This is taking forever, but I'm so close to Black Market!  I would feel even worse if I gave up at this point and spent that $1.00 for it.

Further evidence that the developers never played on Isotropic's platform, ever.

Can someone give me a quick guide on the best way to grind to Black Market? I have no idea what I'm doing in these adventures.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: WW's Power Rankings
« on: July 22, 2013, 02:35:07 pm »
Most of my thoughts echo stuff others have said:

I feel like I consistently value develop higher than my opponents, but I still think it is valued too high here on WW's list.

Candlestick Maker has some interesting combos but generally having more than one or two is clunky and they can often be avoided altogether, so I'd say overrated.

I am surprised Moat is so close to Lighthouse, I think given the need for protection and presented with options of Moat and Lighthouse, Lighthouse would be the proper choice probably ~80% of the time.   Moat is maybe slightly better without the protection aspect, but in that regard they are both garbage and that represents such a miniscule part of their value it shouldn't allow Moat to be so high.

I don't get Militia open.  Seems like any time my opponent plays militia instead of the other attacks is a dream.

I think the starting-game requirement of Baker is very cool on most boards and opens a lot of different possibilities.  I think it would be fun to have another card with the same mechanic so that it was seen in more games.  Then when both appear(very rarely) you could have the 2-token start.

Ok, a few more nitpicks:

I have to stand up here for one of my pet favorite cards.  HAVEN!  It doesn't deserve to be in the dumpster next to Tribute and Bureaucrat!

Black Market is indeed hard to rate, but I imagine it would be higher if I had a list.  I probably overrate Moneylender but I can't see how it would be considered inferior to Bureaucrat.

Yeah, that Talisman + Advisor game was sweet, well done.

I think the amount of times I've received a $4 from Harvest is about equal to the number of times I've had it in my hand when I've drawn my entire deck and said "I'm never buying this card again."

Let the nitpicking begin!

I think Pirate Ship > Harvest!

Did it happen against me?  Because I had some weird DC that I've never had before when you and I loaded up a game.

Game Reports / I almost outraced provinces...

Vineyard, Develop, Great Hall, Philosopher's Stone, Armory, Feodum, Pirate Ship, Festival, Margrave, Saboteur

I had absolutely no clue what I was doing.  Eevee and I both admitted that it was our first time buying Feodum.  I wasn't even sure about going feodum until I saw him do it so I felt obliged to contest.  My only plan was to try to make the game last as long as possible and try for alt vps.  The philsopher stones gave big $ but I probably couldve avoided them since I did not plan to buy provinces.  I wish I'd have had another margrave but I didn't want to leave it at only one left.  Saboteur was just hoping to get lucky, I figured hitting the silvers would still be ok.  Silvers were a threat to be emptied buying them one at a time which I've never seen.  My buys switched around trying to prevent him from running piles. There was a turn where I was one vp away from winning.  Stretched it to 35 turns and I ended with a 66 card deck haha!  I still don't know what the best plan for this board is.  Thoughts?

Ah, I got the script right when I bought the cards I didn't realize the extension was making the noise when someone joins my game.  Is there any way I can adjust the volume of the notification? (other than lowering the volume on my browser preferably)

The coin ramping up with Market Square will be very hard to compete with.  Depending on the draws you can load up on gold pretty quickly.  I don't think you have to bother with Butcher, but I'm not sure.  It can turn a gold into a province late game, but you will already have a Stonemason that can turn the same gold into two Duchy.   If you don't get Butcher you will have to compensate with more +buy from excessive market squares, like three of them at least.  I would burn $4s on farming villages so you can spare $5s on something better than Bazaar.  I still don't have a good feel for Stonemason but I think you would want at least two maybe three big stonemason buys here.  I would strongly consider opening 2(3)Stonemason for Market Sqaure + Market Square + Steward(or even Steward, Steward, Market Square).   I think this start will clean quicker than a butcher start and be more likely to combo the Market Square to get the golds going.  The Stonemason would be pretty clunky in the first shuffle but after that I would Stonemason the Golds early and often for engine parts.  Journeyman is pretty amazing for a mid game terminal draw which is where this game will be won/lost.

I'm really liking Baker games.

Did I lose 16 games in a row and stay first place?  Damn.  Seems a bit generous.

Ah yes, the classic "let's develop an online Dominion platform but not bother to even keep up with a preexisting Dominion forum" plan.

Anyway, an interesting read on the evolution of a set, glad he took the time to share.

Yeah seeing it update every game is a bit different.  It's also funny that you note when people around you are playing and if they are winning or losing when you watch your rank.  Random 1p is pretty new to me, I feel so dirty beating someone then going first the next game against them lol.  Makes for longer winning and losing streaks as you can go first a few key times during a winning streak(or get stuck going second when losing).

Woo! After shaking off some rust, a learning curve on Dark Ages, and misclicking like crazy - TOP 5!

I still can't say with any certainty, I've only played with soothsayer a few times.  Given another go on that board I'd probably try for the Soothsayer engine build again but that's just because I hate IGG and I think my build could've come together a bit better.    Watching the video I can really see the tradeoff to the +1 card on Soothsayer, it was huge for you a couple times.  Given my strategy I probably should've opened fishing village and hoped to get lucky for 5 on the second shuffle, that would've helped in the long run but I was hoping the silver would be the short term boost I needed and I could back into a couple fishing villages mid game(FV would also help with all the ruins, which I didn't really think about during my open).  I think once you go soothsayer you want to avoid IGG as each IGG purchased diminishes the value of the soothsayer in your deck - though losing the curse split 7/3 certainly isnt ideal.  Anyway, it is an interesting question, I'm curious what other people think?
