Dominion General Discussion / Re: Allies Preview 4: Recursion
« on: March 03, 2022, 03:27:15 am »
For example, I play Lich on my turn. At the end of my turn, I discard my cards and draw 5 cards, then my opponent plays a turn. After their turn, do I discard my 5 cards and draw a new hand, then they play, or does play completely bypass me?

discarding your hand & drawing a new one is part of your turn, so if you skip the turn, you also skip that.

I'm assuming that with dual-type cards, you can use a card for either of its types? E.g., if one of the revealed cards is a Mill, I assume you could put it into your hand as either an Action card (and put another Victory card into your hand) or as a Victory card (and put another Action card into your hand)? And if you revealed two Mills, you could put one in your hand as an Action card and the other as a Victory card?

Yes, correct. It gets simpler in your mind if you do it one by one instead of all at once. The first thing you do is put an Action in hand. Any Action Card will do, so a Mill or a Crown is just as valid as a Village. Then a Treasure, and finally a Victory card.

When you try to load https://dominion.games in chrome, it now results in the following warning:

Your connection is not private

NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID

I'm sorry, I'll try to get this fixed asap.
It is a different, although very similar, problem to the one I had 5 days ago.
(That was the ssl certificate on the servers running out, this is the ssl certificate on the website)

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: Very Poor Sportsmanship
« on: October 01, 2019, 05:30:03 am »
I am sorry to hear that. It is the opposite of my own personal experience, but I know it does happen.
There actually is some moderation, I do ban accounts. I almost never talk about it though when I ban.
I want to give these people as little attention as I can.

It's certainly possible I will invest more time in creating moderation tools. It's something I've been wanting for a long time. But I am not very eager to make any concrete promises about this.

I am genuinely surprised you think the sportmanship on dominion.games is lower then average on the internet.

One suggestion could be to join the league, or the dominion discord to find opponents. Almost everyone in those communities is nice.

My strategy is to just don't buy it.

I haven't made a list, but Cathedral would have been an easy #1 for me.

Cargo Ship is a card that had me worried when I first read it for being too good. I now know I was wrong - I expect it to rise a little bit but not much.

This post was full of Seprix' opinion and while I am happy to disagree in silence with most of it here I feel an urge to respond:
If Stef decided tomorrow that Black Market would only have 20 cards, Black Market drops very hard.
First of all, I don't make decisions - or at least I try not to. I make suggestions to Donald and he decides what the game is. In this particular case it even involved a seriously long discussion with the entire community.
Secondly, you assume people voted about the online card instead of the real card. Could be right, could be wrong.
Third, the card says you should take all cards not in the kingdom, and then Donald says you should do whatever you like best or what is practical. All cards not in the kingdom is 250+; 60 is just a reasonable approximation of that (I don't think 60 or 250 would matter for BMs strength) while at 20 it was significantly weaker then intended.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Dominion Coaching Series
« on: January 18, 2019, 07:17:41 am »
Hey here's a game I lost a couple of months ago that I'd be happy to get some feedback on! Feel free to do a coaching vid on it!

I don't really make videos but I do enjoy watching them and here are some comments.

Turn 1&2: I like your opening buys more then his, by a lot.
Turn 3: I like your reasoning about the Defiled Shrine points by your opponent.
Turn 4: you claim your peasant is helped by his Enchantress, but it really isn't. Without the Enchantress you'd have the Soldier in your draw pile right away, and now you're wasting a turn. It's not something you can really fix though; not playing the magpie on turn 3 to prevent this feels bad and could also backfire horribly.
Turn 5: getting magpie over minion -> Minions is what its all about here. It's the only card that can really shine before the +actions of Disciple and/or Teacher start working. Also taking a magpie "because you want to win the split" is not a good reason.
Turn 6: You say you want a Develop because trashing estates and gaining $3 cards is good. True, but here these $3 cards are kind of bad, given the lack of +actions. It's relatively rare, but here I'd certainly take Trade Route over Develop. Given how important Minions are here Silver is a serious consideration too though. At this point your deck can't really sustain another terminal.
Turn 7: another terminal - not good. Either get Silver or nothing.
opponents turn 8 - you discard copper over estate. I wouldn't, but it's close - fine with me.
Turn 8: You buy yet another terminal. Starting to get really bad.
Turn 9: And another terminal, horrible.
Turn 10, start of turn: given that you have way too many terminals, you should certainly use the opponents Enchantress to play the terminal in your hand.
Turn 10, later that turn: Your last magpie play means you'll have to go through a shuffle without any of your disciples. That play sets you back ~1.5 turns.
Turn 10: I do like you're buying nothing
Turn 11: close call between double develop and double enchantress, both fine with me
opponents turn 12: you discard magpie over estate. It looks like a conscious decision but I don't get it.
opponent on turn 13: He should put +actions on minion, not +coins.

Your post game analysis: this wasn't so much about the attacks, as it was about the balance between +actions and terminals. You end with a relatively small deck with 1 card that can make +actions and 8 that need it. Getting so many terminals caused you to almost never hit the big coins needed for Minion / double Minion.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Renaissance online release
« on: November 03, 2018, 07:54:43 am »
We'll release renaissance online on Monday, 15:00 UTC.

The rule-book will also go up on Monday.
It no longer depends on the physical release, although that is still expected to be Monday as well.

Dominion League / Re: Season 30 - Bigger than the Championship
« on: October 16, 2018, 06:28:13 am »
Really happy to see the league do so well.

I think it's the best (most fun, most fair) format for the players. The big knockout is more fun for the spectators. It's great that they can coexist.

Dominion: Renaissance Previews / Re: CSM and Ducat
« on: October 02, 2018, 05:53:24 am »
I see Watchtower is on the list, but only as a draw-to-X.
It seems to merit a special entry though, allowing you to thin coppers when you trash the Ducat you buy/gain.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: Previews
« on: September 25, 2018, 06:55:32 pm »
Is matching speed prioritized over previews? Because I tried to play a game with previews and it said no one else was searching for previews, then matched me to a game without them.

In Mondays release it was possible to search both for preview games and rated/practice games at the same time. In those cases it would try to match you with whatever was available.
This functionality proved more confusing then helpful, so I disabled it in Tuesdays release. If you select previews now, it should automatically deselect rated and practice.

If you really want you can still play a rated previews game by creating your own table.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: Nothing there?
« on: September 24, 2018, 03:36:26 am »
I just played a game to see if the Renaissance previews would be in it (they weren't). After the game ended, I reloaded Dominion.games and got nothing but a blank page with the castle icon on it.

Could this be something on your end or caching problems? The previews are in fact up and I am spectating quite some games with it.

Possibly holding down ctrl while clicking the 'reload' button on your browser fixes it.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Previews

The plan is to start the Renaissance previews ~10 hours after this post.

You can already read about some new features that will come along with it in this post by Ingix.

... and you're saying that there's this railway station that is somehow determining all of that...

You have to appreciate the irony of Awaclus successfully derailing his own threat by posting about a railway station.

Every once in a while I still get annoyed that Dominion got a worse online client than before for double the prize. But what can you do.

Whether you like this client more or less then the MF implementation is up to you.
While I am probably biased, I can tell you I enjoy playing on it a lot more.

But your prize comparison really doesn't make sense. It's a bit too complicated to linearly compare the two, but if you really want to the best approximation is that this implementation costs about half of what they charged, not double.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: eight Coppers?
« on: June 10, 2018, 04:02:13 pm »
Thanks for reporting this one, sure is a weird one.
Your client instructed the server to trash the same copper twice. Two things:
1) This shouldn't be possible assuming you use our client.
2) The server should not consider this a valid response.

re 2: is actually a serious issue. The server should check that all the answers from the client are different but apparently it doesn't on list-questions.
It should reject this answer like it rejects any other invalid answer from the client. Bonfire has the optional trash anyway, but this probably means you could currently cheat by writing your own client and trashing only 1 card to Trading Post.

re 1: I assume you didn't hack the client, and it's actually our client that generated this answer. It shouldn't, but there wouldn't be a real issue if the server would just reject it.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Re: Blacklisting Due To Undo
« on: March 23, 2018, 05:11:32 am »
Being blacklisted a lot isn't a reason to get banned, it's a reason to get investigated.
So please continue & feel free to blacklist people for whatever reason you don't want to play against them.

20
You are free to have your own view on things. I can understand they feel that way to you.

From my point of view, you had a deal with another company and that deal ended.
(even though they promised you it would not)
That's the reason you don't have expansions on dominion online right now.
You had them in 2017 because I was nice.

kind regards,
Stef

When I wrote "better card animations" most readers interpreted it as "more animations" or even "more MF-like animations".
And then they said please no.

All these people not wanting better animations are going to be the death of this game.

Players who aren't experts should be able to see what's happening without referencing the log constantly. Right now that's not the case.

While I agree with most of your ideas here, I don't quite understand the pessimism.
"The lack of good animations has been a serious hurdle for inexperienced players" - yes.
"The game could have grown significantly more if we had great animations" - again yes.
"The game will die without them" - no.

I agree wholeheartedly with both of you. Are the animations too fast? Yes! Are the animations too slow? Yes! How can both be true at the same time? I'm collecting my thoughts to make a detailed case on how they would best work, but as a preview the current 1 by 1 movement of every single card seems ineffective and inefficient.

I think these two things are important to get better animations:

1. Animate cardmoves in batches, which means a bunch of cards can move from zone A to zone B simultaneously.
   - add the next card to animate to the current batch if
      a) it wasn't moved already in this batch.
      b) the target zone isn't used as a source zone in this batch.
      c) the source zone isn't used as a target zone in this batch.
   - otherwise, start a new batch

2. Animate batches of cardmoves that alter the ownership of a card in some special way.

If I would compare it to the current situation, in general it would slow down. Lots of movements currently aren't animated at all.
Some things would go faster (like fortune teller flipping your entire deck)

Maybe to thwart someone who's about to Possess you?
I thought Possession is banned online now?

No possession isn't banned online, but it is banned on tables created by the automatcher.
