Geologist - Action, $5 cost.
The player to your left names a type. Reveal your hand. +5 Cards less 1 for each card in your hand with the named type. If they named Action or Treasure, +1 Action.
You get a nice draw card of some description most of the time, with some situations where it's particularly bad or good.
A poor opponent to one's left and time to resolve might be issues. As might '+5 Cards less 1'; should it be 'draw 5 cards less 1' to be clearer you don't always draw 5 cards?

Use "minus" instead of "less". "Less" makes no grammatical sense, and reducing the amount of something you gain is often a bit akward, especially when drawing cards. Maybe use "Set aside 5 cards from the top of your deck (face down). The player to your left names a card type. Reveal your hand. For each revealed card with the named card type, discard one of the set aside cards. Put the rest into your hand." I feel like +1 action as a bonus is way too strong on a drawing card, and it creates a lot of variation between different decks. Maybe it is actually balanced, but it doesn't seem super fun playing this and drawing no cards. Maybe the bonus should be if you draw less than 2 cards. Its greatly varying drawing power makes it unreliable and oftern unviable in engines.

Dominion General Discussion / Duration ":" or ","
« on: July 21, 2019, 03:07:21 pm »
Noticed some durations use a colon for separating "next turn" from that effect, others just a comma. Is there a rule behind it, which one got choosen? Am i right assuming there is no additional or hidden meaning in in each case?

Someway related: Noticed in wiki Hirelings "+1 card" is set in own line (similar to e.g. Market). Until now i had the impression, the effects are told in whole sentences, so  why here not?

Rules Questions / Re: "next hand" defined?
« on: June 14, 2017, 07:14:56 pm »
So for a practical example, if you buy Expedition and then Villa, and then play Minion (for the discard option) after you return to your action phase, then no, you do NOT draw 2 extra cards when you draw 4 cards from Minion. You will draw 2 extra cards (7 total normally) when you cleanup at the end of this turn.

Thanks for the quick answer. The example is exactly what get discussed here. Luckily the majority has agreed on just that ruling.

Rules Questions / "next hand" defined?
« on: June 14, 2017, 06:21:42 pm »
Is the phrase next hand defined being the cards drawn at end of turn for next turn only? Or is any set of cards drawn to an empty hand a "next hand"? E.g. is the hand resulting from Minion discard a "next hand"?

Rules Questions / When gets "trashed" cards in Possession turn discarded?
« on: September 28, 2016, 08:33:52 am »
Does in an extra turn from Possession cards, which are "trashed" aka "set aside", get discarded during normal Clean-up before drawing next hand or after, because ony then it is turns end?

Rules Questions / Prince + loose track
« on: August 07, 2016, 03:10:27 pm »
Does Prince loose track of the Action, if it leaves play before Clean-up, although that Action got played again? I assume so, but seek confirmation:

played Fortress from Prince
trashed that Fortress with Bon Fire
bought Villa
played that Fortress

Does that Fortress gets set aside again? I assume no. By instinct i would say loose track applies.

Rules Questions / Re: Either (Triumphal Arch)
« on: July 24, 2016, 01:18:26 pm »
so 7xA, 4xB, 4xC = 2*4*3 = 24, but Wiki says 12, indicating 1*4*3.

I'm really confused by this.
So was i.

I was thinking if both of the ties count then its the sum of them which gives each 3 VPs.

"both are equivalent / acceptable". You pick either one of the cards in a tie.

Thanks a lot

Rules Questions / Either (Triumphal Arch)
« on: July 24, 2016, 12:58:25 pm »
Have difficulties with "either" when a tie with Triumphal Arch: Dictionary translate that to "both", so 7xA, 4xB, 4xC = 2*4*3 = 24, but Wiki says 12, indicating 1*4*3. Which is correct?

Rules Questions / Inheritance + Tribute
« on: March 18, 2016, 07:47:09 am »
Checking, wether we did it right after some lenghty discussion:

When after playing a Tribute the left reveals an Estate, which got inherited, then the Tribute player get +2 cards, +2 actions?

Did not occur, but came up in the discussion: If the other revealed card is the original action, then +4 actions total, becuase they are still different cards?

Rules Questions / Poor House and -1$ token
« on: September 21, 2015, 07:42:28 am »
Do i see it right: When the -1$ token lays in front of me and i play Poor House, i get only +3$ and continue from there with treasures check?

Rules Questions / Re: A timing question
« on: April 24, 2015, 04:36:19 pm »

... "when x happens" starts a time period in which all "when x happens" things can resolve, including new ones that come up during that time period, ...

Thank you very much. That is a KISS sentence, making all questions, examples and "think of it this way" superfluous. If only that sentence could be read in the rules.

Basically, whenever something happens, triggers that trigger from that thing happening can keep triggering from it until they're all done triggering.

?????

OK, lets ask other way: I would have guessed, that you look at the start of your turn, wether there are cards, which claim"resolve me now". If there are more than one, you make a list of them. Then you resolve them. And only them already on the list. If a NEW card could make it to the list due to the resolving, it is to late for those.

The whole thread seems to claim, that that there is special phase "At the start of your turn" before the standard action phase. And if anything in resolving during that phase results in new "at the start of your turn" cards, then those can / must be resolved also. Did i deduce that right?

Rules Questions / Re: A timing question

if my Prince plays my Throne Room, and I choose to TR a Guide, then after playing and resolving it twice, I can call it from the Tavern mat afterwards. So the Guide was placed on the Tavern mat in the beginning of my turn, and since it's still the beginning of my turn, I can call it right away. It was of course not on the Tavern mat when I started resolving effects that happen in the beginning of my turn.

I do not understand this. Is "at the start of your turn" not the moment, the player to my right finished his turn? How can something, that happened after that moment, be also "start of turn"?

If you play your Estate Map, you can trash a TMap from your hand, but you still won't find anything because you did not trash two TMaps.
Does "another copy of treasure map" refers back "trash this" to be also a treasure map?
I don't think so, but:

Quote
Trash this and another copy of Treasure Map from your hand. If you do trash two Treasure Maps, gain 4 Gold cards, putting them on top of your deck.
Ah, OK. Thanks.
