Other Games / Any Go players?
« on: January 26, 2013, 02:10:09 pm »
Anyone here play Go?  I just got into it a year or so ago and am not very good, but the game is fascinating!

I even laminated my dividers and there is still space.   :)

3
As I said previously, all my cards are sleeved with the thick sleeves and there is plenty of room in the Hobby Lobby box for guilds.

$20 and all you have to do is make your own dividers and remove the tray.  Easy!

I modified the box that Hobby Lobby sells for art supplies.  I have all the expansions and the Base Money set.  I have the extra thick sleeves on all of them and it fits everything (including randomizes) with plenty of room for the mats and the final expansion.

Do you have a target date for a public reboot?

When do you plan to add on new Beta users?

This is correct:

Quote
1. Can reveal just-drawn MS to get a Gold, even though it is obvious it wasn't in your hand when you trashed.

My wife and I either play full random or we do the Donald X method and pick 2-4 expansions and pick randomly from them.

General Discussion / Re: A joke thread

Best told in person, but my favorite:

A: "Wanna hear a knock-knock joke?"
(Unsuspecting) B: Sure!
A: OK, you start!
I used to love that one till it backfired on me.
It went something like this:
A: "OK, you start!"
B: "knock-knock"
A: "who's there?"
B: "John"
A: "John who?"
B: "John Pags"
A: .........? (how the heck did this ball end up back in my court?)

Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / Re: What is your favorite Dark Ages card ?
« on: September 04, 2012, 05:21:34 pm »
Market Square for sure

It may not be a power $5 but I have been amazed at how consistantly usefull it is.  In most of the games I have played with it where there is dependable trashing I have simply ignored buying money altogether as I gain pleny of golds from it.  As a cantrip it can never hurt my deck and gives me all the +buys I need to build my engine.

I suppose I am somewhat biased as I have been playing kindoms with a heavy Dark ages ballance and thus a heavy emphasis on trashing.  I doubt it would be that good where there is no good consistant source of trashing, but when there are do not overlook!

Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / Re: Modified Golden Deck
« on: September 03, 2012, 05:18:00 pm »
Just played a game IRL where the kingdom was selected randomly and was able to quickly build the modified golden deck.  Just 8 cards and every turn without fail I got 12 VP.  The game finally ended on piles with me having 101 VPs!

For support I used Market Square (quickly becoming my new favorite $3) to gain golds as I Bishoped my deck (and gained a good number of gold from trashing during my opponent's Bishop plays) and used the +buys to quickly buy my engine parts.  Towards the end I was voluntarily trashing my golds when a Bishop was played (you should have seen the puzzled look on their faces the first time I did that) just to quickly get down to the essential 8 cards.  The other players caught just a little too late but were still able to rack up about 80 points each by game end.

Rules Questions / Re: Overgrown Estate & Market Sqare
« on: September 01, 2012, 04:47:17 pm »
My thought was this:

1.  Both effects (drawing a card, and discarding the MS for gold) are both triggered by precisely the same exact event, the trashing of the OE.
2. This would lead me to believe that because these two effects are triggered by the exact same event that I can choose to resolve them in any order.
3. Thus I could choose to draw first then reveal and discard both my MSs.

Rules Questions / Overgrown Estate & Market Sqare
« on: September 01, 2012, 02:39:16 pm »
Sorry to overload the forums with rules questions for things that are probably obvious to most but here is another one I could use help with:

I trash my overgrown estate with a MS in my hand. What order do I resolve the events in if I want to discard my MS?

What happened IRL (potentially wrongly) was that I chose to resolve the OE first and drew a card.  The thing is that the card I drew was another MS.  Can I now discard them both and gain two gold or have I missunderstood the order to resolve effects in?

Rules Questions / Counterfeit, copper, & Grand Market
« on: September 01, 2012, 02:04:30 pm »
I'm pretty sure I understand this correctly, but my wife wanted me to confirm:

If I counterfeit my only copper in play it goes to the trash before the restriction on purchasing Grand Markets is applied.  Thus when I purchase the GM I have in fact no coppers 'in play.'

Rules Questions / Re: Farmland & Overgrown Estate

Thanks for the responce.

Yes, I did mean 'draw'.  Wouldn't the drawing of the card and the gaining of the Tunnel be simultaneous events and thus resolvable in any order she chooses?

Rules Questions / Farmland & Overgrown Estate
« on: August 31, 2012, 09:22:09 pm »
Just played a game where my wife bought a Farmland and then trashed her Overgrown Estate to gain a Tunnel.  Now can she stil gain a card as a result of trashing OE and if so what if anything can she do with it since she has already played her coin in the buy phase?

Got mine delivered Saterday.  Really enjoying it, still feel like I have no clue what to do with most of the cards.  But having lots of fun learning!

In a recent game we were playing four player and the player after me played smuggler and then asked me what I had gained on my turn.  They had forgotten (it was a a friendly/casual game with interruptions from children ect.)  I did not press the issue in that game, but it did bring the question to my mind: must I inform them what I bought/gained?
Yes. All else is madness.
Indeed!  And an irritated wife to boot! (which is never a good idea  ;) )

And can I just say how cool it is that the creator of this game answers questions like this!  Thank you very much Donald for answering my question.

22
I agree, it would be pretty sticklerish not to tell (and after a bit of friendly razzing I did in fact tell my wife  ;D ). But I was currious about an official ruling.

Thanks for your responses.

If not then what happens? Do they get to guess?

If this is already a discussed issue you can just link me to the thread.

Thanks!
