Did I make it?
I think I did but it's close.
Hopefully (for me) there won't be too many "Wild Card" entrants!

Edit: Maybe I can jump 6 levels fast enough to be a "Highly Ranked Player"

Correct! Curse is the honorable mention, and spoils I forgot to put on the list. I don't know dark ages very well yet.

That's not what I had in mind, but it's a good response.
My honorable mention is very rarely bought.

Forum Games / Re: No-Shuffle Dominion

Good point, Dsell; I put no attacks in the kingdom in the interest of game speed.
However, as long as the attack does not require a decision by the person playing it, attacks should be fine.
The obvious choices are deck-inspection and discard (and maybe a trashing attack).
The updated kingdom will replace Wharf with Rabble and Cellar with Militia.

Forum Games / No-Shuffle Dominion
« on: November 20, 2012, 04:48:42 pm »
Hi! I've never posted in this forum, but would be interested in moderating a game of no-shuffle dominion.

It would play almost exactly like dominion, but instead of shuffling your deck once you reach the end, you can rearrange it however you please.

It would work as follows:
—All players would first PM me the starting arrangement of their deck (7 coppers and 3 Estates in any order)
—I would randomly determine who would go first.
—The starting player would post their turn, for example:
I play 5 coppers.
I buy a counterfeit.
—Whenever you reshuffle, PM me your deck arrangement so that I can make sure your turns are legal.
—If an illegal play is made, the game will be backtracked to the start of that turn.
—At the end of each round (a round consists of one turn by each player), I will post everything that the iso info page does, except for the deck and discard piles.
—No point counter will be posted; however, counting the points should not be that difficult if you really want to know.

If you want to join, mention it in this thread. I will take up to three players.

The kingdom will be: Platinum, Colony, Militia, Golem, Menagerie, Procession, Inn, Mining Village, Rabble, Quarry, Tactician, Counterfeit.

Additional information for turn logs:

Try to match the iso logs as much as possible.
When discarding cards, you must state which cards are discarded, unless it is the clean-up phase.
Each action card and special treasure card gets a new line, and everything it does gets indented by an ellipsis and a space.

Example:
I play a procession
... playing a cellar
... ... discarding 2 estates
... ... drawing 2 cards
... playing the cellar again
... ... discarding a copper
... ... drawing a card
... trashing the cellar
... gaining a menagerie

Feel free to add suggestions!

No, although I was really surprised when that card didn't fit the criteria.

Interestingly, Fortress+bishop is the only combo I know of that doesn't require you to buy/gain cards to gain a large number of points. Which means you could conceivably get into get into a situation where nether player wants to buy any other cards to disrupt their combo, but the score is close... sort of a chess-draw.

If this occurs, the leading player can buy the remaining fortresses, then another draw card, preferably something like spy, and then cross their fingers and pile the bishops.
However, this is difficult to pull off, especially if fortress is the only village, and harder if it's the only cantrip.
It's also a bit risky, and one might want to just call it a draw.

If there are cards like caravan, market, or lab on the board, this situation can still proceed toward the endgame.

Although everything I just said may be totally incorrect, I think it would be very rare that fortress/bishop would leading to an unending game.

I just realized My solution ignores the ruins that I would have, but even with the ruins it still works; you just need a little more shuffle luck.

Oops...
So, I guess every solution posted so far except for jomini's first is invalid?

Also, I now understand jomini's first solution.

Edit: Actually no, it specifies one action, not one action card.

I believe playing minion would just have them discard their hand (which does not yet contain nomad camps) and draw four nomad camps.

Duchess
Embargo
Fool's Gold
Golem
Madman
Native Village
Pirate Ship
Rats
Trade Route
Treasure Map

Unfortunately, I don't think starting with university is legal. Also, how does graverobber get you infinite cash?

$87, possibly with errors, but if not, this could easily be expanded upon and improved.

Village-->Smithy

Hand: Ironworks, Procession, Procession, Procession, Bridge, Ironworks, Council Room

Ironworks, gaining Procession.
Procession1, playing procession2, playing procession3, playing bridge, trashing bridge, gaining graverobber,
.....................................................................................playing Ironworks, gaining 2 processions, trashing Ironworks, gaining Graverobber.
....................................................................trashing procession3, gaining Council Room.
....................................................................Playing Council room, drawing Procession, Procession, Procession, Graverobber, Graverobber, Councilroom
....................................................................Trashing Council room, gaining a Border village, gaining a council room.
...................................................Trashing procession2, gaining a graverobber.

Current hand: Procession, Procession, Procession, Graverobber, Graverobber, Councilroom
Procession1, playing procession2, playing procession3, playing graverobber, gaining 2 King's courts, trashing graverobber, gaining border village, gaining deathcart.
.....................................................................................playing graverobber, gaining 2 KC's, trashing graverobber, gaining border village and death cart.
....................................................................trashing procession3, gaining graverobber.
....................................................................playing council room, drawing 4 KCs, 3 border villages, and graverobber, trashing CR, gaining BV and death cart.
...................................................trashing procession2, gaining graverobber.

Current hand: KC, KC, KC, KC, BV, BV, BV,  graverobber.
BV, BV, BV, drawing Council room, Death cart, death cart.
KC, playing KC, playing KC, playing KC, playing graverobber, gaining 3 death carts.
...................................................playing Council room, drawing BV, 4 Death carts, graverobber.
...................................................play 5 KC'd death carts for $75.
Graverobber gaining death cart.
Border village, draw death cart.
Play 2 death carts. ($10)

85 from death carts plus 2 from bridge=$87

I'm positive that this could be expanded upon to reach at least $120.
Edit: probably more like $107.

Help! / Re: OK, *this* time it's got to just be bad luck.
« on: November 15, 2012, 09:20:02 pm »
Yeah, although both our strategies needed some work, this was bad luck on your side. Or actually, good luck on my side.
I didn't really know what to do, and was just fiddling around, and I had a lucky turn.
I think that worker's village/trade route, is not the proper opening, however (useless village).
And I wonder what would have happened if someone had tried something with ghost ship.

I'm confused about why the bots need stacked starting decks to be competitive; how hard would it be to make an individual bot for each level?
Since the bots would always play the same kingdom, it would be easy to make a competitive strategy for them without making them cheat.

So, the full solution is
Answers: Smithy, Scout, and Minion, which draw you three cards from the top of your deck.
Honorable Mentions: Beggar, Counting House, and Native Village, which put three cards into your hand from some other location.

Is this correct?

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Council Room/Ghost ship combo card
« on: June 15, 2012, 05:45:25 pm »
I really don't like this card.

But that's mainly because I don't like ghost ship.
However, a major complaint I have is that it is too similar to ghost ship: It's like ghost ship, with +1 Card +1 Buy.
The fact that your opponents draw a card doesn't really matter; it's like half of a secret chamber reaction.
I mean, do you really want draw a card just to put it back on your deck?
Margrave is significantly different that militia because it has majorly different vanilla bonuses and also, that card that you drew can be discarded.

In short, drawing a single card beforehand doesn't significantly weaken a ghost ship attack.

However, if you're determined to make this card a reality, I would price it at 7.
