Tactician, Poor House and Horn of Plenty are cards which allow this to happen often enough. Keep an eye out for those cards.
How does Tactician allow this to happen? It doesn't give you coins or an alternative way of gaining cards.

Double tac

Obviously I'm very late to the game, but it looks like neither my opponent or I saw the list in time.  Neither one of us messaged the other and we were both out of the first round.  oh well, next time.

Also torturer can force hands to be less than 3 cards.

I disagree somewhat with your aside.  The gardens player has little to no ability to switch gears into a different strategy. By denying him some gardens, you are taking advantage of your flexibility.  Him not being able to piledrive the gardens hurts way more then the couple of gardens slow you down.

Help! / Re: Junk, coppers and engine cards... a complex board
« on: September 13, 2013, 11:46:28 am »
This is a pretty good engine board.  Torturer for draw, haggler for pseudo +buy, loan/mercenary for trashing.  I would try to get mercenary right away.  Its really good against Torturer pins since they just give you trash fodder.

I would ignore death cart here.  I think you will have plenty of money from Spoils, Haggler, and Mercenary.

Dominion General Discussion / Goko rating system is very frustrating
« on: August 20, 2013, 11:14:40 pm »
I just lost back to back games against someone much lower than me who got lucky.  I mean he bought THIEF in one game for crying out loud.  Long story short, how should that cause me to drop 300 points and 80 ranks?  Was isotropic that way too I just never realized it?  How many times would I have to beat this guy to get all those points back?

... Are made for drunk Fominion.  That is all.

You lost by 2 points in a colony game when you went second.  We could probably go turn by turn and find a thing here or there, but I'd say thats pretty close.

When exactly on March 15th will it shut down?  I am planning an all day Dominionfest but is it midnight or 11:59:59 PM on the 15th?

Vineyards won but after the fact opponent questioned the decision.  I'm interested to hear others thoughts?  Did I get lucky?  Didn't feel like it...

Game 1 is just the power of apothecary.  Its easily one of my favorite/most underrated cards.

Game Reports / Re: over coming perfect Chapel/Wharf opening
« on: March 08, 2013, 11:41:20 am »
I bought the second chapel with my horrid turn 3 (CCEEE) in hopes to catch up with the thinning.  At that point I wasn't ready to switch strategies.   It may have been a mistake since its likely to be drawn dead by wharf.

You're in a race for NVs too, even if your opponent doesn't realize it. Workshops can sub in for the last few bridges, but there's no substitute for villages.

Thats a really good point. Especially with highways thrown into the mix.

Game Reports / over coming perfect Chapel/Wharf opening

I was eventually going to slip into Vineyards but I was hoping to build my economy a bit first.  Opponent getting perfect turns 1-4 made me make a move much earlier.  Here's to being able to change strategies at a moments notice -

Tough call.  You are kind of asking for it by buying potion when Embargo is there.  I think you might be able to piece together an engine ignoring the curses and then try to forge/salvage them away.  I like Nobles/Harem/Silk Roads here.  He got to 4 provinces but his deck was getting very clogged (although salvager would help him speed up the end).

Game Reports / 5/2 copper buy
« on: February 21, 2013, 04:11:25 pm »
I think this is the first time I ever opened copper.  It felt right.  I ended up cruising to win vs a less experienced opponent but thats besides the point.  Thoughts?

cards in supply: Bank, Council Room, Feast, Harvest, Library, Navigator, Secret Chamber, Spice Merchant, Trader, and Treasury

   — Copper copper everywhere, but not a drop to drin…'s turn 1 —
Copper copper everywhere, but not a drop to drin… plays 2 Coppers.
Copper copper everywhere, but not a drop to drin… buys a Copper.
(Copper copper everywhere, but not a drop to drin… draws: 5 Coppers.)

   — Copper copper everywhere, but not a drop to drin…'s turn 2 —
Copper copper everywhere, but not a drop to drin… plays 5 Coppers.
Copper copper everywhere, but not a drop to drin… buys a Council Room.
(Copper copper everywhere, but not a drop to drin… reshuffles.)
(Copper copper everywhere, but not a drop to drin… draws: an Estate and 4 Coppers.)

I don't get my first minion until turn 7.  Play it on turn 10.  And don't play another minion until turn 17.

Also, why did you end the game?  You never know how bad his shuffles will be so buy the duchy and go for the miracle win.

Typical BV/Wharf game in which I get smoked.  Opponent only had 4 silvers and 4 coppers and 2 light houses at end of game.  I don't know how this turned out so lopsided:

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201302/13/game-20130213-131023-c120d1bc.html

thoughts?  I didn't bump up my early economy that much, I'll admit that.  But still...

Help! / Re: What....what on earth happened here?
« on: February 13, 2013, 12:21:09 pm »
This happens to me sometimes when I see a clearly weaker opponent and don't play optimally.  I'm guessing you would have played differently vs a more experienced player.  It depends then on what your goal is.  If you can play BMU and cruise to a win, is it fun?  Do you learn anything?  I use games like these to try out different strategies sometimes with results like this.  At least you learned something about this kingdom.

Game Reports / Power of the caravan

got smoked in this game and i can only attribute it to the caravan train:

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201301/30/game-20130130-174038-1aafbe2a.html

I was thinking peddlers from the beginning with extra goons buys.   Tribute would hit a lot of action cards for double goons.  He only had one goons but played it pretty much every turn.
