Card costs are only loosly correlated with card power. Mostly they are correlated with "would having too many of them be overpowered in the opening?".

Vassal almost always misses unless you've taken the time to trash most of your starting cards, which normally takes several turns. So starting with an extra one doesn't change the game that much; if vassal is the best card on the board probably the player who trashes first wins even if they lose the split.

Conspirator on the other hand just needs "a few cantrips" in your deck to start hitting, which you could easily have as soon as the second shuffle. So it costs 4 to prevent you from getting too many too fast.


...also in my experience vassal sucks at first, then is awesome after trashing, then sucks again as soon as you start greening. But maybe that's just me, I'm not top ranked or anything.

The first 2 times I played with Inherited it was Rats. (The first time Broker was in the kingdom with League of Bankers as the ally so I was very happy to start with rats, the second time I never played it.)

FAQ: you reveal this after they finish playing the card that made them draw (or reveal from the top of their deck, or whatever else made them shuffle), or after they finish clean up if they shuffled to draw their next hand. This will be after they trigger any effects on their shuffle, like putting a card on top with Order of Astrologers - but they will still draw the card they put on top.
Cards you leave on top can go back in any order.

(Unfortunately, I told this to my kids, and now we play with this almost every game... It was clever the very first game. And only that game.)

This came up in a game I played against Lord Rattington recently and I was too busy thrashing him to notice that this was possible until after the game:

Gain the entire Wish pile in a single turn.

I've thought of multiple solutions so I added some "hard modes", which I spoilered to keep from giving hints:
No villages/splitters.
No returning to your action phase. (My kingdom had this + only Trusty Steed as a splitter which is really no splitters.)
No landscapes.
All of the above - I haven't found a way to do this though, I can do any 2 but not all 3.

Bonus puzzle: If there were unlimited copies of wish how many can you gain in a single turn? I can get to 65 given perfect shuffle luck but I bet someone can do better.

Groom + band of nomads (when the liason is something that lets you get a lot of favors, bauble in my game)

(Conclave was a pretty effective village with horses that game, and bishop helped trim out all those extra action cards for points - neither of those would have let me win without using groom as a village)

Goons was the best engine payload in the game.

Collection is weaker, but also easier to get and play.

Not sure which is "better" but seems like Collection is relevant in more games. Plus goons BM was not a fun strategy (especially if one person locked the other out of getting one with the attack.)

I like Collection better - while Goons was powerful (and the watchtower goons combo was fun to pull off in the ONE game I ever got to do it in - but my opponent just sat there and was bored - he never let me play with that combo in the kingdom again) I never really thought it was fun.

I think it was a good choice to replace Goons with something this crazy. I might actually buy the update pack just for this card. (I buy about 1 expansion per year, that's about how often I get to play, more than that and I never really get comfortable with the new cards before there are more new cards.)

The trap works better if you roll up some paper into a cone leaving only a small hole in the center (say 3mm) and put it over the vinegar point down.

I might forget a couple which is why I didn't try to list them, but tokenables includes anything that can get a +, and also cost reduction (-2 cost token) trashing (trashing token), setting aside (Inheritance token), put on X mat, gain a Curse (embargo token - I forgot about this one in my last post, so witch and moat arent the same) - basically a subset of mechanics but determined by what the card does rather than by what words are on the card so that it's no longer the case that all Actions are orange.

Yep, that was it :)

I'm changing Mechanics to "tokenables" to simplify it just a bit - If there's a mat for it or a token for it, it's a thing. The token version and the non token version aren't the same, though. So Throne Room and Sea Hag would be the same, and Moat and Witch would be the same.

My guess is Marauder.
