Majora's Mask is one of the best games I've ever played. It's short, sweet, and packed with optional content that fleshes out the world. Every playthrough reveals something new. I love games that cram lots of detail in a small area!

Also: Zora!Link has the best swimming controls in any 3D game. I understand that they changed it in the 3DS version, which fills me with sadness.

That's not the new Zelda game for Wii U in the opening?

The new Zelda could have a simultaneous WiiU/Switch launch, like Twilight Princess on the Gamecube/Wii.

What I most enjoyed in HPMoR were the bits where Harry & co played around with magic and tried to figure out the underlying rules that govern it. Harry's machinations to upset Britain's economy, his and Hermione's experiments with transfiguration, and Draco's investigation of magical genetics were some of the highlights for me. I was slightly disappointed when this turned out to be such a minor part of the story.

Can you recommend any other works of (fan)fiction with such a focus on an empirical approach to magic?

I just finished playing the first Phoenix Wright game. As someone who dislikes visual novels and Japanese storytelling in general... I still had a lot of fun!

(To clarify: I recommend it.)

I don't get the point of having multupe costs on arbitrage.
I suppose the point of Arbitrage is to buy it for $1 then use some trash-for-benefit card (Remodel, Salvager, Arbitrage itself...) to "sell" it for $4.

Question: when you say "fanservice" do you mean "sexually titillating scenes" or do you mean "in-jokes that only fans will get"?

In fact, I would vote for "terms that have ambiguous/unrelated meanings" as one of the worst things ever. ;P

P.S.: How interesting is it that simply writing "clickbait" on the title makes it more likely that people will click it? It's like we're approaching the meta-clickbait singularity.

I think Crossroads is a better comparison, in this case: "If this is the first time you played X this turn, <whatever>."

As a side-effect, the card behaves differently when played as an Estate with Inheritance.

#50 - Obelisk

What's going on on top of the building to the left? They seem to colorful to be statues.

Fun fact: Statues in ancient Rome were usually painted! That paint didn't survive the centuries, though, leaving only bare stone and marble we see today.

#81 - Mining Village

My daughters say the climbing guy looks like Shadow Mario. I've never played a game with that character so I couldn't say. I just like the art.

In Super Mario Sunshine there's a villain called Shadow Mario. Is it likely that your daughters are familiar with a 14-year-old game?

Time spent in-game is not at all correlated with game quality, and I oppose any system that doles out rewards based on this erroneous notion.

I'm something of a PC power-user, and at first I was extremely frustrated by my iPhone's rigid, inflexible structure. It doesn't have a filesystem, per se, but specific apps that deal in specific types of data (these are pictures, these are books, these are songs, lol what's a text file?) and they have very limited options for organizing and sorting their contents. Furthermore, if you want to transfer stuff between a PC and an iPhone... well, you're limited to JPEGs and MP3s.

Eventually, I figured out that I could bypass all of that by using DropBox. It creates a virtual filesystem on my iPhone that is kept in sync with my PC via the Internet.

P.S.: This is the only smartphone I've owned, so I don't know how the Android experience differs from it.

#220 - Tactician

Looking at this picture again, I am reminded of the shockingly careless handling of charts by medieval people in fiction. That map must've taken months of painstaking labor to draw, and the Tactician is just casually jabbing it with a big rusty knife!

Does it have to be a Treasure-Duration? Why can't you make it an Action-Duration with +1 Action? (I know that's not exactly the same, but I'm curious about your reasoning to go this way.)

While we're on the topic, do you think Actual Advice Mallard would advise us to play Travelers:

This. It's a useful tip for any cards with clean-up effects, like Scheme and Treasury,

You could be very strict about your interpretation and rule you can't gain "another" thing, if you didn't gain the first "thing", but I think Donald's right about calling it this way.

Mad Hatter: Would you like a little more tea?
Alice: Well, I haven't had any yet, so I can't very well take more.
March Hare: Ah, you mean you can't very well take less.
Mad Hatter: Yes. You can always take more than nothing.

I really like Tangled (the Disney movie from a few years ago). Great songs, fun characters, excellent execution of an ages-old formula. Even a trite story can be interesting if it's told well.

I don't mind playing a boring Smithy-BM using the First Game cards. I classify that as time-spent-explaining-the-rules.

Wait a minute. Do you really play Smithy-BM against newbies just learning the game using the first kingdom? It seems to me that would be teaching them that Dominion is kind of a stupid game where the optimal strategy is to just ignore 90% of the cards on the table and buy money and two Smithies.

Yes, I do. I've done it about 5 or 6 times now; it's been a very successful approach and the newbies have always asked for a rematch.

I have a few theories to explain this phenomenon:

- During the first game, their mind is 100% focused on the Supply and their own decks.
- My turns go by faster, making the game less boring for them.
- They have the chance to snap up more engine components and play around with Action chains.
- Smithy-BM puts a limit on the game's duration (in real-time), so it doesn't overstay its welcome.

When playing subsequent matches, the training wheels are off and I do my best to show off whatever fancy engine I can assemble from the randomly-selected Kingdom.

5 minutes to arrange the table, 10 minutes to teach the basics, 30 minutes to play the game. You won't find many Euros that can be set up and explained in less than 45 minutes.

Six player game. Kingdom includes Messenger and Great Hall. All players start with 4 Coppers in hand.
P1:
Buy Messenger, all 6 players gain an Estate
P2:
Buy Messenger, all 6 players gain an Estate.
P3:
Buy Messenger, all 6 players gain a Great Hall.
P4:
Buy Messenger, all 6 players gain a Great Hall.
P5:
Buy Messenger, gain Messenger and the remaining 4 Messengers are distributed to the other players.

Game ends on piles (Estate, Great Hall, Messenger) with all players tied for points. P6 took fewer turns (zero), and therefore is the winner.

Edit: Argh, never mind. I forgot that we need a 4-pile ending if playing with 6 players.
