I always use veto mode.

It used to be for Possession. Today it is for Scrying Pool.

And to go further off-topic; I like to veto out the actions. Folks who will tear you a new one in an engine game tend to really flounder with a lack of actions.

I've always heard the street selling flower folks called "Flower Vendors". There's a classic painting by Diego Rivera titled as such.

Dominion Articles / Re: How's about some Multiplayer

I can say that when I started playing on Isotropic I had only ever played IRL with 3-4 players so I began on iso 3-4p.

Occasionally I would play 2p and get creamed every time despite being reasonably good in 3-4p. I finally switched to pure 2p until i was a decent contender at it and going back to 3-4p found I was weaker than before.

The playstyles, timing and card strengths are totally different.

Rules Questions / Re: Discard Pile

IRL I only allow cards that were in play to be on top of my discard pile.

That can't be right. What if you have nothing in your discard pile and you play a Warehouse?

IRL I only allow cards that were in play to be on top of my discard pile.

Thus, I feel the absence of this "feature" is apropos for the same reason WW provided.

Rules Questions / Re: Noble Brigand vs Lighthouse

On that note, Noble Brigand doesn't attack on gain, but on buy.

Yeah, I learned that lesson the hard way quite some time ago.

When I first started playing on Isotropic I realized how horribly wrong I had been playing IRL.

Occasionally something like this comes along to remind me my immediate reading comprehension must be lower than the tests indicated.

In my opinion it is poor form. sometimes people are not aware they can end it by buying out a pile. Other times they are actively avoiding the last province or the last pile while accumulating VP with a substantial lead and a superior deck.

I'm certain I have overdone it a few times when I was truly uncertain of the score otherwise I don't see the point in continuing to play it out when I know I've won. Winning is the goal after all.

Rules Questions / Noble Brigand vs Lighthouse

Apologies if this topic has already been covered...

See this gamelog: http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120606-163522-1e6ebf3b.html

On 21 Weeks' Turn 9 he begins the turn by playing a Lighthouse.

On my Turn 10 I buy a Noble Brigand which manages to trash and collect 21 Weeks' Gold. Now, I thought this was interesting but then...

On my Outpost Turn 10 I play the same NB from the reshuffle and 21 Weeks' Lighthouse makes him immune to the same attack.

Should Lighthouse protect on NB gain and play?

Other Games / Panic Station
« on: June 06, 2012, 12:36:17 pm »
Has anyone played Panic Station and, if so, what was your impression?

I ran across this game the day it released but only had time to read the rules and examine the pieces before I had to go.

It appeared to have high potential like Pandemic meets Paranoia. I don't have much time to play games and when I do find the time I'm pretty much only going to play engaging and relatively easy to learn games (like Dominion). As such, I'm interested to know if this game is in line with those criteria.

And then there's the fact that Theif and Noble Brigand both already gain cards from the Trash.

According to the card text this is technically true although I perceive it as being intercepted on the way to the trash.

I have a distaste for rules evolutions that challenges my established perceptions and that the cards found in the trash are inaccessible qualifies as an established perception. My feeble mind prefers for rules evolutions to enhance the existing ruleset not overturn them.

I'd be unpleasantly surprised if a card allows for gaining cards from the trash pile.

I am ok with something akin to a phil stone that counts the trash pile or the number of different types of cards in the trash pile but I like the explicit what goes in the trash stays in the trash rule.

Game Reports / Re: Dear My Opponent: I am Sorry
« on: May 23, 2012, 09:51:40 am »
On a board comprised of villages, universities and torturers it's basically a game of roulette with our old friend shuffler.
I am sorry to tell you, Niuz, shuffler owed me one that game.

Still, I must say some decisions are better than others. (Like say, discarding curses instead of accumulating them until the pile runs out)

Crushed in 14 turns into a negative score:
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201205/23/game-20120523-064553-40386b4a.html

This made up for a streak of either out-shuffled close games or outright embarrassments.
