What's a FAQ?  Maybe we need a pre-FAQ explaining the FAQ and why you should read it.

There could afterall be multiple Ruined Markets but with different card attributes.  e.g. Ruined Market (+1 Buy), Ruined Market (+1 Card), etc.  Seems more fair for Ambassador interactions.

Rhombus vs. BadAssMutha - Rhombus wins, 3-1

Rhombus wins, 32-27
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/22/game-20120722-111704-d9494d59.html

We both open Masquerade / Silver.  I'm not sure I like BA's purchase of a Throne Room on turn 3, but he connects it on turn 6.  I prefer Stash where he buys Laboratory.  BA breaks PPR leading to my win.

BadAssMutha wins, 37-31
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/22/game-20120722-112431-2e56558d.html

BA opens Ambassador / Mining Village to my Ambassador / Ambassador.  He starts picking up Treasuries where I don't seem to be able to hit 5 until turn 9, so I decide that labs will be better.  Fairly boring game.

Rhombus wins, 22-13
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/22/game-20120722-113643-22f8fe74.html

I open - / Ghost Ship where BA opens - / Potion, which I think is a big mistake.  The actions will be nice, but it'll just be too slow.  My plan is to get actions from Border Villages, even though I'll still be a bit heavy on terminals (which I think is ok if you're in a strong position on a Ghost Ship board).  I hit 2 of his coppers with my Swindler before my own Swindler gets Swindled away.  I don't think Jester is great here either.  Game ends on piles - Estates, Border Villages, and Ghost Ships.

Rhombus wins, BadAssMutha resigns
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/22/game-20120722-115248-5fd6aee3.html

I open Steward / Warehouse to his Steward / Scout.  Not sure exactly what he was trying to do here - why would you want to pick up Great Halls with your Scout?  I build a weak little engine and get close to piling at the end, instead picking up a few points just in case his Saboteur hits any of my points.  BA resigns and says good set.

Good games BA - look forward to playing with you again soon!

My bad - perhaps someone can move this thread.

I think that should explain the big gap, but not the one on my own page.  Am I imagining the small drop there?

Council Room Feedback / Number of Games Played Decreasing?
« on: July 09, 2012, 12:20:15 am »
I was looking at a player's profile and their stats for number of games played (the graph) shows over 4000 logged games dropping down to 0 - how does this happen?  On my own page, there's a small dip after May 8th which also looks odd, but it's not big at all.  Any idea?

I'd say my IRL games are fairly conversation-heavy.  One of our favorite lines is while waiting for your opponent to decide how to use his/her buy(s): "Buy a curse, buy a curse!"  General smack-talk is also commonplace.

Do you ever successfully convince them to buy a Curse?

In one game, yes.  My friend's engine wasn't so great, but he swore that buying multiple curses throughout the game would enable him to pass them to me with his ambassadors.  I ended up with 1 and him with 4/5.  It was such a moot point too, attempting this around turn 12.

We're a fun group, so it's typically just one of many running gags.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Should Chapel cost $3?
« on: July 05, 2012, 06:52:07 pm »
Are you saying that you should buy Chapel 99% of the time it appears? Because that's definitely not true! It's probably in the 70-80% range (just a guess).

I think Rhombus is saying that 99 percent of the time that you buy Chapel, you should do so on Turns 1/2.  Which is something else entirely.

Exactly.  You definitely don't purchase Chapel 99% of the time.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Should Chapel cost $3?
« on: July 05, 2012, 04:10:16 pm »
Yes, but why not $3?  I understand that increasing the cost to $3 makes it less powerful in most 5/2 games, but then it just takes it down a few notches, right?  Doesn't it feel a bit off that it's found in so many of the top openings?
It's $2 so you can buy it more easily when you're choking on Curses (whether or not that's a good play). A lot of new players see that as the only point to Chapel. Deciding if having 2/5 should be especially good or especially bad was not as relevant to me.

The linked post covers more of this.

I suppose this makes sense for games with newbs, but we all know here that you really need to open chapel for it to be effective in 99% of situations.

I read the post and understand the reasoning, it just feels overwhelmingly powerful (again pointing to the council room openings list).  I'm tempted to say that I agree with all the cards' costs except for this one, the more I think about it.  Not a game breaker for sure, just really not balanced for openings here.  Should you really be able to open Governor-Mountebank-Witch/Chapel?

67
Qvist - can you clarify exactly how these are weighted?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Should Chapel cost $3?

Most two-player games of Dominion pit a 3/4 opening (or 4/3 obv.) vs. another 3/4 opening. In those games, Chapel costing less than $4 rather than $4 increases the number of possible openings, which makes the game more interesting.

Yes, but why not $3?  I understand that increasing the cost to $3 makes it less powerful in most 5/2 games, but then it just takes it down a few notches, right?  Doesn't it feel a bit off that it's found in so many of the top openings?

Jorbles vs. Rhombus.  Jorbles wins, 3-2

Jorbles wins, 53-45
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/04/game-20120704-183937-c8db096b.html

Jorbles opens Steward/Chapel to my Treasure Map/Chapel.  His maps hit on turn 6, mine on turn 7.  Not really sure what happened here.

Rhombus wins, 39-31
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/04/game-20120704-185256-12f2859b.html

I open Jester / Embargo to Jorbles' Militia/Embargo.  I get a nice gold on turn 4, embargo them on turn 5, and then buy second on turn 6.  I get my first province at turn 8 (embargoed by Jorbles), while he doesn't get a gold until turn 18 because I've double embargoed golds on turn 9.

Jorbles wins, 50-44
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/04/game-20120704-190404-bf460a82.html

We both open Courtyard/Silver on this Duchy/Duke board.  Game ends on Harems/Duchies/Dukes as I have 8 in my hand - how unfortunate.

Rhombus wins, 40-39
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/04/game-20120704-191121-fc427122.html

I open Remake/Silver to Jorbles' Remake/Courtyard.  My goal here is to transition into something with Embassy, but things don't seem to connect.  He purchases an oasis on turn 18 instead of an estate, allowing me to win the following turn.

Jorbles wins, 27-16
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201207/04/game-20120704-191601-d8b5d6e9.html

Ironworks/Great Hall/Gardens/Crossroads.  Big 1p board and perhaps I should have tried to draw out the game after losing the Gardens split.

I'm most curious about games 3 and 5 - what went wrong for me here?

All in all I'd say the games were very close - good games Jorbles.

Dominion General Discussion / Should Chapel cost $3?

Why or why not?  Has this been discussed before?  It seems like it'd make many of the power 5/2 openings more balanced and have almost no other effect.

@methods and rhombus

Looking at Game 5, any thoughts on using SC to enable GM.  Potentially Potion/SC opening, get Apothecaries/Alchemists and when opportunity arises, discard hand to gain grand market.  With a $5 hand, Cache could be bought which wouldn't be all that bad with apothecaries picking up extra copper.

I thought about this, but I wanted the card draw anyway, so there was no time to go for SC.

Rhombus wins, 3-2

Games:

Rhombus wins, 58-18
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/22/game-20120622-092221-4d0e15ab.html

Tournament game where I open Lookout / Sea Hag in 1p and methods opens Silver / Trader.  Thought process here is to curse him up a little bit if possible and thin down my deck to win tournaments.  I buy a gold on turn 6 and Province on turn 7.  Methods goes for Sea Hag on turn 6 - my feeling is that if you're going to go for it at all on this board, you have to open with it.  I win tournaments on turns 10, 12, 14, 16, 17, 23 and the rest is history.  For some reason, methods also starts buying duchies on turn 14.

methods of rationality wins, 43-39
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/22/game-20120622-093106-fc22d06c.html

We both open Young Witch / Tunnel.  I'm able to hit on turn 3 where he misses.  I purchase a tunnel, he purchases a trade route (bane).  I'm able to hit gold again on turn 7.  I continue to purchase tunnels and he buys Minions and transitions into a KC engine.  Close game.

methods of rationality wins, 55-41
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/22/game-20120622-093943-b26a530d.html

Not sure how I lost with Caravan / Ambassador, but I did.  Methods uses a pure Embassy+Tunnel strategy.  Any comments on this one?

Rhombus wins, 50-32
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/22/game-20120622-095357-0c22bd61.html

I open Pawn / Tactician and he opens Silver / Tournament.  I sure do feel good with a 5/2 here - it'll help me win tournaments and Tactician is one of my best cards.  We both end up with a tactician, tournament, and province by turn 6 with me one turn ahead.  He purchases a Governor where I might have purchased an additional Tournament.  We both win tournaments on turn 8 with me picking up Followers and methods grabbing Princess.  The rest of the game goes as expected resulting in my second win, leading into the matchmaker.

Rhombus wins, 85-39
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201206/22/game-20120622-100446-4c73b526.html

When I saw this board I got a bit worried because I'm not so great at Alchemist.  After taking a minute or so, I'm fairly certain that it's the way to go.  Maybe Fool's Gold will play a part, maybe not.  I open Warehouse / Potion and methods opens Island / Silver - I'm feeling pretty good.  My alchemist stack continues to build as he buys money.  Methods buys a Potion on turn 10, which I really don't understand except as a last ditch effort.  I realize that I'll need Grand Markets for additional buys so start to go for those, as he does.  I miss my potion on turn 15, so the stack breaks, but my deck is so dense that it doesn't even cause a bump.  I win with 7 colonies.

Good games, methods.

Duke - always up for the rush
Tactician - one of my favorite cards
Mining Village - my favorite village
Baron
Stash
Masquerade
Courtyard - looks like I know when not to buy this card (honestly hate it)
Pawn - surprising
Watchtower - terrible with this card, but when I avoid it apparently I'm great
Harem - probably buy when I'm ahead and know when to stay away
