MORE ENGLISH-LANGUAGE CARD* NAME TRIVIA:

The chemical element whose name appears in the names of the most Dominion cards has a symbol on the periodic table that appears in the name of only one Dominion card.

From memory, (no looking it up on the periodic table or Dominion card lists) name that card.

*Or card-shaped things, as always.

Dominion Online at Shuffle iT / Logs
« on: April 27, 2020, 03:21:52 pm »
At various times there have been huge online resources of Dominion game logs. Is this still the case at all? It did always seem to good to be true.

I'm asking because I'm interested in gathering data from a large set of game logs. (I'm actually only interested in Kingdoms and endgame states, if that matters.)

This quarantine - and not being able to play tennis - has made me rediscover old hobbies. According to this board, I haven't logged on here since 2014.

Tennis is literally one of the last things you can do! Because it’s played at such distance.

At least, it’s still permitted in LA.

If you play mastermind1 on turn1...

then on turn2, use mastermind1 it to play mastermind2 thrice...

then on turn3, use mastermind2 to play mastermind3 thrice...

... is mastermind1 supposed to stay out until turn 4?
Yes. If we replace mastermind1 with a Throne Room, the Throne Room also stays out; Throne-type cards played on Durations stay out as long as the Duration. Similarly a Throned Archive keeps the Throne out until the Archive is used up, and a Throned Hireling keeps the Throne out forever.

I know a throneroom variant stays out with the duration it's been played for, but in this case, mastermind1 wasn't played on mastermind3.

True, but it played mastermind2 which is still out (because it, in turn, played mastermind3). Since mastermind2 is still out, mastermind1 stays out.

Is it possible to have a Masterminded Mastermind to start every turn indefinitely in every kingdom in which Mastermind appears? I'm having difficulty wrapping my mind around it.

Can you name the Dominion Cards and Card-Type-Things that contain these letter strings?

Start the game with a cost-reducer in play so Young Witch can be its own bane!

Relatable.

BEST: Peasant line.
I love the way the card art combines with the mechanics and the card names to create this sweeping narrative that implies so much about the "world" of Dominion. The idea that life in this reality imparts a wisdom, through suffering, that can then be imparted to a Wandering Minstrel, or to a whole Village, is clearly the master narrative that contains the rest of the "story of Dominion."

WORST: Bag of Gold.
Hold on. If it costs an action to take a piece of gold out of the bag, doesn't that imply that Gold is never, otherwise, stored in bags -- or in containers of any kind? That everyone in the world of Dominion is wandering around with all of their gold held in their hands at all times? Absolutely absurd.

Small Castle is “trash this or a Castle in your hand.” So I believe there are 4VP up for grabs.

It also gains you the other Small Castle, though. And Colonnade is when-buy, not when-gain.

Good point.

Putting a single card in the Black Market deck is like stacking the boons deck. The true solution should be implicit in the kingdom.

I think this is another 2VP solution: with Cemetery and no gainers/buys, the only time you can gain multiple cards in a turn is to trash Haunted Mirror to gain Ghost.

Totally. In that case each player can gain 2VP. I'm also looking for one where there are 2 or more players but only one player can gain 2VP.

Several Monument cards start the game with 12 VP chips on them, to be gained under certain circumstances. However, in some kingdoms it is impossible to gain anys.

Across all possible Kingdoms, what is the smallest non-zero maximum number of VP chips it is possible to gain off of one of these cards?

Oh, for the 2p, 12VP puzzle, I can get it down to2VP by replacing Blessed Village with Cursed Village and putting two of Plague, Locusts, and Greed on the bottom of the Hex deck.

I'm still trying to find a solution to this that doesn't involve stacking the Boons or Hexes deck, but that only allows a single player a single gain of 2 VP off of Colonnade or Labyrinth. Why? I don't know.

One thing that Menagerie has opened up is a solution where only one "player" can gain all the chips, while the other is locked out.

Can anyone find that solution? Or come up with an alternate one that only permits a single gain of 2 VP and no more?

I've been thinking about a Transmogrify deck that changes coppers into Ruined Markets, and then trashes the Ruins into Poor Houses, etc, with Overlord as Procession and then Overlord as Mining Village... not sure if it would work, but pure zen...

Puzzles and Challenges / Slowest trashing kingdom
« on: September 24, 2019, 07:20:10 pm »
This is a space to consider some solitaire Kingdoms where it is possible to trash your whole deck, but only very slowwwwwly over numerous turns. Even with shuffle luck and play that would seem to enable a frantic pace, this kingdom takes its time.  We are looking for a kingdom that forces us to take our time, against our own instinct.

For example, a kingdom with Raze.  If you open Raze, Raze, and draw both Razes with 2 Estates on Turn 3, you could trash both Estates, cycle through the deck to draw both Razes again on Turn 4, and trash your whole deck by Turn 8 or so.

Could we slow that down at all?  Adding Tax doesn't seem to help.  Adding Shelters might but they are only included at random as long as there is one card not in Dark Ages, so, with shuffle luck working against us, we can't guarantee Shelters.  Maybe having Raze in the kingdom simply makes it too fast.  Or maybe 8 turns the slowest trashing we can get.

This is a puzzle, but also a meditation space.

Go at your own pace. There are no correct answers here. Enlightenment is not a competition.

Mandarin

I may or may not have used regular expressions to solve this.

Ah, I wondered if there were some kind of thing like that.  I checked all the card names one at a time.  (I considered adding the extra challenge of trying to solve it from memory...)

There's actually a FOURTH card, though, that can similarly be completely expressed using the postal abbreviations for US states.  But I doubt any computer program can find this one.

What card am I thinking of?

Did anyone ever solve the fourth card?

Three Dominion card names (including events, etc.) can be completely spelled by stringing together the postal abbreviations for US states.

One is MINE.  MI = Michigan; NE = Nebraska.

What are the other two?  For the purposes of this question, ignore spaces in card names.

Yes.

Kingdom needs Black Market, Watchtower, Rogue, Mandarin, Storyteller, Capitalism

Mandarin in the trash. Deck: BM, Watchtower, Rogue, Storyteller. Capitalism bought.

Play BM
  Play Storyteller
Play Rogue gaining Mandarin, trashing with Watchtower
      topdeck Storyteller, BM, Rogue
draw Rogue, Storyteller, BM from Storyteller

And repeat.

Thanks!  But don't you run out of Black Markets this way?
