level 3 (ranked #10348); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 3: start level 6 (ranked #7268); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 4: start level 9 (ranked #5400); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 5: start level 12 (ranked #4125); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 6: start level 14 (ranked #3168); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 7: start level 17 (ranked #2437); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 8: start level 19 (ranked #1880); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 9: start level 21 (ranked #1434); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 10: start level 23 (ranked #1111); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 11: start level 24 (ranked #855); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 12: start level 26 (ranked #664); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 13: start level 28 (ranked #514); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 14: start level 29 (ranked #380); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 15: start level 31 (ranked #292); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 16: start level 32 (ranked #221); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 17: start level 33 (ranked #178); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 18: start level 35 (ranked #140); win against -Stef-
game 19: start level 36 (ranked #107); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 20: start level 37 (ranked #84); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 21: start level 38 (ranked #68); win against -Stef-
game 22: start level 39 (ranked #51); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 23: start level 40 (ranked #38); win against Marin
game 24: start level 41 (ranked #29); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 25: start level 42 (ranked #25); win against -Stef-
game 26: start level 43 (ranked #21); win against Marin
game 27: start level 44 (ranked #19); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 28: start level 45 (ranked #14); win against -Stef-
game 29: start level 46 (ranked #10); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 30: start level 47 (ranked #5); win against Marin
game 31: start level 47 (ranked #4); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 32: start level 48 (ranked #1); win against -Stef-
game 33: start level 49 (ranked #1); win against Marin
game 34: start level 50 (ranked #1); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
game 35: start level 50 (ranked #1); win against Obi Wan Bonogi
ranked #1, level 51

I don't know if this is the fastest way to do it.  (Like, is it ever better to win against a lower-ranked player, maybe because they have a smaller variance?)

31 games to get to #1 after tanking the top players ratings  ::)

Kingdom generator is working fine, log and VP are not.  Haven't looked at the other features yet.
same here. Is it possible to reactivate the button for the log in the user settings? This should take care of everything

Dominion: Guilds Previews / German Edition of guilds
« on: June 18, 2013, 03:49:35 am »
i just wanted a share of info i received this weekend. We had an IRL tournament this weekend, and Ferdinand the organizer who is linked into the whole game industry wrote an email to jay tummelson of RGG to see if there is any info about german guilds.

Surprisingly (given the fact that he was at the originsat that time) jay answered with 2 short mails. He confirmed that there definitely will be a german version. Unfortunately there was no name dropped, and no definte date. My personal guess would be during the "Spiel" in Essen late October.

Ferdinand also tries to convince Jay to support the continuation of World/Euro championships of Dominion. They have a meeting about this topic in August. Lets see what future brings.

I think Robz has the rankings spot on except Mountebank is usually better than Witch. I would put Cultist above Wharf and Governor above Hunting Party. With Soothsayer maybe the top 5 will look something like this.

1. Rebuild
2. Mountebank
3. Witch
4. Cultist
5. Soothsayer

lololol Rebuild isn't that good come on

hmm..., Rebuild is that good in a province/estate game. Add shelters and/or colonies and you have a different picture. The more i play with rebuild the more i think shelters should be autoincluded when rebuild is in the kingdom to eve things out.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: How's Goko these days?
« on: June 17, 2013, 03:16:28 am »
Unfortunately the leaderboard is still terrible.  An unlucky string of losses = say good-bye to your ranking, especially if it happens after taking a break from Dominion.

this very same unlucky strike of losses, especially after taking a break from Dominion would have caused the same drop in the rankings on iso. i personally feel the rating loss here is much less than on isotropic. The increase in uncetrainty was much bigger back in the isotropic days, just saying.

Friday 21st.

I don't think they release during Origins. This is the weekend where the physical cards get the center stage. When the cards hit the shelves in the store, then goko will release

That's just a guess. No actual information involved

same here, the only freezes i had in the last 4 months were from the watchtower bug, until i learned to wait a second.

Afaik all the dominion cards are printed by the same manufacturer.

I have german and english expansion sets mixed. You can't tell any differences from the backside, so it should work for nowegian/english also.

Try playing diplomacy with your friends if you think it's a problem in monopoly or settlers ;)

My one and only dipomacy expirience with family/friends ended with me beeing killed in 3 turns (playing Austria), and the other 6 rejoiced in their shared victory.
