Dominion General Discussion / Re: Hilarious Dominion "review" at BGG
« on: July 01, 2012, 11:00:41 am »
If I remember correctly, this is done by one of the people who was a key member in the "What constitutes shuffling?" thread.
Can you provide a link to the "What constitutes shuffling" threat? I'd like to read it.

I believe this is the thread being referred to. http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/816127/is-there-any-rules-problem-with-this-shady-tactic/page/1

Cards that make your friend rage quit dominion
Torturer chain
KC Masq Goons
KC Pawn
KC Cartagrapher
Long Scrying Pool Engine

Seems like a good combo when Trader is good, (alt victory points) but wouldn't make me want to go trader when I wouldn't already.
As an absolute that seems nonsensical.  If the combo is good, valuation of Trader should go up.  If not by much, ok, not many boards will become Trader boards.  But it's not possible for the combo to be useful and have no impact whatsoever on how often you buy Trader on any of the trillions of boards with Trader in them, with varying amounts of alt VP support, cursing attack presence, etc.

What I was trying to say is that if I'm going I go trader, I might pick up an extra wishing well or two. But, if the board looks like an engine board, the presence of wishing well won't make me want to go trader instead. I think wishing well is a reasonably good $3 on its own, this will improve its value in big money, alternate vp, and cursing game.

Mine/ Fools gold is the best opening there according to council room, so for fools gold that was correct.

Game Reports / Golden Deck
« on: June 12, 2012, 08:36:30 pm »
Here's a game I just played where I set up the golden deck. I don't feel I was successful, with turn 18 getting it up and running. This was despite chapel on the board. What do I do differently? I can never seem to pull it off well...

I heard some people play with real cards! We could try that...

Mountebank- The fact it gives out two cards makes for a super mucked up deck. Then the built in most is annoying. Oh, your opponent reveals one of his 2 curses 3 times in a row against your 2 'banks. Sweet.

Torturer, Ironworks, Village, Throne room, King's court. Then pull a massive Torturer engine fueled by the ironworks that makes them quit the game forever.

When asking about logs and archives of games this was the answer given:
Great question! It's something that we probably won't have right out the door, but we know that we have enough interest in them that we're seeing where they fit in the plan. So, pretty much I can say not yet, but we'll see what we can do.

Hadn't seen this posted here, so here's the website for Official Online Dominion http://www.playdominion.com. Look promising?

Kitchen Table
Cost: Number Of Players * 2
+1 Action
+2 Cards for each player besides yourself
Each other player draws a card.

I would open sea hag/ steward to get one or two curses in everyones deck before the mountebanks come out. Steward for trashing, albeit relatively weak.

216
A native village fueled goons mega-turn seems like the best bet here with no strong card draw. I'd probably open Young Witch/Silver to get curses in your opponents deck. Shanty town is also a relatively weak bane.

FunSockets

It looks like they haven't done anything yet, but plan to be a general platform for browser-based games, probably with Dominion as a launch title.  That would explain the secrecy to a degree, and possibly the time delays if they have other things they want to release at the same time.

The social features the website lists looks promising, with leaderboard and achievements and user data like councilroom.

Game Reports / Avoiding Familiar
« on: May 04, 2012, 03:07:14 pm »
I played this game against a highly ranked opponent, in which I elected to skip familiar. My thoughts were to set up an engine, and then trash away the curses he game me with the trading post. I was able to with the game, but was skipping the familiars the right move or did I just get lucky?
Log: http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120503-134345-5063fdcd.html
Key Cards: Familiar, Border Village, Lab, Nobles, Trading Post

Where would you rank Familar with the other~ $5 cursers? I would think it is the strongest. The potion price puts it fourth behind IGG witch and Moutebank head on, however.

In 3 or more player, it can be hard to tell about the score if you aren't paying too much attention. If one player knows he has about 2 provinces and about 2 duchies, he might be thinking the last province would give him a good chance. He might not know one player has gotten 5 provinces. This could seem like he is "kingmaking".  In 4 player, 12 provinces are averaged out 3 a piece, so a duchy or two can make a difference. Without paying super close attention to the score without a point tracker, you can easily misevaluate the number of points. Even if it's only by one province, it can make a big difference in 4 players.

Dominion Isotropic / Tribute

Isotropic will give you +4$ if you reveal to differently named but same type treasure cards (such as gold and silver). The Intrigue rulebook says "You get bonuses for the types of cards revealed". It's my understanding that you would get +2$ from gold and silver. Example here on turn 14: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201205/03/game-20120503-121047-597f2e41.html
