To all the edge-casers:

-Yes, he knows that, because of a failed Bureaucrat.
-No, he doesn't win the game with this.
-No, he doesn't buy a Colony.

Ok, now it's your turn ;-)

You played Possession on your turn, your opponent sees this and says gg, you need to skedaddle, and you are not playing a game that will affect your ranking on Iso or Goko.

It depends on the player I was against for me.

If I felt I was going against a much stronger player, I'd probably veto Fairgrounds.
Against a weaker player I would go FV of WV as they seem to play themself

Rabid specified a player of equal rank to you, though.

Edit: Maybe it depends on mean skill vs. certainty?

Okay, so then the OP was unclear (to me at least), not mistaken. Thanks, I get it now. Could a sentence of explanation be added after the Saboteur sentence, then?

I'm amused by the number of people electing to veto Pirate Ship.  If your opponent goes after Pirate Ship while WV/FV/Peddler is on the board, you thank him/her for clearing out your Copper for you, and use the cash from Peddler and FV since you'll be cycling your deck every turn.

Yeah, and Mandarin and Woodcutter give +coin too. I would veto Peddler b/c I suck at that card.

"After 5 highways your Saboteur will seek out your opponent's provinces, though I've never seen that one pulled off."

Sab seeks out all cards costing $3 or more, so I think you're either mistaken or unclear here. GREAT article though!

This is working out well... if you can't play with Donald X., you can at least play with someone who's played with Donald X. ;D

Is there a pedantic man meme for edge case memes?

Or should it just be a picture of the f.DS logo?
I think the Inception scene is the best we have for that so far. I was kind of hoping there'd be something for "There's an app for that" where you could change "app" to "edge case", but I don't think there is.

There's the serious looking guy whose probably from something like the Office but I dunno whose memes generally go "False. ..."

Dwight Schrute from The Office! Fan of bears, beets, and Battlestar Galactica.

The only ranking so far that's seemed way way off is Conspirator. Why is such an unreliable card so highly ranked?

I find it strange you can say this when it fell one rank about Throne Room, a WAY more unreliable card.

And actually, I still feel Throne Room's rank is bonkers. I had it 41st, and I still feel that's about right, maybe a touch higher. In a normal engine you generally need to match you villages with your draw repeatedly. In a TR engine, you still need to match those, but also need to match your TR's with the things you want to TR. It's very good when you can do that, but it's a trap far too often I find.

Okay yeah, I agree TR is overrated here too. But I'm happy with TR connecting to almost anything, and all you have to do is buy a lot of actions, and trashing helps too. But with Conspirator, you better be able to play some villages or cantrips before any Conspirators or else you're screwed.

What kind of tree would you like to be?

I think we are veering into "if you could get Dominion translated into a quirky language" territory. It would be cool to see Donald X. as several different trees, but I'd get no special pleasure from seeing Donald X. as any particular tree.

Okay let's see. The table has Black Market and nine cards with Potion in the cost. The last one, Transmute, is in the Black Market deck, where my opponent gets it.

My opponent uses Ambassador to give me the Transmute. I Remodel it into Apothecary, then Procession the Apothecary into Alchemist. I use Thief to get his Philosopher's Stone, and Junk Dealer my Squire to get a Familiar. He passes me a Golem via Masquerade, then hits it with a Saboteur, so I take a Scrying Pool to replace it. Then he hits the Scrying Pool with Swindler and gives me a University. Luckily I hit his Possession with my Jester, taking a copy, then when I play Possession I use his turn to buy a Vineyard.
He can't give you the transmute with ambassador since it's not part of the supply :)

Uh, I think Donald X. knows his own ga-- wait...

Back to my still-unanswered question, would anyone else pick up a Bureaucrat on this board or is it just me?

I think you are in the extreme minority, but I don't know if you mean as an opener or what. I think a bureaucrat-opening player would have no chance vs the hag - hag clogs your deck, and you are proposing that we further clog it with silvers. I played this board with rabid yesterday, and at no time did I think "wow let's pick up a bureaucrat now, that will win the game for me." If I remember correctly I didn't get any stables either (or maybe like 1?), because village-smithy was humming pretty nicely. I'll let him post the log, since CR isn't working for me :)

Here's what I said first:

Any merit to picking up a Bureaucrat on either the first or second reshuffle (along with a Sea Hag of course) in order to build your economy, since Sea Hag makes that job a lot harder?

So I'd pick up a Sea Hag first, and then a Bureaucrat for economy. IDK how good that is though, which is why I asked.

Edit: Just noticed someone voted Smithy... care to defend that, whoever you are? And my vote is first-player advantage for the other question.

What $4 Dark Ages cards have we yet to see on this list?

Goko Dominion Online / Re: Starting a Private Game

Private game means you can only select a bot.

What's the point of that? Selecting bots for a game takes all of 2 seconds, so what's the point in a separate mode? And why not just call it Bots Only mode?

Quote
If it is request to join you have to accept them by clicking accept. What exactly are you trying to do?

This was my thinking:

The private game check box must just be a placeholder feature until they allow you to invite specific people from the player list.  That's my optimism talking anyway.

I want to invite specific players into my game, not have random people requesting until the person I want to play with requests to join.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201302/07/game-20130207-121945-b8d00c59.html

cards in supply: Festival, Gardens, Harvest, Highway, Jester, Margrave, Trader, Vault, Village♦, Wharf, and Young Witch

What would you do with this board full of goodies? And what do you on the (essentially) two different opening splits? I opened 5/2 with Wharf/nothing, trying to pick up more Wharves, some Villages to chain them together as well as protect me from curses, and also a couple of Traders to increase my deck size (in case I went Gardens which I planned to do and in fact did). I realize now that I could've probably *not* revealed the bane in order to gain a silver with trader, but oh well. Once I decided to get 2 gardens one turn and then 4 on the turn after, it was gg. I'd love to see some different (better?) strategies that you'd pick here.

I don't understand how Private Game works. How do you allow someone (non-bot) to join a Private Game? In order to play with a friend of mine I have to make it a Request to Join game, but then sometimes I have to reject other people that try to play and I feel bad/it's annoying. Going into a near-empty lobby helps, but I still want to figure out Private Game mode. If it matters, we're both logged-in users.

Puzzles and Challenges / Re: One man's trash...

Here are three attempts; the first two aren't impressive at all but helped get the creative juices going for a much better third answer (all three have separate spoiler tags). Looking forward to even better answers from the rest of you! Oh, and check my math, please. (Edit conflict: have not read heron's answer yet.)

You Bishop a Platinum for 5VP. Your opponent misclicks and trashes a Colony, making the VP swing 15.

You desperately want to thin out your deck and Governor-remodel a Colony into nothing. Your opponent trashes a Forge and gains a Province, making the VP swing 16.

You desperately want to thin out your deck and Governor-remodel a Colony into nothing. Your opponent, who has piledriven the Fairgrounds, trashes a Bank and gains a Province, giving him 10 unique cards in his deck (he still has another Bank in his deck, and this is his first Province). This gives him 6+16 VP, or 22 VP, making the VP swing 32.

By the rules of the game, everyone is playing the game, whether you like it or not.

I hate it when people say "oh I'm not playing!" You have to play; you are playing.
