Dominion General Discussion / Re: What card is worst for you?
« on: June 18, 2012, 09:33:39 pm »
Mint is the only card where my win rate given avail is <1. What surprises me is that my win rate with Adventurer is 1.48 even though I get it twice as often as the average player.

Game Reports / Highest mistake/turn rate in any game I've ever played

I'm winning the Ambassador war until I Embargo Lab, which is the one card I really need to keep on winning the war. Then I proceed to make some very questionable Farmland purchases which end up destroying my economy. I get bailed out by hitting Farmland+$6 twice.

Meanwhile, my opponent buys Embargoed Labs and Embargoed Cities, and in his rush for Level 3 Cities he doesn't pay attention to the piles, allowing me to win on a three-pile ending.

Game Reports / Re: I lost to Mint/Moat

The problem with University/Embassy and Inn/Embassy is that even though it's good at cycling through your deck, at the end of the day you still have a 5-card hand, which can probably buy a single Province and maybe a Silver. Not where you want to be after durdling the first 10 turns with University and handing Silvers to your opponent. Worker's Village helps, but you have to consider the opportunity cost of buying/gaining Worker's Village instead of Embassy or Gold.

Also, the 2/5P/2 split with Remake in the $2 hand that had no Estates was extremely unlucky.

Help! / Re: Watchtower, Fishing Village
« on: June 16, 2012, 02:30:16 am »
You definitely went overboard on the Watchtowers. You were frequently drawing 2 or even 1 from them, and drawing 1 means that it might as well not be there. Your opponent only had one Watchtower, but it did lots of work thanks to Inns. If you adopt a strategy similar to HiveMind's suggestion/your opponent's strategy, you would likely win because your opponent kept on hitting $9 and $10.

I'm wary of Ghost Ship because of how much Watchtower would stop it, especially with Fishing Village + Inn out.

Then again, Ghost Ship + Rabble sounds incredibly mean...

Ghost Ship + Rabble is a double-edged sword. You might just end up discarding two of their Coppers, especially if they have an Inn or Watchtower in hand (since they have nothing to lose by putting two Coppers on top). Also, I initially parsed your name as Tit-and-rake.

Game Reports / Double Embargo all the way across the sky

My opponent opens Trading Post with $5, and I look down at $3, so I figure my best chance is to make a fat deck and Embargo the Provinces multiple times so that I can win by attrition and/or my opponent being thrust into an unfamiliar situation. Luckily this manages to work out, although on Turn 9 I think I should Embargo the Estates and buy a Province.

Game Reports / Re: Why Tournament should be hated...maybe

Just noticed that you could have ended the game on Turn 15 by winning a Princess and buying the last two Tournaments, preventing your opponent from resigning.

Maybe it's because his Upgrades kept on missing his Curses, although that's partly his fault because there were several instances where he could have triggered the +2 Cards of Shanty Town but played his cards in the wrong order. Your best bet is to nod, smile, and move on.

Also, you got your Provinces right before reshuffling, while your opponent got his at the beginning of the shuffle. Still really lucky with only one Tournament to his seven.

Although it's hard to feel too guilty when you would've won either way.

Game Reports / How do I FG?
« on: June 13, 2012, 04:12:58 am »
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/12/game-20120612-154753-4345ae2e.html

So I'm relatively new to playing Fool's Gold strategies, and it kinda shows in this game. Also, I'm not sure that Mine/FG is the best opening here (Tournament/Pawn into mass Conspirators/Grand Markets?), but I went for it because I wanted the experience/was unsure of the power level. I admit that some of my midgame buys might have been done out of unfamiliarity with the strategy and/or panic. Any comments or suggestions?

I just noticed that my opponent could have won by Expanding the Province on Turn 18. Also, opening Lookout/Tournament and buying Gold on Turn 4 is just being a lucksack. Then again, so is winning the first prize on my part.  :P

Council Room Feedback / No PrizeFighter?

Hi, new member/frequent lurker here. In this game I got all five prizes from Tournament but didn't get the PrizeFighter achievement. Maybe this has something to do with the fact that I bought Tournament from the Black Market?

Edit: On second thought, I guess it's not much of a fight if the opponent doesn't have their own Tournament.  :P
