Well, I might not be a top 3 player any more like in early 2012, but I've learned most of the new cards now, and this old man can still throw some cards around!

As you can see, I play pretty sporadically, but it tends to go pretty well when I do play. Only a few more spots to reach the frontpage of the leaderboard, which I suppose will be my goal for next couple times I play, whenever that may be.

Hey guys,

It's been quite a while since I've visited this place, but some of you might remember me. I used to be a top ranked player on Isotropic in 2012 or so, more or less quitting the game once that was shut down. I played a bit with Dark Ages, at least enough to recognize the cards these days, but everything released after DA is essentially new to me.

I recently kinda got back into playing, and oh my is it hard to play optimally when you only know half the cards!

Anyway, I'd appreciate some input on how the way the game is being played has changed in the last ~3-4 years. If you wouldn't mind, I'd also be interested in hearing your thoughts on how best to learn playing well with these latest expansions. Obviously my fundamentals are reasonably solid, but with a lot of rust and a lot of new knowledge requirements mixed in there. Reading the Articles on each card is probably a good start? Do you still do the card rankings you used to do back in the days? Seeing what new/unfamiliar cards are universally regarded as great (or really bad) would probably speed the process up.

Thanks for any tips, and maybe I'll see you at the table :)

Hi i mailed Fabian once and he answered that he has a uncertain schedule this week but might have some time tonight if im around( 19.9). If i remember correctly i was online this day until 22.30 but he wasnt online.   since then I dindt wrote him any messages but i looked for him beeing online in the forum every day and a lot. though he wasnt and he didnt wrote me a message as well.

I guess thats a tie

...you looked for me online but you never replied to my message? I figured you had forgotten about it or something.

Anyway I'm fine with a concession of whatever, but I'd be pretty annoyed if I was DQed out of future events because of this.

Thanks for the games jog. In game 6 in particular, I'm not very pleased with how I played. Around turn 3, a friend called me, and my attention was divided for the rest of the game to say the least. I felt like I drew really poorly, but honestly who knows. I probably didn't make a single correct decision in this game, but of course it's tough to know since it seemed pretty complex.

Some interesting games overall, a draw didn't seem unreasonable although I was definitely hoping for more after the nice start.

I mean, I like Chapel as much as (nearly, apparently) anyone, but it belongs in the same tier as Ambassador/Masquerade/Mountebank/etc, which is probably tier 1, at best.

Fabian 3 - 3 DG

Game 1: Fabian 4 - 9 DG
A Village/Torturer/etc game in which I go first. Feels like one of those games I would probably win if I was better at this game, maybe. I try to go for a bigger Torturer/etc chain than DG, and by the time my deck comes together, piles have run out and I'm behind. Probably pretty awfully played by me.

Game 2: Fabian x - 3 DG
Ambassador mirror. Probably the least interesting game, as Ambassador mirrors often turn out. First advantage is good, etc.

Game 3: Fabian 32 - 30 DG
A Swindler/etc game in which I go a little harder on the Knights pile, and those Knights do some very good work (trashing multiple Golds, among other things).

Game 4: Fabian 56 - 46 DG
A Feodum game with Trading Post, Steward and Ironworks as support. After we have 4 Feodum each, I get lucky with a Trading Post/Feodum/Feodum/x/x hand, and my superior economy allows me to buy a comfortable amount of Provinces.

Game 5: Fabian 45 - 24 DG
I open Trader/Silver with the idea of going mostly BM and denying DG some Caravans, which I consider the only good target for his Universities. I miss some Death Cart considerations, allowing him to regain some economy fairly quickly, but the game doesn't feel that close.

Game 6: Fabian 29 - 38 DG
Weird board where I play pretty bad. I had some hope of getting to Provinces after the Duchy/Duke fight was over, but as DG said after the game, "it rarely turns out that way". I made a few pretty bad decisions in the late game, but would have lost anyway at that point.

Overall, I think 3-3 feels like a pretty fair result, and it was a lot of fun playing DG, who is one of the people whose game I respect the most on this forum (Stef, Obi Wan, jonts, etc). I was also pretty happy turning 0-2 into 3-2, almost making a crazy comeback against of the greats. Also also, I was kinda drunk celebrating Sweden's only gold in the Athletics World Championships, so I guess that's all the more reason to be happy with a draw heh. Thanks for the games, and good luck in the next rounds!

How impossible would it be to add a feature to the chrome extension where, instead of displaying the Goko pro rating, you just display the isotropic drunkensailor leaderboard level, or something similar? Now that we have a real rating system, the Goko ratings somehow seem even more like a joke than usual.

Well, they look pretty similar to me. This TS thing has increased my faith in Goko's leaderboard rather than decreased it.

Well, losing ~5 games in a row won't shoot me from 5th to 30th place on the isotropic leaderboard, that's for sure.
Have you actually tested this?

Let's just say the other night when I posted it, I was #30 on the goko leaderboard and 12th or 13th on the isotropish.

The goko ratings are way way too swingy and hugely depend on your latest results. Of course, the best players tend to have had good results in the recent past too, but, you know.

I played him last week, unfortunately he didn't respond to my chatting. Then 10 turns in when I was crushing him, he had connection trouble and timed out 5 minutes later. Classy guy.

Pretty much just any excuse to make Goko completely into Isotropic would work for me.

To be fair, I've messaged RL friends on facebook or whatever to come play Dominion online a number of times, I must have played at least 150-200 games like that over the years.

You know, out of ~10k or whatever.

And, you know, on Isotropic, obviously. Who would do that on Goko lol.

The black screen issue and the creating-pro-games-even-when-casual-is-selected issue are fixed in the new version, which I've whimsically named "Goko Automatch 2."

Once you've your extension fully working, you should rename it "Goko 1.0".

While we're on that, whatever happened to the plans of that greasemonkey script to recreate the UI of Isotropic?

I like the ring of "Isotropic 2.0" quite a bit more.

Kirian, now that this has finally been brought to their attention, I'm sure we'll see a non-laughable lobby system up by the end of the weekend.

While I certainly haven't put as much thought into this as some of you other guys have, you know, Awaclus suggestion doesn't seem half bad to me.

21
Any chance you could add the "games played" to the leaderboard?

Very nice overall.

Don't forget manzi at worlds, although the communication was somewhat limited there.

WM seems sweet for sure, but WV is very very good. That's about the most useful analysis avaliable.

Can really only be Noble Brigand or Outpost I think.

Edit: And knowing WW, I know where I'm putting my money.
