Burning Skulls's "How to Base Dominion" series help me boost my skill level pretty quickly. It's a crash course on how to play Engine games.

Yes it says it decreases the probability of the card being chosen.

But on my first 3 plays after this my two disliked cards both turned up once.

They were
Sauna as it seems to be the one way (althoughif only one person goes for it it might be OK
Feodum as I can't see itr being useful. *although I did have a game with masterpiece and other players did not understand the cards so I emptied the silver pile before buying any :(

Trader + Feodum is crazy good. But it's hard to get both cards in the same kingdom, statistically.

Dislike:

Lurker: annoying political card, you buy it just because the opponent did so you both don't use it. Has some 3-pile shenanigans potential but it usually just sucks.
Governor: monopolizes the game too much and is luck-based. Not banning because I suppose I have to get better at using it, but I hate it.
Urchin: can't remember a single card that's so reliant on getting the right stuff early, and isn't that fun to play with anyway (too much handsize reducing)
Keep: I dislike counting cards and how political this card also is, you buy bad cards just so the opponent has less of them.
Defiled Shrine: also a very political card that often punishes players for having good hands.

Ban:

Sauna: often it's bad, but when it's good, merely touching any of the other 9 piles is game-throwing. I've played enough Sauna games for a lifetime, they are all identical.

I'll add more if I come up with them. Also I've never played with Posession before so I wanna see it first before I decide if I hate it.

That's me with gainers, cost reduction, or anything that escapes the traditional "build an engine, hit 16" meta. It's always me playing that meta while the opponent sets up a plan to gain 10 cards in a turn and swipe me, and I only realize it was possible when it was too late. TfB is just one of those types of games.

But when it's me getting those cards, it never works as smoothly.

Returning for next season. I played Season 33 and finished first place in Div E10. Should be moving to D if there's room in it.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Cards with the Best Flavour

Old Witch: her magic isn't as powerful anymore but she is more experienced and knows how to do more things.
Bureaucrat: delaying your deck with useless cards. Just what bureaucracy does!
Pirate Ship: send your ship on a raid, see what it brings back.
Grand Market: this place has the best products, but they won't even let you enter if you are a poor fellow who carries coppers.
Watchtower: watches and fires arrows at anything that tries to invade your kingdom.
Menagarie: the more different animals you have, the more people will come.
Cultist: joining a cult will ruin all your finances, and make you act as a mob to ruin other places.
Advisor: he has all the advices you need, but he will take the best ones for his own gain.
Bridge Troll: not as beautiful as the Bridge or fast like the Highway, but this bridge has a troll that will attack your enemies if they try to pass it.
Page: how a farmer got recruited, realized that war sucked, became a fugitive, then hid in a monastery but eventually became its master.
Fountain: throw a copper and something good will happen. Throw 10, and something great will!
Tragic Hero: he will fight for you, but make him fight too much and he will die tragically to give you a final gold.
Recruiter: someone needs to make your Pearl Divers and Vagrants join the army to become real men.
Fleet: you don't know if it will accomplish anything, but you send it. But one day, they will come back having colonized a few extra duchies.

I love internal game flavor that doesn't translate outside Dominion but has become engrained in our collective consciousness as reasonable nonetheless; e.g., the experience of being haunted is similar to putting things from your hand on top of your deck, or, locations where royalty are found allow you to repeat something you've already done.

Discard attacks are usually related to violence.
Cursing attacks are related to magic.
Trashing attacks are related to theft. Same for Spoils.
Trashing is related to religion, since you are donating your stuff.
Cards related to movement usually draw.

I think it's pretty obvious the lists are about strategy (just see the name of the forum lol), but for Landmarks it's pretty foggy because you don't really make a decision for them. If they are in the board, you are using them.

I guess by "fun" I mean a lot of stuff, like making the game more interesting strategically or making it unique. The "impact" thing is included in that. Generally, it's how much I enjoy seeing them in a board.

But I made those posts because I think it's good to make this clearer in the next Qvist rankings. Just like the Hexes one explained you are supposed to rank them in terms on how strong the attack is.

12
I rank landmarks based on fun factor. It's not like I have a choice to buy them or not so may as well apply the emotional criterium here.

Didn't see any mention of the word "impact" in the ranking thread either, so I wonder how many people actually know about that.

13
I propose we don't wait until next year, and he does his own versions for the write-ups for the other categories.

14
Just used Rats to win a game for the first time. The combo was with Raze.

When Raze trashes Rats it turns into some kind of stronger Hunting Party. Suddenly I was getting rid of my junk and drawing all my deck at once.

15
I've never used Possession but I've read enough about how it turns every game into an unplayable degenerate nightmare and it made sense to rank it #1. I mean, we rank Mountebank and Cultist high for the same reason and they are not that centralizing.

16
Outpost + Pageant

It's not much but it's a potential 2 free coffers per turn and that can become a lot, especially in a BM game.

17
Tax is like spending $2 and a buy now to make the opponent spend $2 later, in a way they can control to some extent. Not a great trade-off. At least Embargo's attack is stronger than the price you pay for it.

Granted if you have spare money and buy it's worth it, but still not a huge gain. And you have to guess what card the opponent will want, which cannot be a card that you want. And if you change your mind later, you are the one paying the debt.

People are comparing it to Pearl Diver but PD is pretty low, and doesn't have a chance of backfiring like Tax does.

18
I think Lackeys works very well on games where you already have some kind of + action but wish you had more. In those games, I notice the villagers pile only tends to go up as you buy more Lackeys.

It's like Nobles. It can't carry an engine but it offers engine grease by adding both Cards and Actions at once. The difference is that it's dirt cheap, while with Nobles you are paying extra for the VP.

I had Lackeys at #7 in my list. That said I'm kind of a newbie and my list is weird but Lackeys is a card I keep feeling is really good.

19
Ducat below CSM is pretty surprising to me. It's almost strictly better.

This. Are people really using Throne Room that much?

- Lord Rattington will always get Chapel on Turn 1. Always.

If it opens 5-2, it will buy Chapel with $5 and pass on Turn 2.

- Lord Rattington will always buy Tournaments like crazy. But it is incapable of buying prizes.

- Lord Rattington will always open Jack. Not Doublejack, just Jack.

- Lord Rattington doesn't know how to use Sentry. If you play a game of Base where Sentry is your only trasher, you've already won.

- Lord Rattington will always name Gold when you play Contraband. In games with Contraband, you can pretty much just buy it in the place of Gold, because LR will not prevent you from buying other things with it.

Ironworks + Experiment

Just get two or three Ironworks and start running your engine. The only limit is the fact there are only 10 experiments in the game.

I just got rekt by Silk Merchant + Upgrade. Insane token harvesting machine. Buy silvers, make SMs, get tokens, upgrade SMs into Upgrades, get more tokens. Also it had Innovation to use the Upgrades in the same turns, and City Quarter for extra draw. Before I knew it my opponent megaturn'd with a gazillion coffers/silvers and won.

23
Innovation-Artisan gives you a lot of possibilities.  Don't want that Seer to Innovate during your Buy phase?  Throw in a Coffer, and you can topdeck him instead.  And hey, now you have an Artisan too!  Next time you can gain another Seer during you Action phase, and he can Innovate if he wants to!  Stuck buying a Duchy?  $6, buy Artisan, gain a Duchy, topdeck a dead terminal or whatever.

Speaking of Artisan, I just won a game where I was planning to use Innovation with Workshop to do a Gardens rush. I said "planning" because my opponent resigned when I bought Innovation. But I think it would have been really powerful.

Question: can Sewers extra trashing trigger Priest bonus money?
Yes, but if you more precisely asked what you meant to, no. You play Priest. You get +$2. You trash a card. Sewers triggers and you trash a second card. Now Priest's "this turn when you trash +$2" becomes active. It wasn't active during either card trash.

Ok I think I understand but then it seems I may have found a bug in Dominion Online.

I bought Sewers, then played Priest, trashed a card, then Sewers activated and I trashed another card, but I didn't get any extra money. Only the initial $2 from Priest. So either it is a bug, or I'm not understanding the rules correctly.
Well this appears to be the number one rules question of the previewed cards.

Let's say you trash a Copper with Priest. You don't get the bonus +$2 for that - you haven't gotten to that part of the card yet. You get +$2, you trash Copper, and then "this turn, when you trash a card, +$2" turns on.

Let's say you also have Sewers. You trash a Copper with Priest. You get +$2, you trash Copper, Sewers lets you trash another card, and then "this turn, when you trash a card, +$2" turns on. You don't get the extra +$2 for Sewers, just like you didn't get it for the card that Priest itself trashed. Sewers happens in the middle.

Ok I get it now. Thanks!
