I say "Silberling" instead of Silber all the time.
Sometimes even "Kupferling" although that's not really a thing.

Why can't we just use their real names?  It isn't that hard.  Donald did this as a tribute to people who are important to him and helped him bring us this wonderful game.
Indeed, it's not hard.
It's impossible to remember.
Really ? Seriously I have no problems with the knights. I remember the name of all dominion cards and their effects, I don't see why it is so hard for Knights.

Well for me it's like I can easily remember the normal cards because there's always a specific "thing" associated, like a profession, a building or whatever. Things that I can imagine and I can make a connection to its function with that.

For the knights however - since I don't know the people behind them - those are just generic names. Totally interchangeable. I just can't make a connection.

No one will ever come up with a band name better than "Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem."
Salacious Crumb.
Also, Eccentric Flint.

I could go on.
Celestial Chameleon and the Blue Dogs.

I once met a small band who named themselves "Special Guest". To get tons of gigs obviously.

Well I've seen "TBA" so many times now, I know all their songs.

Masterpiece will combo well with Feodum.

Dominion Articles / Re: Rebuild Mirrors
« on: June 11, 2013, 11:57:18 am »
Very well written article!

I would also have to agree with Jack Rudd that as far as attacks go, trashers are the only real danger.
In a non-mirror you can add your own cursers/discarders to your Rebuild deck, since Rebuild is non-terminal.

However in a Rebuild mirror I really have no idea if it's worthwhile to sacrifice the Duchy split and throw in a Militia or Witch. Discarders probably not, cursers likely yes if you can get them on T1 or T2. Early cursers should be able to hit enough before the Duchies are gone.

EDIT: Discarders could be a worthwhile addition after the Duchies are gone though.

I don't want weak cards redone. I want new unique cards!
Except maybe an improved Scout.  ;)

"Terminal Silver that you can save for later" sounds like a solid 4$ card already.
With the added Remodel effect it looks like a pretty strong 5$ card.

« on: June 06, 2013, 08:25:59 am »
Journeyman's sifting is actually even more huge than Embassy in the early game. If you skip two estates with Journeyman, you essentially drew 5 cards and only discarded 2!! Whereas with Embassy you would have discarded 3 cards and also have given your opponent a silver. So, I would say it seems Journeyman seems to be a solid terminal draw card.

Yeah, and you didn't feed your opponent a silver too. It's quite nice.

Or maybe one that gets stronger the more Coin tokens you have?  Like:

Take a Coin token.  For every Coin token you have, +1 Card.

You could save them, and after a while you would be drawing an insane amount with it.  It seems like it would be a good BM enabler.

To be honest to me it looks much more like a megaturn engine enabler.

Ok, how about we replace Royal Seal with IGG?
That should give us something to think about.

37
Horn of Plenty has the same weirdness, it's a Treasure giving $0. Why not leave the $0 out? Bank doesn't list a value, but has question marks in the corners, so we already knew a Treasure didn't have to specify a fixed amount.

But HoP does give a fixed amount of $ for your buy phase, which is 0.
It just has an added mechanic on top of that.
Whereas for bank the $ amount for your buy phase is unknown.

You know, there's also the irreducible complexity issue.

I don't know, is there?

Governor. I'm just tired of it in general.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Beggar/Counterfeit?
« on: May 06, 2013, 02:59:03 am »
I don't know about Beggar + Counterfeit. But I had a lot of fun with JoaT into Engine with Counterfeit recently. Used 2 Counterfeits to get rid of coppers.
And the silvers of JoaT got me into Kings Court territory quite quickly.
Later on instead of being a dead card JoaT generated 4$ each turn and Counterfeit got rid of that silver immediately. Even added a second JoaT to utilize both Counterfeits. Also the +buy is really nice.

As was pointed out in the marauder article thread, BM does not suffer THAT much from the first ruins. Plus marauder is a rather slow looter.

Yes, Chapel/Marauder into BM doesn't look so hot.
The other suggestions I like much more.

42
Also underrated are Pillage and City. All 3 of these cards have the ability to (at least reasonably often) completely dominate the board to the point where the whole game revolves around them, and this attribute keeps them in the top half of the $5 cards in my book.

I'm kind of sitting on the fence with City. My first impression was it should be lower because often it's just a VERY expensive village. But then again if there's a nice engine on the board and the only thing you need to make it work is a village, then you won't mind too much whether it's expensive or not.
And on the other hand there are those boards where it completely dominates.
So overall I guess I'm fine with where it's sitting at.

Dominion Articles / Re: Haggler
« on: April 19, 2013, 03:09:33 am »
Really, Haggler belongs in a specific family of gainers alongside Hoard and Explorer. Actually, it's theoretically incredibly similar to Explorer, but much better in practice.

I disagree. Hoard and Explorer are restricted to gaining treasure. Haggler is not. That's one way to use Haggler, sure. But the ability to gain action cards makes it *much* more versatile.

Well you say you disagree but it sure looks like you two agree. :)

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Beating KC
« on: April 18, 2013, 11:21:36 am »
I suspect the AI isn't very good at engine building?
If there was a cantrip or two it should be possible to build a nice KC engine capable of multi-province turns - in general.
But this kingdom is obviously not ideal.

Dominion Articles / Re: Some points on Armory
« on: April 18, 2013, 11:13:24 am »
Do you find its price point too competitive?

Yes, I suppose that's my mindset on the card

And yes, gainers are really good for engine components, but the thing is you'll often open with Workshop if you plan on gaining lots of Village type cards. Armory is $4, and if there is a good terminal at $4 then you may be wasting an opening buy simply for the topdecking. It depends on the set-up, but often I find that there is another $4 card I can open with that will help me more.

I don't really see the dilemma here.
If there's a 4$-card here that you really want but you open Armory instead, what happens is you play Armory and then top-deck that other 4$-card and you play it only one turn later than you would have otherwise.

Heh, I have Graverobber fifth to last. I think it's almost the worst.  :)

Good topic, I think the title could be better though.
Also a good example for helping your opponent directly is Margraves. Specifically against a BM deck that is geared towards single-province turns.

Do you rank the cards by how much of a game-changing effect they have in order to help select nearby kingdoms?

Congratulations for your win!

I played in the qualification, but I failed with this game, because I was really unlucky with my King's Courtes:
Quote
— GwinnR's turn 28 —
GwinnR plays a King's Court.
... and plays a King's Court.
... ... and plays a King's Court.
... ... ... and plays a King's Court.
... ... ... ... and plays a King's Court.
... ... ... ... ... but plays no action with it.
... ... ... ... and plays the King's Court again.
... ... ... ... ... but plays no action with it.
... ... ... ... and plays the King's Court a third time.
... ... ... ... ... but plays no action with it.
... ... ... and plays the King's Court again.
... ... ... ... but plays no action with it.
... ... ... and plays the King's Court a third time.
... ... ... ... but plays no action with it.
... ... and plays the King's Court again.
... ... ... but plays no action with it.
... ... and plays the King's Court a third time.
... ... ... but plays no action with it.
... and plays the King's Court again.
... ... but plays no action with it.
... and plays the King's Court a third time.
... ... but plays no action with it.
After this I only could resign.

[Please don't tell me, that they say "GwinnR wins!" at the bottom. I resigned and this is only to mock me  :'(]

Well, you misplayed this horribly.
Didn't you read my Big Money King's Court article?
It can be really powerful!

I gave GendoIkari his 1000th respect :D

I took his 1000th respect away to make you look like a fool ... eh I mean to allow someone else to give the 1000th respect.

EDIT: That person being me, yay!
