I'm having fun with a mill rogue deck that works extremely well with fates like coin, armor or bananas. Also, the murloc option mid-game is amazing. This brawl allows for control decks to really shine and those are my favorite kind of deck.

Mill's a good spot: I was milling people (including myself) accidentally with Tempo Mage anyway, and you can take advantage of other people angling for the spell synergy fates.  Might Portals be a problem?

Here's a complete list.  The trigger for the second fate is your hero dropping to 20 health.  There's a lot of spell synergy, so Tempo Mage is pretty good.

One thing to notice is that the second round of Dire Fates has the Murloc option which is essentially a board clear, so be aware of the possibility of losing your minions as you drop your opponent to 20.

EDIT: And won my first two games with this deck :)
EDIT2: Then on my 3rd and 4th wins (not right after the first two, but oh well), I finished him off with Nightblade's battlecry.

Good job!  If you're looking for cards to replace in future, start with Shield Block and Antique Healbot as they're off theme.  You want to be doing lots of damage to your opponent to kill them as quickly as possible, and both of these cards slow you right down to heal instead.
Seems like healing would be more important when I'm using weapons?

Your goal with a face deck is to kill them before they kill you.  If the game runs for a long time you're likely to lose anyway, as the fast aggressive minions tend not to be as good value as the slower midrange minions your opponents might be playing.  Healing is "not losing", and a Face Warrior loses eventually (if the game lasts long enough), so you want to play to win, rather than to not lose.

Do you often find the healing important?  If so then keep going with it.  If you find you'd rather have some additional reach to finish your opponent, try replacing the slower cards first.

Oh, the quintessential Prep-Coin-Concede.

I was so hoping for the concede, but it never came!

There's quite a low ceiling on how popular Camel can be.  There are already games when you don't really want to play it because you know it will pull out a Mana Wyrm or a Northshire Cleric.  If Camels are ever all over the place then everybody just starts playing 1-of Zombie Chows or something.  Something like Knife Juggler/Camel/Unleash mitigates the downsides somewhat, but needing to be ready to deal with the opposing one drop makes Camel much clunkier.

Prep/Coin/Coin/Sap Loatheb is not a play you want to make as Miracle Rogue.

So J4CKIECHAN's zooey Camel Hunter is interesting.  He finished top EU with it last night, which surely involved both luck and surprise factor.  I've been playing it a bit today, and it's playing well, although we're obviously still very early in the season.

Someone just pulled Mal'Ganis as the "random demon" for that "do two damage, summon a random demon if it kills", and then got it a second time in the same game.

Bane of Doom always summons Mal'Ganis.  Didn't you know?

Same reason why Jaraxxus is not as good as one might think.

I'm not sure how to take this, because Jaraxxus is very, very good.  You certainly need to find a moment to play him, but he's such a tremendous source of value that he single-handedly wins many control matchups for Warlock.

Well, I'm nothing if not consistent, going 3-3-3-4-2-3 in my last six arenas...

Huh.  And opened the Mistcaller.  Maybe time to play some Shaman?  Or useless?

More or less.  Sorry.  It's extreme value, but 6 mana for a 4/4 is awful tempo.

I'm pretty sure that makes Force of nature unplayable.

Just because it doesn't work on Charge minions played this turn?  I'm pretty sure you're exaggerating.

Yes, Savage Roar is still good without Force of Nature.  But Force of Nature is kind of weak without Savage Roar.

It's just struck me that Force of Nature and Wobbling Runts are fast and slow version of a similar concept.

The optimal play at any given time is the move that maximizes the expected value of the expectiminimax tree: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expectiminimax_tree

It's not clear that Dominion can be put into this form, because of the simultaneous decisions.  (If this is in fact always possible for some clever reason I'd love to hear it!)

Today I drafted the world's greediest Paladin deck.

Quote
Repentance
Worgen Infiltrator
Young Dragonhawk
Zombie Chow

Equality
Argent Protector
Flame Juggler
Gilblin Stalker

Coghammer
Argent Horserider
Dancing Swords
Demolisher x2
Ogre Brute
Scarlet Crusader

Blessing of Kings
Hammer of Wrath
Keeper of Uldaman x3
Murloc Knight x2
Piloted Shredder

Djinni of Zephyrs
Tuskar Jouster

Archmage
Drakonid Crusher
Kodorider x2
Master Jouster

Painfully low on 2 drops, but good draws and lots of 3's meant I usually got away with it.  Highlights were buffing Young Dragonhawk with Keeper of Uldaman (twice), Djinni+Blessing of Kings (twice) and a Mage I faced early on who played two Flamestrikes and Polymorphed my first 3 inspire minions, only to have nothing left for the fourth.

I've yet to hit 12 wins and thought this might stand a chance, but alas it petered out at 10-3.

Edit: This guy with 3 Tirion's may also have a claim to the title.

Pro tip: Don't do mafia.

But you've never tried it!
Studies show that fdsers addicted to mafia are less good than the others at Dominion.

I don't mean to imply that I'm a top tier player, but I will say that I didn't get that little title under my username with just my good looks.
Imagine how good you'd be if you DIDN'T play mafia! :O

He'd probably be pretty awful at mafia if he didn't play mafia.

Eh, I've never lost a game.

I just got a reward for winning my 100th game in play mode. It's says it's a Hearthstone card mount and that I need to log into Heroes of the STorm to claim it. What's Heroes of the Storm? And what does this card mount do?  Is this another completely pointless reward like those golden basic cards?

It's a pointless cosmetic reward for a different game.  You can safely ignore it.

Took me a while.

It's a spoiler on a moat.
Thank you, guys.
I would never have gotten it, since I didn't know that that car thingy is called a spoiler. :D

You mean the piano stair?

General Discussion / Re: Random Stuff Part III
« on: February 26, 2016, 01:19:19 pm »
It's certainly possible to have a die with two faces that are the same shape, but with different chances of landing on each.  However, a d10 has much more symmetry than this: the faces are indistinguishable.

Suppose it's our job to generate random numbers from 1 to 10.  I pick a d10 out of the box, then put it on the table in front of you.  You then paint it in the standard pattern, starting by putting a 1 on the face on the top.  I then roll the d10 and report the result.

Your job is harder than mine, so I tend to get bored easily.  To make things more interesting I start rolling the blank d10s to decide which way up to give them to you, rather than just taking them our of the box and putting them onto the table.  After you've painted the numbers on I roll the d10 and report the result as before.

In one sense this process is different from the original one: each face of each d10 is now getting a random number, with all possibilities equally likely, rather than the one it was destined to have when it was sitting in the box.  But it doesn't really matter; since blank d10's all look the same whichever way up you put them, you won't even know I've been rolling the d10s before giving them to you if I do it in the next room.  So it can't be the case that my pre-rolling has had any effect on the numbers I end up reporting.  But whichever face was destined to come up at the final roll, it now has a random number on it rather than the one it was supposed to: so our process must have been producing random numbers all along.

Well, one could argue that a d10 is not a platonic solid and thus the results are not evenly distributed, right? In that sense, d20 is "more random" I think. That's why I prefer d20 to d10 anyway.

Hmm, I can see that argument, but I think a d10 is still evenly distributed. The even and odd sides both have a 50% of coming up. Given that, each of the five numbers on that side have a 20% chance of coming up. So you still have a uniform distribution of results even though the d10 is not a platonic solid. Even the wonky dice like the d46 that are built like the d10 would be evenly distributed. I heard rumors of a d17, though I'd be really curious about that distribution.

I view the d20 and d100 as essentially identical. If all you care about are 5% increments, then both do the job just as well. Granted, you only need to roll 1 die with a d20 and 2 dice with a d100 (unless you use a heathen golf ball). If you need greater degrees of successes, then a d100 will let you capture the 2% chance of such-and-such happening. And really if you need more precision than that, you could technically implement a d1000 or even d10k roll, though that is probably not a game I would be interested in.

Why do you think a d10's results are uniformly distributed?  It isn't regular.

It's symmetric?

What do you mean by this?  I'm pretty sure it does not have the same symmetries that a (regular) die with 4, 6, 8, 12, or 20 sides has.

It has a transitive symmetry group: given any two faces A and B I can rotate (and reflect if necessary, although it isn't for a d10) so that A is now in the position formerly occupied by B.

So I really wanted to know what this guy thinks is being rolled before going all mathy on him.

1d10 + 10*(1d10) is a sum of independent random variables, "so by the central limit theorem is concentrated near its mean"?

I expect to mostly play Standard as it will be the main competitive format.  Wild will probably take over the role of Casual, for playing decks I don't particularly love to complete quests.  I'm sure I'll still play Wild when I have an itch to play some of the old decks.

It's looking more reasonable, but my instinct is still to hold coin and the secret to smooth the curve and hopefully cheat out a T5 Challenger; I guess I don't see the extra stats on the Secretkeeper as a big deal.  In fact I'm still slightly iffy on Secretkeeper: until very recently I was playing a much more value oriented list with double Belchers, but it saw so much play in the qualifiers that I thought I'd give it another shot.

If it is avenge and you can follow up with Minibot, I don't see why not. Also if opponent draws keeper you dont buff it.

This is a potential reason, although I'm not completely sold on it.

Blocking your opponent's secrets is not a reason to coin out yours.

What's with everybody playing Secretkeeper/Coin/secret T1 on an empty board in the Paladin mirror?  That's just bad right?  Leaks information and buys you nothing.

Question - how do you get 7 of the same Legendary minion on the board?  I've seen it in a few YouTube videos.  I understand how Faceless Manipulator can get you three on the board, but how do you get 7?  Outside of Mage's Echo of Medivh and Duplicate, that is.  Because I've seen this with other classes.

I'm not sure of the specific setup people use, but here's one for Priest.

- Play Legendary
- Kill Legendary, having it be the only minion killed for that player.
- Drop Lorewalker Cho and play Resurrect.
- Now both players play Resurrect back and forth until the board is full.

You could also KT up to 6 then Faceless the 7th.
