Watching the stream right now! I'd like to playtest. My twitch name is arboretic.

I can test on Chrome on Windows 10, Mac OS, and Ubuntu 16.04. I'm a lapsed Dominion player who used to be serious about the game but I've basically let my skill decay since the demise of Isotropic.

I know the conversation is about banning cards from BM for setup and clarity issues, but if there's going to be a list of cards to exclude from the BM deck I would love to nominate Fairgrounds.

Only one player getting access to what in a BM game is often a $6 Colony has always bummed me out.

You have to have the money at the time and you only get one of it. That seems like an acceptable amount of luck to me.

Well, that's not a problem anymore, right?

I think this can work. But it needs like a new name like 'message bringer' or something. And maybe something cool, like when you buy it, you can gain an additional card costing up to $4 and everyone else get's the same card. That would be wacky, yet fun!

Y'know, I haven't played enough Empires. I totally forgot that's what Messenger did.

Apparently this means this ability should cost $4, right? Unless the on-gain of Messenger somehow makes it more valuable.

Who is the Woodchancellor? Why does he look so familiar? And how did he get to the lofty position of running the undergraduate program in forestry at the University?

I'm pretty sure this hypothetical card has been brought up before, but now in the second edition, there's a design space just waiting for it and it no longer has the problem of being strictly better than anything. I always thought Woodcutter and Chancellor were almost okay cards, except that Woodcutter isn't interesting enough and Chancellor isn't useful enough. That's why Woodcutter needs a non-vanilla effect and Chancellor needs +1 Buy, making them the same card.

Still balanced at $3, right?

Seems to me that the right use of Detonate is to first buy cards which give some economy without any regard for thinning and then buy detonate, trash all 10 starting cards, and transition into an engine.

That's what I'm thinking. Also, this seems better  than Chapel since you can build a little before Detonating your deck. Chapel eats up those early turns and misses shuffles or estates, etc.

"Detonate" is a much more fun name for the card than "Donate". (This deck will self-destruct in... FIVE... turns.)

Playing fully random, I got an amazing board where I scored Fairgrounds for 12 points each.

Kingdom: Stonemason (bane), Black Market, Great Hall, Village, Conspirator, Moneylender, Talisman, Counterfeit, Junk Dealer, Witch, Fairgrounds
Extra supply piles: Potion, Ruins
Extra non-supply piles: Black Market, Spoils

My opponent was strangely cooperative, letting me get 7 of the fairgrounds and even Marauding me so I didn't have to waste too much time buying ruins. Oh, and he also cooperated by not resigning like 20 turns earlier. I ended with 32 distinct cards in my 55-card deck.

I think that -- like on Isotropic -- trashing should be a different *interface*, not just a different appearance of the same interface you use for playing cards.

Hey, I'm sorry.

I clearly haven't been keeping up with this thread and I probably shouldn't be in the next game.

Wait, I see the problem with BOTTLE -- that it's the thing that's specifically not draught (draft) when it comes to beer. Hmm.

Meanwhile, Wiktionary's 17th sense of "draught" is "The bevel given to the pattern for a casting", so that points to CAST. And you can draw water from a WELL.

My queue at this point would be WELL, LITTER, CAST, and then maybe CHARGE and deliberate about BOTTLE some more.

Apparently draught can mean pulling something along, especially a beast of burden, vehicle or tractor. Pulling a litter (in the person-carrier sense) seems to fit well enough here.

I can see the argument for POINT. I might want to guess it before HAWK even, as the clue is "military" and not "war".

CASTLE

« on: December 17, 2015, 05:52:50 pm »
CASTLE and CHARGE are great ones.

Other ones we could try:
HAWK because one can be a war hawk.
HORN because the bugle is associated with the military.
EAGLE because so many U.S. military things are named after eagles. I'm less confident about this one because it's US-specific, and also because we probably aren't so lucky as to get both HAWK and EAGLE as our color.

I'm having my doubts about WINTER all of a sudden. Are we only deciding to guess it because it's cold in the Himalayas, where "Himalayas" was a word on the board?

Even so, LITTER sounds even less appropriate to what Sherpas do.
