Dominion General Discussion / Re: D-Vault app updated for Dark Ages
« on: August 29, 2012, 09:34:18 am »
sadly none of them produce a black market deck...  I always use the real randomizer deck for it myself

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, Dominion Vault does produce a Black Market deck at either 15, 30, or all cards. The app I use (Dominion Adept) also produces a 15-card Black Market deck.

The App Store has glowing reviews for Dominion Vault, but is this the only randomizer app that supports Dark Ages?

I've been using Dominion Adept for the longest time, but I don't know when that app will be updated for Dark Ages cards.

The store from which I ordered informed me that they will be receiving their shipment of DA this week. I hope I get my copy early next week.

Also, for anyone interested, they have a deal for DA at $27 with $8 shipping: http://www.miniaturemarket.com/rgg481.html.

Man, if only I had time that afternoon. I too live in DC and was actually planning on meeting up with Young Nick in the morning, but logistics didn't pan out. Glad you guys had a great time. If you guys want a third (or possibly fourth) player next time, my roommate and I would be down to play some Dark Ages.

We're also planning on hosting a game night every two weeks or so.

Do we know when the rest of the set will be uploaded?

So this idea might be a bit out there, but since the title of the next expansion is Guilds, could it be possible for cards to have effects based on cards from previous expansions.

For instance,

Bankers' Guild
+$1 for every card from Prosperity in the supply.

How are you guys playing adventure mode? Is there a different URL for it or is it the same as the beta link they provided?

This has been brought up in other topics already, but the ability to lower the cost of a single card as opposed to all cards seems likely based on the Rules description for Band of Misfits.

Ah crap. Nevermind. HoP would be trashed when Counterfeited. I need to get used to these cards.

My idea would be to pick up Counterfeit first to start the trashing of coppers and whatnot. Pick up HoP next. Then Counterfeit the HoP to gain more non-victory card components since you won;'t be trashing that HoP.

Let's remember that you only trash the HoP when you gain a Victory card. So in essence, you can speed up the process with one HoP.

Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / Re: Counterfeit/Horn of Plenty

Be careful, though. Say you have Caravan, Spy, Village, Copper, Silver, Gold in play and you play Counterfeit. You choose to play Horn of Plenty with Counterfeit. You gain a Province because you have 8 differently-named cards in play. Then you trash Horn of Plenty. When you play Horn of Plenty the second time (via Counterfeit), you can only gain a card costing up to $7.

You play it twice BEFORE trashing it.

But if you gain a Victory card when playing Horn of Plenty the first time, Horn of Plenty trashes ITSELF immediately.

I'm sure this is explained somewhere - but it seems very weird to me that you can "play again" a card without it being "in play" when played.

It's the same idea as TR/KC a Feast or Mining Village.

If anything, more people would go for the HoP strategy if Counterfeit is on the board and you can play at least 9 different cards. With HoP on its own, you would have to get at least 4 or more for the glorious mega-turn (on top of opponent competition for the HoP). With Counterfeit, you can settle with just two HoPs and make sure you have all the other components.

Counterfeit a Counterfeit to counterfeit two Horns of Plenty sounds pretty good too.

Or just play both Counterfeits.  You achieve the same thing, without trashing one of your Counterfeits, and -$1.

D'oh. Right!

Counterfeit a Counterfeit to counterfeit two Horns of Plenty sounds pretty good too, which is what I think he meant.

For someone who has paid for all of the physical sets (DA is on the way), it seems like pricing would be an issue for me as well. Although paying for all of the expansions has been worth it, I might just stick to playing IRL if I have to drop another $60-$80 for an online app of a game I already own.

Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / Re: Band of Misfits rules questions
« on: August 17, 2012, 10:47:51 am »
Taken from DA Rules PDF on Rio Grande's website:

Band of Misfits: When you play this, you pick an Action card from
the Supply that costs less than it, and treat this card as if it were
the card you chose. Normally this will just mean that you follow
the instructions on the card you picked. So, if you play Band of
Misfits and Fortress is in the Supply, you could pick that and then
you would draw a card and get +2 Actions, since that is what
Fortress does when you play it. Band of Misfits also gets the
chosen card's cost, name, and types. If you use Band of Misfits as
a card that trashes itself, such as Death Cart, you will trash the
Band of Misfits (at which point it will just be a Band of Misfits
card in the trash). If you use Band of Misfits as a duration card
(from Seaside), Band of Misfits will stay in play until next turn,
just like the duration card would. If you use Band of Misfits as a
Throne Room (from Dominion), King's Court (from Prosperity),
or Procession, and use that effect to play a duration card, Band of
Misfits will similarly stay in play. If you use Throne Room, King's
Court, or Procession to play a Band of Misfits card multiple times,
you only pick what to play it as the first time; the other times it is
still copying the same card. For example, if you use Procession to
play Band of Misfits twice and choose Fortress the first time, you
will automatically replay it as Fortress, then trash the Band of
Misfits, return it to your hand (it is a Fortress when it's trashed,
and Fortress has a when-trashed ability that returns it to your
hand), and gain an Action card costing exactly ( more than
Band of Misfits, which has left play and so is no longer copying
Fortress). If you use Band of Misfits as a card that does something
during Clean-up, such as Hermit, it will do that thing during
Clean-up. When you play Horn of Plenty (from Cornucopia), it
counts Band of Misfits as whatever Band of Misfits was played as;
for example if you play a Band of Misfits as a Fortress, and then
play another Band of Misfits as a Scavenger, and then play Horn
of Plenty, you will gain a card costing up to . Band of Misfits can
only be played as a card that is visible in the Supply; it cannot be
played as a card after its pile runs out, and cannot be played as a
non-Supply card like Mercenary; it can be played as the top card
of the Ruins pile, but no other Ruins, and can only be played as Sir
Martin when that is the top card of the Knights pile.

I do have a minor rules question about Knights. Can all 10 go into the Black Market deck? My guess is yes because they all have different names.

Yes, according to the card description of Knights: http://riograndegames.com/uploads/Game/Game_421_gameRules.pdf. Although unless you have a Black Market randomizer of your own (and not use the blue-back cards), it seems like only one random knight is getting in. At least that's how I read it.

Young Nick, my roommates and I are in DC and would gladly play with you. I just ordered our copy, but it won't arrive until next week.

20
What is the purpose of the "generic" Knights card?  Is it just for directions and discarded when playing?

Randomizer.

Urchin mentions the Mercenary pile. Excited to see these.

22
I believe we're still missing 6 cards.

Mercenaries?

23
They're there now.

I am kind of disappointed that you can not possibly play a BoM like it was a BoM. :>

Yeah, but then it could be a never-ending action. And there's this:

I guess the "This is that card" clause on BoM clears up the HoP question.
