Dominion General Discussion / Re: Must-Buy Cards?
« on: July 22, 2011, 10:20:02 am »
While I appreciate what Cutpurse can do in a game with no way to remove the copper, and especially in games where there is no good 5$ card or 4$ card where cutpurse can steal 2$ worth of an opponent's hand as early as turn 3, I have yet to find use for Bureaucrat outside a gardens game (where both parts are valuable) or as mediocre hate against Nobles, Islands and Barons (which can also backfire as well if you think about it)

by the way: (effect_w minus effect_wo)(wRate_w minus wRate_ wo)
Chapel 100% (-0.34)(+0.23)
Fishy 95.3% (+2.13)(+0.40)
Tourney 94.0% (-1.21)(+0.04)
Remake 92.6% (-0.04)(-0.22!)
Caravan 92.4% (-1.08)(-0.10!)
So except for Fishy I overbuy all of these
for reference: wRate copper available: 1.27

Thief 2.4% ()(-0.61)
Adventurer 3.0% ()(-0.49)
Navigator 3.5% ()(-0.39)
Counting House 4.3% ()(-0.50)
Bureaucrat 4.7% ()(-0.82)

I'd like to submit a definition for "empty court":

An empty court is a hand that contains some combination of Throne Rooms and/or King's Courts, but no other action cards to play with them.

also:
empty throne = (complaining about) drawing throne room without action to copy
setup = synonym for board, kingdom, ...
+action = synonym for village ("there is no +action in this setup")
spammable = card that are (also) good in multiples, mostly --> cantrips, often ensuing a --> war over them and running out the respective piles quickly
missing the (first) reshuffle = (complaining about) not drawing a card purchased on T1/T2 until T5, which is a huge setback
mirror match = game where both players pursue the same strategy, which rises the luck factor tremendously
___ war/race = both players trying to get the majority of a certain (spammable) card (Alchemist, HP, Lab, Caravan, Minion, ...) ("He won the Lab war and it was all downhill from there")
curse war = in a game without trashing, when both players try to give the opponent the majority of curses, therefore clogging the other player's deck and allowing to win on a --> tiebreaker
gardens race = both players trying to get the majority of gardens in a setup where a gardens strategy looks good
tiebreaker = card that allows a player to win on a tie of the most valuable victory card
village smithy = general strategy of combining a --> +action card with a --> terminal card drawer

and a term I never heard of, but that makes sense dominion-wise:
cashtrip = cards that gives +action, +card and +$, which are usually spammable and reduce the need for treasure cards, allowing a stable deck with good purchasing power / combinations with certain cards like Minion and Shanty Town.

I agree with most of it,
and I think that Remake is the best 4$ card in cornucopia

5
If anybody thinks that Silver keeps Remake from trashing fast enough,
the only logical conclusion would be that he must prefer Remake/nothing over Remake/Silver.

There is alao the problem of newly registered players with lots of rl dominion expeirence.
Level 0 with 500 games tells you something about that player's skill, but
Level 0 with 5 games does not.
You might just got paired with a good player that was newly registered.

So in addition to setting level constraints for possible opponents,
constraints about played games (e.g. minimum of 100 games) might come in handy.

Dominion Isotropic / automatch keeps trying to match the same players
« on: July 11, 2011, 02:09:08 pm »
hi!

I really like the automatch function, but occasionally it keeps trying to pair me
with the same player, even if he/she declines 3 times, 4 times, ...

Could the automatch function be changed in a way that 3 declines in a row by
the same 2 players do not lead to a 4th matching of the same players?

Some people just don't want to play each other, maybe because their level is
too different, or because they just dislike each other's behavior.

I'm on Zaphod's side in this issue, and I think the most elegant solution would be, that with GM available you play all noncoppers with the first hit on the +$ button, then you can hit the +$ button again and play all coppers.

easy as π
