This is the card picker I use:
I find it to be far and away the best. Play around with this a bit and see if you get something cool.

I likewise thought it was a good article, good to see a lot more time and effort invested in the forums lately.

I often violate the Penultimate Province Rule because I think my opponent probably doesn't have 8 and I don't want to play through a dragged-out, increasingly sloggish game. I usually regret this.

Death or Glory!

Is it considered rude when people leave the table immediately after I win without saying gg? It always seems a bit rude to me.

Whenever I play against my wife, I feel really guilty when I put together a big turn. I don't she means to make me feel bad, but it happens. Doesn't usually stop me though.

Reminds me of a 4-player game where no one was paying attention through my long turns. I basically had to say "hey guys, pay attention this time" because I was going to do a bunch of Upgrade tricks and end the game (and no one else realized we were even close to that point yet).
I hate it when nobody pays attention.  Sucks the fun out of the game.

My dad asserts Scrying Pool turns aren't half bad if you bring along a book.

I used to never buy Sentry, but it is actually kinda good. Trashing from the top of your deck does not keep you from buying cards on a turn you trash, and sifting is handy at a point in the game where many trashers become obsolete.

Edit: 1000th post.

It will be a normal size expansion.

It will contain cards.

At least one of the cards will have the word "Action" on it.

Most of the cards will have "Dominion" on the reverse.

Not if the a future Dominion expansion uses dice!

It will likewise contain meeples, a spinner and monopoly money.

Each of us only had one Sea Hag.

Ah yes, the Sea Hag Knock-out.

I think you have a lot of good points here. "Depends on the Kingdom" plus all the edgecases leads to really useless advice. When some new player asks a specific question, they don't want to hear about the one crazy time where the advice you gave them is not useful.

glhf is fine, why do people complain about glhf? They can't all be the best salutation ever.

This thread has one of the highest respect/post ratios on f.ds.
So I should post here to get more respect. Right?

You'd think so, wouldn't you?

Because it's polite?  Because it's good sportsmanship?  Because playing a good game is more important than winning?  Because you can cheer on your opponent if they're playing better than you are?  Because you're not a spiteful, narcissistic asshole that wallows in their own filth demanding that they win everything?

I mean, I dunno.

This thread has one of the highest respect/post ratios on f.ds.

I say it because I want the game to be a game of skill, decided by our strategies and clever ploys, rather than by blind chance. "Let the best man win".

There have been several boards where I ignored Fortune lately. It's good boosting economy, but City Quarter is a crazy good engine card. You draw everything and get all the actions.

Fortune is not good for boosting economy, it's one of the strongest payloads in the game. If it's an engine board, you can ignore Fortune basically only if Bridge or Bridge Troll is in it, and even then it's not obviously the case that you should.

Without trashing, City Quarter is hardly as good as Village. It doesn't enable an engine if an engine wasn't already possible.

This is among the hollowest of statements. Village doesn't enable an engine unless an engine was already possible. Smithy doesn't enable an engine unless an engine was already possible. Highway doesn't enable an engine unless an engine was already possible. See, I can do this all day.

City Quarter is not good with no trashing whatsoever. Correct, it is not always good. When it is good, it's generally much better than Lost City - of similar draw power to Scrying Pool or Madman. That's certainly more valuable than Grand Market's ceiling, and it certainly works on boards as the only way to increase handsize, and sometimes as the only Village, if other conditions are right. It is an engine component, which is not an entire engine by itself, but it can be the key Village and/or draw card, so the entire engine doesn't need to be there like you say.

We have all drawn City Quarter with no action cards. Plus if your action density is high enough to really draw a lot, you could be using something else for draw.

Don't bother much with Donate (an Event from Empires). It's basically the new Chancellor :p

btw Chancellor is also gone.

Also, it seems to systematically spend all the Spoils it has in hand, even those it doesnít need to spend.

That's usually a good idea, actually. It's good to get rid of those stop cards.

Are you sure? Can you elaborate on that, please?

The AI is actually way ahead of us strategically, it will take some time to figure out the nuances of its tactics.

Villa with Messenger and Counting House.  You use your Messenger to discard your deck, then if you have a Counting House in hand, you buy a Villa, play the Villa, then play the Counting House and pick up all your Coppers.  Also when you buy Messengers, you can pick up an extra Copper for yourself and give one to your opponent, who probably doesn't want it.

This is actually genius. I want to try this.

The theme of Dominion is a veneer only slightly thicker than graphene.  Trying to say that these cards don't fit thematically is a bit silly.

Right. I mean, the range of eras represented by the cards is quite large. What cards best represent the two extreme ends of this range? Which is the most "primitive" card and which is the most "advanced?"

Dominate shows Vercingetorix laying his weapons down in front of Caesar, which happened 52 B.C. Be my guest to find the other extreme.

My first thought was Navigator, which features a sextant. I think that puts it somewhere in the late 17th or early 18th century.

Rebuild looks very modern to me.
