He's already working on updates as we speak. :D

As a longtime Dominion player who just picked up Online play again a few months ago after being turned off by the parade of shitshow implementations post-isotropic, I was pleasantly surprised to find (after a few options tweaks) how playable the game was now.  At the same time, I was a little shocked at some seemingly extremely basic features didn't exist.  There's no "replay kingdom button??" The win/loss screen only shows you what ended up in your deck and doesn't show you the kingdom cards, trash or log?  You can't search the cards or filter by anything other than set in the kingdom creator??  Perhaps understandable if they weren't getting renewed so no reason to add features really, but maybe now they will add some stuff.

I mean, people on dominiondeck.com save the created sets of 10, I'm pretty sure this site's blog has used it for annotated games/the custom-made sets for the DominionStrategy tournament...

I know that in the beta there is a button to generate a random set before you play, but that's not what I was talking about, and it sounded more like Elysium was saying that the deck builder in general was a bad idea, not that it was poorly implemented.

Dominiondeck, not having any way to actually play the game, serves some function for people who are playing the game IRL.  Maybe they just use it as a much more convenient alternative to the randomizer cards, or maybe they just like to browse the cards/think about potential sets for their game session later that night when they are at work.  Also, it allows people to share and talk about certain combos and decks, in their forums or on here or whatever.  Even considering that, there are only 1600 saved decks for 477 users, which is a little over 3 saved decks per user (not very many), and most of those were probably only saved to show to someone else (or the forum) one time, not so they could remember it and come back to playing it for the 10th time.

When you are playing Goko, you can play a random set, but to get any specific card (other than hitting random until it appears) you HAVE to create a deck in the deck builder.  You have to go into the deck builder, build your deck, give it a name, save it, then load a game and load your deck.  The vast majority of people will never play their saved deck again, and will probably have to delete it later at some point.  You don't need the deck builder as a randomizer because the game will do that anyway, and you don't need it to share sets with your friends because you can't do that.  The game does not need a "deck builder."  You don't really need to save decks for later.  What you need is an easy and quick way to start games with whatever cards you want, and a way to randomize with controls for sets/attacks/villages/etc.

I think it'd be cool for Trashing to just drag the card from your hand to the trash -- No misclicks then!

And for discarding, move it from your hand to the discard pile -- No misclicks either!

No! No dragging!  Ever!

It's nice that they answered my question (about the developers familiarity with Dominion), and maybe this wasn't clear, but I really did want to know who thought the "deck builder" was a good idea.  Like I wanted her to say "oh, that was Bob's idea, he's never played Dominion before, clearly the deck builder is a stupid idea and we will just be implementing simple kingdom picking controls for the future."  Or something to that effect...

What sort of prior experience do these developers have? Also, how many of you actually played Dominion before the Funsockets Goko Dominion was brainstormed?

I'm also interested in the familiarity the developers had with Dominion before starting their work.  The Deck Builder implementation especially speaks to me as an aspect that was designed by people who don't "get" Dominion, and who thought it was more akin to MTG.  Who saves entire decks to play over and over again? (besides Paralyzed)  The whole point of the game is that it changes every time.  Most people want to either play 1) a completely random deck, 2) a random deck minus a few cards they hate, 3) a random deck plus a few cards they want right then (for that one game) or 4) a random set biased towards a specific mixture (of one set or no attacks or guaranteed +2 action).

As it is right now, the game will give you a random deck, but if you want any specific card you have to either randomize your entire set until it pops up (and good luck waiting for 2 or 3 card combos to come up), or go create an entire deck, save it, create a game and load it, and then likely never play that saved deck ever again.  This is such a waste of time for a "feature" that not many people really need.

Also, given that Goko is simultaneously developing at least 4 games (including Dominion) and potentially many more in the pipeline, how much attention is it really getting?  Are the "best guys" on it?  Will updates be frequent (to fix all the bugs that still remain, some of them game breaking, and fix all the UI and speed issues) or will the developers be busy working on RftG or some other game?

I believe it was first come first served after the original "rewards"

Hmm, I signed up on the first day I think.  Not sure how many hours after it went live.  Guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Can you think of an alternative method that would be acceptable?

Play with Colonies when you want to play with Colonies.  Don't play with Colonies when you don't want to play with Colonies.

Some crybaby named Frozyme accused me of hacking the point counter extension so I could sneak it into an automatch game where it is disabled or something.  This is more likely the result of the recent software change for the lobbies breaking something, but no, I am a cheating hacker, that is the likeliest scenario.

I had a game similar to those: http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20110218-084334-9f0245a8.html#Graystripe77-show-turn-14

On his turn 14 he KC's two bridges, and ends up with $17 and 8 buys.  That's enough to buy out all the $2 provinces and win the game.  Instead, he buys 8 action cards.  The next turn I buy out every single Colony and Province.

I'm not sure how you guys even have time to get a "GG" in.  A lot of players I play with just bail from the game almost immediately.

You have to get your GG in fast, because then if they do quit without saying anything, your GG becomes a handy taunt that they will have to look at in their chatlog.

Chapel, Bazaar, City, King's Court, Ambassador, Young Witch, Lighthouse

So we both open Chapel/Bazaar.

Game goes relatively as you would expect, we Chapel down, buy Bazaars and King's Courts, do some Ambassador battling and Young Witching.  Note that there are no +buys unless we 2-pile Cities.  The game gets a bit drawn out because we both make sure we stock up on KC instead of going for earlier Provinces.

I break out and start going provinces.  I open a 5-0 Province lead.

Turn 27, I'm up 5-2 provinces.  2 piles have been emptied, he has 2 cities.

(Elysium draws: 3 Provinces and 2 Bazaars.)

I pray for a KC but draw another Bazaar, and then an Ambassador, and another Province.  Great, I'll just Ambassador a province and end the game, but no, he has lighthouse.  I have to settle for an Estate.

Next hand (abridged):

Quote
   --- frotes's turn 27 ---
   frotes plays a King's Court.
   ... and plays a King's Court.
   ... ... and plays a City.
   ... ... ... (frotes reshuffles.)
   ... ... ... drawing 2 cards and getting +2 actions, +1 buy, and +$1.
... ... and plays the City again.
   ... ... ... drawing 2 cards and getting +2 actions, +1 buy, and +$1.
... ... and plays the City a third time.
   ... ... ... drawing 2 cards and getting +2 actions, +1 buy, and +$1.
... and plays the King's Court again.
...
... and plays the King's Court a third time.
   ... ... and plays a Young Witch.
   ... ... ... Elysium gains a Curse.
... ... and plays the Young Witch again.
   ... ... ... Elysium gains a Curse.
... ... and plays the Young Witch a third time.
   ... ... ... Elysium gains a Curse.
   frotes plays a Gold.
   frotes buys a Duchy.
   frotes buys a Duchy.
   frotes buys a Duchy.
   frotes buys a Province.
   frotes buys a Duchy.
   (frotes reshuffles.)

He won by 3 points!

I don't think you should even be able to decline an auto-match.  It shouldn't even show you the cards, it should just put you in the game.  If you then want to quit because you don't like the cards, you should eat the loss.  When you're clicking auto-match, you are basically saying "Instead of choosing my cards and opponent, I want a random game against a random opponent," you shouldn't be going on to say "...except I don't want to play against that guy, or that card, or that card."

I play automatch all the time, and I will play any card set, with anyone that pops up, even if they are unregistered. It's really annoying when I get declined several games in a row.
