Swindler, Menagerie-
Governor, Mountebank, Wharf, Horn of Plenty, Haggler
Grand MarketI was pretty stumped the when I saw this? What the hell to get? What is the fastest here?
I was first player, opened 4/3 (my opponent as well).
My thoughts were following (in
italic are hindsight thoughts that came after the game or too late into the game):
Governor is generally strong, felt even stronger with Chapel and me being first (
Also there were not 4$ or 7$ for my opponent to trash). But then...
Wharf is great as well, with no engine in sight I wasn't sure how fast I can transition from Chapeled deck to Wharf-BM, it seemed Chapelless Wharf was way to go if I decide to go there.
And now I realize Governor (yours or even better opponent's) would speed you up if you were to go Chapel/Wharf/BMMy thought on Mountebank were - if I Chapel down and get him played few turns in a row, I'm golden. A Chapel is not a great way to deal with loads of curses, I've heard.
Grandmarket - While Haggler-GM is cute, I still fear this card because my feeling is (
councilroom confirmed it) that this is one of my worst cards. I never know when to take it and when not to. I always fall for GMTrap. So wasn't going to put my faiths there.
Swindler seemed like just another dead terminal which will collide (esp. if I go Chapel), didn't think I can branch enough for Menagerie/HOP to work. XRoads are fine when I go green.
After a minute of silence, my plan was open Silver/Chapel, trash down ASAP, get Mountebank very early and spam him. Later, buy
Province -> GM -> Silver -> XRoads (if green), in that order. My opponent opened Swindler/Chapel, didn't trash as aggressive as I did, went for Wharf, Menageries (which kinda looks counter-intuitive to me) and Swindlers.
---------------
I trashed him 7-0 in Provinces. Obviously my strategy was a dominant and strong one, but was it the strongest? Would Governors (which weren't bought a single time) be more powerful? Heavier GMs? Wharfs?
