I had a game where I kept trashing that Castle that is an action card where if you trash it, you can a castle. (Not sure what the name is.)

How do you can a castle?
It's Small Castle

How do you can Small Castle?

Capitalism + Harvest
Harvest is a great card with Capitalism. It is usually a Gold, but only costs $3. In games with Knights, Castles or Travellers, it often gives you amazing $4. Merchant Ship is similar by the way. It works actually like a Silver and two delayed Peddlers.

Usually Harvest costs $5......

This made me think that perhaps the correct result is the only result that would not yield a contradiction in this way. If that were true and you could somehow prove it to be true, then the tautological proof of sin' = cos would actually become a legit proof.

This definitely cannot work without an independent argument showing that sin is differentiable.

For comparison, you can often argue that if a given sequence approaches a limit, then the limit has a certain value. In some cases, this will in fact be the correct limit, while in others the limit will not actually exist.

Rules Questions / Re: Pilgrimage With Split Piles
« on: September 18, 2018, 09:18:13 am »
Yeah, I don't think there are other cards like this, where you choose several cards first, then gain them. But Dz is right; you choose the order. So it would be dumb to choose to gain Plunder before Encampment.

Edge case: you remembered after choosing your 3 cards, but before gaining them, that Wolf Den was in the game.
How is this an edge case? You need to have copies of Plunder and Encampment in your deck already in order to be able to choose them...
They are actually in your opponents deck. You bought Pilgrimage while Possessing them.

This seems correct. The Estate token doesn't actually go on a pile, but rather on a set-aside card, so it shouldn't interfere with Teacher.

Here's a pretty easy one, with at least two different solutions:

Using only the five cards in my starting hand (i.e. no Duration effects or Reserves), I manage to buy a Province and a Duchy, as well as Curse my opponent four times.  How?
Hand is KC, Mountebank, Familiar, 2 * Capital

EDIT: 4-card solution: KC, Mountebank, Royal Carriage, Capital.

Replace a Capital with Fortune and you can get Colony + Duchy even.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Plotting cards with DATA

Observation #2: Warehouse and Oasis cluster with the trashers. I guess the point is that they help you deal with junk cards in your deck. But Warehouse and Oasis are fairly neutral in component 3. The positive end of component 3 is clearly actual trashing. I very much don't understand what the negative end of component 3 means. trivialknot suggests "cards that are best in thin decks" but that doesn't match my understanding of Thief and Bureaucrat, which are among the most negative in component 3. I can't think of a card property that is most exhibited by the pair of cards Thief and Outpost. They both often gain you mediocre cards?

Observation #1: It's nice to see Throne Room and Ironmonger clearly identified by component 1 as sitting among the villages, although neither card says "+2 actions" on it. Ironmonger seems to cluster with the nonterminal draw though instead of the villages (if I understand the color coding correctly), which is also reasonable.

Could you make the pictures larger so that the labels are not all on top of each other? It's very hard to read the names of the cards now.

In a kingdom with no black market, reserves, or durations except tactician, I play 3 action cards on my turn, the first of which is a tactician. What events are in the kingdom?

Summon is enough with Bridge or Highway, so that you can Summon a Tactician and 2 other actions.

It's kinda sad that it doesn't work with cost reduction (other that Bridge Troll and Ferry)
Unfortunately, if bridge troll is in the kingdom, you have strong incentive to not get the cobbler since the bridge troll already gives you two more discounted buys.

I'm skeptical of this part. It seems like Cobbler that can gain 5 costs would be very strong? In particular, you could use it to gain more Bridge Trolls.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Labs
« on: March 11, 2018, 05:34:44 pm »
Stables - I was definitely confused to see this higher than Lab in the new list. It's better than Lab if you can't trash your Coppers, but most of the time you can and should. The fact that this relies on treasures gives two ways it can dud: You can either draw a hand with all treasures or draw Stables with no treasures. Lab's consistency will beat it most of the time, I think.

I think part of the reason here is that Stables is much better than Lab in the early/mid-game when you are still building and trashing down. It cycles you much faster and will pretty much never dud early on. You shouldn't evaluate a card solely by how good it is in an already smoothly running engine.

Wait, now I'm confused. I thought that if I played BoM as say Militia and then played Changeling, I would gain a Militia. But it sounds like people are saying I should gain a BoM instead?

Rules Questions / Re: Crumbling/Haunted Castle and Aqueduct
« on: December 07, 2017, 10:02:20 am »
That sounds like the right interpretation, so this would be a bug online. It's funny because with Harem I think the client still asks whether you want first to move the (non-existent) tokens from Harem to Aqueduct or to gain the Aqueduct points.

Level 1+2 solution:

Hand: Dismantle, Catacombs, 3x Feodum

Dismantle Catacombs for 2x Changeling + Cemetary. On Cemetary gain, trash 3x Feodum for 9x Changeling.

Dominion FAQ / Re: Maximum Possible VP?

[...] gain an arbitrary amount of VP.
π is pretty arbitrary, as are -1, i, φ, e, sqrt(2) and Chaitin's constant :P

An arbitrary positive real integer, happy?  Also, π as a number is not at all arbitrary.

Better to say "rational" rather than "real" to make clear you aren't in a number field: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_of_integers.

I don't think most people can move their fingers independantly.

Really? How do you type on a keyboard if that's the case?

Who needs fingers?

To trash/return one-shots.

I usually turn them face down but keep them in my play area until cleanup. That way I can 1) not forget I played them and 2) not forget to put them where they actually belong at end of turn.

Not without cost reduction...

Dominion: Nocturne Previews / Re: Previews #5: Exorcist, Pixie, Vampire
« on: October 27, 2017, 11:42:58 am »
I think Exorcist is close in power to a 2-card trasher in the opening. It (usually) kills an Estate and gives a Will-o-Wisp, which (usually) draws you an extra Copper, so it is almost as if you are two cards thinner.

That's a bit of an exaggeration, but then you can also exchange your early Silver(s) for Imp(s) at some point. Overall, I think Exorcist should be quite solid.

To expand on Mic's point: the endomorphism is not itself a matrix. Once you pick a basis for your vector space, you get to write down a matrix that represents your endomorphism with respect to your basis. If you pick a different basis, you have to write down a different matrix for the same endomorphism.

You just mean you have a vector space with the standard basis and you want to rewrite the elements in terms of a different linear basis? If so, then the word polar has nothing to do with this.
