Game Reports / Double-tac governor / madman
« on: May 25, 2016, 11:15:41 am »
To me, this was one of the more interesting boards I've seen. Is it quicker to play governor-double tactician or to put a Madman in there to allow for some additional Swindling? I know there were some errors in my play (maybe buy more Governors if the Madman is present, but what if I fail to draw it).

Code: [Select]
Hermit, Swindler, Silk Road, Spice Merchant, Taxman, Embassy, Governor, Haggler, Tactician, Hoard
And the log is here (https://dominion-game-logs.s3.amazonaws.com/game_logs/20160525/log.0.1464188739031.txt).

I am after advice about a game I played against werothegreat last night. The kingdom was as follows (and I'm sorry that I can't get the visualizer to work):

Apothecary, Trade Route, Farming Village, Jack of All Trades, Marauder, Catacombs, Count, Rebuild, Grand Market, Expand, Copper, Silver, Gold, Estate, Duchy, Province, Curse, Colony, Platinum, Potion, Ruins

I went Jack with a little Count trashing and some grand markets. Werothegreat went rebuild/Jack.

Afterwards, a friend told me that Stef thought we should go apothecary. My question is about how to play that strategy best.
Do you go apothecary into Expanding Jack-gained silvers into GMs? Or apothecary for reordering with a big Count trash?
I play tested the kingdom and could get 80 points in 18 turns (instead of the 50-odd I made in the game in the same turns) but I'm very inconsistent. I think the problem I have is managing any more than 2-3 non-copper treasures.

The log of the original game is http://dominion-game-logs.s3.amazonaws.com/game_logs/20151120/log.0.1447987648487.txt.

Game 1 – Vineyards and Stonemason

Code: [Select]
Vineyard, Squire, Stonemason, Fishing Village, Island, Remake, Catacombs, Mandarin, Mystic, Harem
http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20151001/log.5101a312e4b0a35e483e0772.1443745072266.txt

Probably a lack of pile control and better use of remake by mpsprs.

Game 2 IGG rush

Code: [Select]
Vineyard, Squire, Stonemason, Fishing Village, Island, Remake, Catacombs, Mandarin, Mystic, Harem
log

I’m not sure what I could have done against Turn 3 & 4 IGGs but I’m open to suggestions. I was hoping Vault might help me get past curses but maybe I needed a second one?

Game 3 Hunting Party - Mercenary

Code: [Select]
Chancellor, Urchin, Warehouse, Ironworks, Remake, City, Duke, Hunting Party, Saboteur, Peddler
I tried to ride out an early Mercenary lead by sticking to one mercenary for longevity and going for Hunting Parties. It seemed to work but I’m not sure if that was just luck.

log

Game 4 – Monster possession engine

Code: [Select]
Lighthouse, Fortune Teller, Alchemist, Salvager, Spice Merchant, City, Laboratory, Witch, Border Village, Possession
I seemed to get to the possessions quicker. Looking back, I definitely should have bought the Possession on the possession turn 17.

log

Game 5 Golem vs Rabble

Code: [Select]
University, Fortune Teller, Feodum, Pirate Ship, Golem, Counterfeit, Laboratory, Rabble, Stables, Adventurer
University into Rabble/Golem. How early should we have gone for Stables? And would Stables have been stronger?

log

Game 6 Rats combo

Code: [Select]
Beggar, Market Square, Storeroom, Familiar, Cutpurse, Nomad Camp, Rats, Throne Room, Butcher, Outpost
My problem here is that I think I panicked once Rats/Butcher picked up steam. Should I have gone for straight Butcher instead? Or was it already too late?

log

Game 7 Eyes on the prize(s)

Code: [Select]
Chapel, Embargo, Baron, Farming Village, JackOfAllTrades, Salvager, Throne Room, Tournament, Library, Hoard
I’m not sure of the best strategy here, I feel I certainly had two lucky turns near the end to get some helpful prizes and close it out.

Could I please re-join for the new season?
My last season was Season 4. I was in Division D
Timezone is America/New_York

I won the following game quite handsomely (52-0 against a lower opponent) but am wondering if I played it optimally because it still took me 14 turns. You don't have to check the log, just some general advice would be fine. I went potion/forager to open and then got to peddlers and eventually a butcher. It felt OK given that I always had $16 when I needed it.

I'd like some advice on a board...
Here's Game 4 of my match against Dunduks.

Code: [Select]
Embargo, Fool's Gold, Stonemason, Oracle, Monument, Baker, Explorer, Mint, Rebuild, Soothsayer
I have a feeling Dunduks should have Embargoed the Fool's Golds but I still don't quite know whether to play Mint with the Baker token.

I enjoyed playing in E this time round. I would prefer to not have unreliable people play in my division because I really enjoyed playing with some people who were closer to my skill level. I can't speak for the others in the division.
Geolib's suggestion of two E's sounded good to me.

A quick report of the games I played with PST. I'd be happy to hear any advice on how to play better, particularly Game 5 where I couldn't work out what to do.

Game 1 - J. P. Gerber wins. I thought that Menagerie / Black Market was probably a fine way to go with some trashing and Hamlet discarding and Hunting Party.

Code: [Select]
Beggar, Chapel, Hamlet, Herbalist, Black Market, Forager, Menagerie, Trader, Haggler, Hunting Party, Inn
http://dominionlogs.goko.com/20140910/log.51664525e4b0a2af9e243dc9.1410350561252.txt

Game 2 - J. P. Gerber wins http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140910/log.51664525e4b0a2af9e243dc9.1410351567046.txt
Clawed back from a slightly uneven start

Game 3 - J. P. Gerber wins http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140910/log.51664525e4b0a2af9e243dc9.1410352913533.txt
Fairgrounds got me by surprise but I focused on money to get some prizes

Game 4 - J. P. Gerber wins http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140910/log.51664525e4b0a2af9e243dc9.1410353283139.txt
Beggar-Gardens rush

Game 5 - PST wins. A board that I couldn't see how to play. Good work to PST for seeing that Pillage defeats Death Cart.

Code: [Select]
Cellar, Black Market, Fortune Teller, Death Cart, Remake, Trader, Cartographer, Mandarin, Mystic, Pillage
http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140910/log.51664525e4b0a2af9e243dc9.1410353997242.txt

Game 6 - J. P. Gerber wins
http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140910/log.51664525e4b0a2af9e243dc9.1410354566066.txt
I initally think Council Room-BM but then realise PST's Golem is good if it can hit Apprentice and Highway in order.

Dear my opponent, I'm sorry that you got a 5:2 split on a Witch/Moat board and then proceeded to use your moat to draw the witch three times, giving me an eventual 9:1 curse split.
