opponent eventually resigned, friended me just to complain, then unfriended.

I don't know why so many people do this. If you're not going to wait for a response, what's the point? If you don't want a response, why can't you just complain to yourself?

The Piloted Sky Golem was 6/1 for reasons unrelated to the Ragnaros.

But if you used the Abusive Sargeant on a 6/1 PSG (which is what you said), the PSG would die before you could trade it with Ragnaros.  If he's immune/shielded, does the +2 attack still happen?  That's my confusion.

You're confusing Abusive Sergeant with Cruel Taskmaster.

And if it were Cruel Taskmaster, it gets the buff whether or not it takes the damage.

Apparently it's better than I thought. It can save mana next turn as well.

Im personally more interested in the Shaman card. It looks strong. Often it was overload that stops burst turns, Although With overload 2 its not great. It's only great is overload 3, so I think it will be tried with Earth Elementals.

I think if it's going to be useful, it would be with big tempo turns late game, like allowing you to play multiple overload cards in one turn and then use it as an innervate on the follow-up turn. Like Neptulon + Feral Spirit into Lava Shock + 8 mana worth of Murlocs. Just being a mid-game Backstab is probably not doing enough.

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Dominion Rebalanced?
« on: March 10, 2015, 01:10:16 pm »
But if the community thinks it's such a well-balanced game, wouldn't there be less consensus in for example the Qvist rankings concerning the cards, like year after year? And I'm not talking about that sort of faux balance which is supported by the argument "well if the card is so powerful so what, everyone has access to it!"

It's unrealistic to expect all card to be equally powerful. It's not a problem if some are more powerful than others because the game does not just consist of buying 1 card. Chapel is strong, but so what? It's not like you just buy Chapel and the game is over. After you trash your stuff, you have to build an engine, and have a bunch of decisions to make as to how to put that together. Even if the presence of Chapel removes the decision of what to buy on turn 1/2, it doesn't decrease the total amount of decisions you make over the course of the game. Other powerful cards share the same attribute. Mountebank/Witch are very strong, but the Curses prolong the game which gives you more time to make other decisions.

Apparently they fixed Alexstrasza vs Heorics by giving base armor instead of extra health.

I really like Hungry Dragon in a pinging class. Lots of 1 drops are 1 health.

Yeah but then it's just a 6 mana 5/6, which isn't great. You have to be able to ignore the 1 drop or kill it with a leftover Light's justice or something for it to be really powerful. Like turn 4 on an empty board it's fine, since the 1/1 is probably not going to be able to do anything unless your opponent has Blessing of Kings.

Well the cheap spells synergize with any form of card draw, not Jeeves in particular, so to me it makes more sense to run Acolyte or Azure Drake or Arcane Intellect or Loot than Jeeves.

Just had a really drawn our Jeeves Mage game where I finally drew my Antonidas with 10 mana and 2 Ice Lances. It ended 2 turns later, but the Antonidas beat down was too enjoyable.

I agree about the Antonidas fun, but you run him with Jeeves? It seems like an anti-synergy. With Jeeves, you want to dump the cheap spells to draw, and then you don't have them when you get Antonidas.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Library Tactics
« on: March 04, 2015, 07:13:53 pm »
I think the original question is a simple computation for a current deck state. It's about the probability that you draw the village and how much you stand to gain from it. But most of the time if you have Library and a village, you don't have many treasures, so there's little to gain from dead drawing.

Also related is when you're drawing with the Library, you have to choose which actions to keep. You don't want to overkeep terminals and fail to draw a village, but if you're not likely to draw the village, you might settle on a decent terminal.

The more interesting question is:
Well, that's another question: should the presence of Library push you toward an Action/Treasure blend?

I think the answer is "not really". If you're getting villages, you don't want treasures. They screw up draw-to-X. However, I do think Library-BM with extra actions is a thing. A couple years ago when isotropic was still a thing, I was writing a Library article that I never finished. Looking through the game logs I was going to use, my decks either have villages or treasure, but not really both.

65
All actions take their effect immediately, so the number of coins granted by Forager depends on the state of the trash at the time you play that Forager.

Correction: it depends on the state of the trash after Forager trashes a card from your hand.

Thanks. Yeah, I meant at the time you execute that part of the action card. "Play" refers to a very specific moment, not the entire time you're executing the card.

In response to a comment about matchmaking, Making Fun has said,

"Fresnel, one of the launch features of the 2.0 version will be a completely new multiplayer matching system where players "seek" opponents based on criteria rather than a physical table model. "

It's a start...

Depending on what the 'criteria' are, it's exactly what I want.

It's shoe size....

The criteria is that you're sitting at the same table...

^Boo. I like Warrior. It's one of my better classes. It's risky because if you get no weapons you don't have much since you lack a meaningful hero power, but if you get a few weapons it's not hard to at least get 7+ wins. The general class card quality is pretty high.

Now if it was Warlock...

Hearthstone / Re: The GvG arena meta shift
« on: February 26, 2015, 01:09:04 pm »
I didn't see this until recently, but about a week after I wrote this, ADWCTA made a post about GvG arena meta on reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveHS/comments/2rfrr6/gvg_arena_class_tier_list_part_1/

He doesn't really talk about 2-drops, and agrees with Dekryr that the meta is faster. I guess the big thing is that the stickier board makes it harder to clear and start over, so tempo is more important relative to card advantage than before.

Just played a (relatively) fun game Control Priest vs Fatigue Mage. Since I had Cabaled one of his Deathlords and he didn't Duplicate or Echo the other one, I was only into fatigue 1 card faster. My very last card was a Thoughtsteal, which I used to copy his last card -- an Echo! I was able to play it to copy a Cultist, Blademaster, and Alexstrazsa (he couldn't BGH it until the next turn since he had just drawn the BGH off his Coldlight last turn)! Even though he was able to Echo a BGH, Healbot, and Illuminator with Ice Block up and full health, since I knew he had no burn left, I was able to let my life get low, Alex up to 15 to buy 2 more turns, and hit him in the face for enough damage that his fatigue killed him through Ice Block!

Despite the 20 minutes of utter boredom leading up to that end game, I came away with quite a positive feeling after the match.

Hearthstone / Re: Constructed General Discussion
« on: February 24, 2015, 12:18:59 pm »
On his stream yesterday, Trump reported some results of observations of the decks in NA legend this past week. Apparently he turned on a bunch of other streams and noted down the decks faced by each of his fellow streamers. There were a total of 193 games, and the classes were as follows:
Code: [Select]
hunter mid 32 17%
druid 32 17%
warrior 24 13%
mage mech 23 12%
rogue 17 9%
paladin 16 8%
shaman mid 14 7%
priest 9 5%
hunter face 7 4%
mage freeze 7 4%
handlock 6 3%
warlock demon 6 3%
So anyone trying to crack the meta this week, I guess that's what you're looking at. More than half the decks have weapons, and more than a third secrets, so Ooze/Harrison and Kezan/Flare are a real consideration (Flare also hits the Shades in Druid/Rogue).

This is somewhat in agreement with https://tempostorm.com/articles/the-meta-snapshot-7-tempostorms-gvg-ladder-tier-list , but hyped appears to severely underrate its matchups with the top decks. It's way better than 50/50 vs Rogue and 15/85 vs Hunter... I would guess at least 75/25 and 55/45 unless there's something I really don't get about midrange Hunter... I think Rogue falls a lot as a result of people switching to Warrior and Hunter to beat it.

I think I underestimated just how helpful of a card Blade Flurry is, it's such a cheap way to clear board while pushing for damage.

With Oil, Blade Flurry is really good now, since you have plenty of enablers in the deck.

What surprised me is how good Violet Teacher is when you don't have to save your Preps for Auctioneer.

I think the Kolento list is the "standard" now. My friend made #1 NA with nearly that list. (Boom instead of second Sprint, and Healbot instead of second Farseer), but I think the 2x Sprint is better.

Game Reports / Re: Transmute > Cultist
« on: February 20, 2015, 07:42:44 pm »
I'm not sold on it. If your opponent doesn't contest the silk roads and goes for a big engine, I think they will probably win.

Given how close the Estates were to running out, too... I'm not so sure about that.

That's not to say that either of us necessarily played perfectly– I'm sure neither of us did, in fact– but I'm pretty skeptical that the hardcore engine approach would actually beat a Silk Road-focused slog here.

I'm almost certain contesting the silk roads is a bad idea. There is no way you are going to empty that pile ever. There probably had to be come duchy denying to take value from your transmutes, but that doesn't have to happen until much later since you're not really getting them that fast.

Other Games / Re: Heroes of the Storm

The prizing is indeed quite ridculous. I see no reason not to stick with Dota.

The game is much shorter than dota. Dota is primarily about farming, and HotS is much more objective-based, with different objectives depending on the map. They're not really that similar.

I have played some HotS, and the pricing doesn't bother me at all since I'm not playing competitive and thus don't care what heroes I'm allowed to play. I'm happy to play free rotation.
