For casual players it probably isn't a problem, unless one of them reads online about how to use Rebuild. I would rather that not be the case, but well at least there are 34 other kingdom cards in Dark Ages.

Too bad, I had a distant hope there was something people hadn't found yet.

Sadly, the release date of Galaxy Trucker has been delayed to next year. They sure aren't rushing things, which is probably not a bad thing.

I just received an email from Goko titled "End of Summer Sale".

Why didn't they ever tell me about the beginning?

Turns out it is in fact an End-of-Summer Sale. Anyone else got confused?

It has been a while, but now that I have holidays, I think it's time for the next games of Terra Mystica.

I could have gotten 5 provinces on turn 11, but i miscalculated, thinking 36 would give me 6 of them.

We both didn't play this very good I think, but there's some interesting stuff in it. Exchanging an estate for 2 coppers is pretty good in a slog, and so is Masterpiece.

Guilds is the 8th Dominion expansion. Man. That's a bunch of expansions. People always ask about a 9th expansion, and I always say, well who knows, but there are good reasons for stopping. You can go read them in some other thread, I am busy previewing a card here, I will get to it any second now. Guilds itself only exists because I needed a small expansion to go in-between Hinterlands and Dark Ages. Base Cards ended up showing up there instead, but I'd already made Guilds, so why not release it.

Guilds has two main mechanics, as you can see in the terse sentences that accompany the flavor paragraph. One of them is coin tokens. And here today is a card that uses them.

The coin tokens are those metal things in Seaside and Prosperity. Guilds has cards that give you some, and then they're yours, they don't belong to some Pirates or anything. The significance of a coin token is, in your buy phase, before buying cards, you can cash in any number of coin tokens for +$1 each. That's it, that's all there is to know. They're money you can spend later. The turn you play Baker, you get a coin token; you can cash it in that turn, but you can also hold onto it.

Guilds is the most skill-based expansion, and coin tokens are a big part of that. There you are with $5 some turn; you could buy a card for $5, or maybe a cheaper one. There are a certain number of options. Coin tokens increase your options; with just one coin token, you can now consider cashing it in and getting a card for $6 instead.

Baker has another special twist, which is, it gives players a coin token at the start of the game. You only get one coin token then, not one per Baker in the pile, why is anyone even asking that. You get the coin token even though no-one has a Baker yet and possibly no-one will end up buying one. It's a free sample.

That starting coin token drastically shakes up the opening two turns. You can get a $3 and a $5 no matter what your starting draw is. If you got $2/$5, you also have the option of $2/$6; if you got $3/$4, you have the option of $4/$4. You can also save that coin token for later and live with your draw.

That's the preview, I'm here all week.

I played a game against Stef earlier with a board I found really interesting

Board: Courtyard, Baron, Throne Room, Wandering Minstrel, Graverobber, Horn of Plenty, Hunting Party, Knights, Minion, Treasury

Nearly all of the cards were crucial for how the game unfolded.

Stef opened Courtyard / Minion as starting player, while I went for Silver / Baron.
We then both invested heavily in Hunting Parties, mixing in some Throne Rooms.
I picked up a Horn of Plenty and a Courtyard  on Turn 7, which I used to get two Knights and another Hp on turn 8, while Stef also got a HoP and a Baron.
However, one of my knights managed to take out Stef's HoP. I picked up some more HoPs and managed to get 4 provinces on turn 14.
Stef tried to get some more knights, but after I got another province on turn 16, he resigned.

I think I got quite lucky with my Knight hits, but I'm also quite convinced that the plays from both of us were far from optimal.
I'd be interested to hear what you think about this board and how you'd play it.

really missing the good old days of dominion online now more then ever.
You know you can play on Goko too?

Yeah, I know. And when I read about the tournament, I really want to. Maybe I should have joined this one, maybe I will join the next.
Apart from that, no matchmaking translates to 'unplayable'. I like playing against strong opponents, and they just don't care about that.
On iso I usually had to wait around 10 minutes for a match (+/- 10 levels). On Goko, those 10 minutes would be hours and the 'waiting' would be 'clicking from one room to the next'.
Where's the fun in that?

I think that has to do less with the lack of a matchmaking system, but rather with the lack of such players on Goko. I would offer to play some games with you, but it would be quite a stretch to fit me into the "very good" category

I thought about the scoring system with the potential 6th game a bit and I don't like it.
I think it advantages the second player of the first game. Assume that all games except one are won by their first player. If it was the first player who lost one of "his games", he loses the match. If the second player lost one of "his" games, the match is a tie. So basically the second player is allowed on slip, while the first isn't.
I think a better solution would be to always play an even number of games (6).

Also, I think it would be better to alternate starting player regardless of who won the previous game. That what increase the value of taking a game your opponent started, by not allowing him to start the next gameif you do.

(Obviously I think the rules for the current season shouldn't be changed, this is meant for future tournaments I'm hoping for.

I designed the fake listing in there my self, and wanted to share some thoughts on them.

I had the idea for a fake listing for a while, but ended up just creating it in about 2 hours on March 31st. if I'd had more time, I'd probably have noticed that Guild Master and Turnpike +2$ are nearly strictly worse than Rabble and Duchy. those were cards I just threw in in the end because I needed an attack and a victory card. In fact, I had  Guild master looking at 5 cards at first, but thought that would be way too strong. I think I overestimated the possibility of clogging the top of the deck with terminals. Also I'd probably thought of a really cool card, because my set doesn't really have a highlight.
I'm not really sold on Gypsys camp being too weak. for sure, it isn't a power 3, but I don't think it would be the worst 3 ever, since there are some really crappy 3s.

I know lots of people believe that paying effects will be only on buy. When I designed this, i deliberately did it differently. I think on-buy-effects only would be to oring and we already have them in Hinterlands. I hope the real thing will be closer to my idea.

I originally planned to post this on reddit first, because all leaks seem to appear there first, but somehow I'm to stupid to make that site show my posts.

General Discussion / Lost DNS Server - Anyone can help?

Somehow my PC can't communicate with it's DNS server anymore. This site's IP seems to be cached and it's the only I cajn access without finding out the IP first.  Does anyone know whre I can change my DNS server settings (I'm using Windows XP)?
