I've found games where Contraband, Stash, Saboteur, were all useful. Hell even remember a game where Counting House was key. Don't ever remember Harvest being useful.

Ok, ok, I'll be as gracious as I can.  :-)  It's totally not necessary — the site was a labor of love, mostly — but dougz@isotropic.org is indeed my paypal account and I stopped turning down free money years ago.

The Palo Alto address is no longer good; I moved a couple of weeks ago (remember downtime followed by a week of frequent disconnects?).  It should still forward, actually, or you can email me for my address if you prefer avoiding paypal.

Finally decided to send a little money today. Thanks for hosting it for so long.

I tried to check on council room, but it times out.

It would be great to see what the win/loss records are against one another for the remaining 8.

DonDon won't have a lot of numbers given his past resistance to playing online (I know my record against DonDon: 1/1/1 - that right DD? The win was Potion/Herbalist. The loss was Torture/Chapel/Border Village. The tie was a 4P game where niether of us won I think...)

But everyone else should have a pretty substantial record against one another.

I know I'd be curious.

GGs, glad we finally got a time together :).

Did not realize how much that HP would help the single amb as you hit me turn 4-9, while I didn't see it until 7, and then yeah...

oh so close to pulling off the triple province governor turn on game 4, but alas. My strategy that last game was just a muddled mess though. Gl

Puzzles and Challenges / Re: My first challenge: Turn 2 Double Colony

Yeah I had thought about Embassy for a while, but couldn't get there. Masquerade and Noble Brigand are clearly necessary, but couldn't figure a way without Jester or Coppersmith. Yeah my initial solution was one action short, with Tribute->Jester/WT/Coppersmith/Coppersmith/Council Room. Came up with the Border Village fix and Throne Room fix at the same time leaving a lot of room for improvement...so I had been thinking about how to improve this as well...

3 Colony solution

Pretty close to the same start...
Player 1:Buys Noble Brigand. Player 4 and 6 reveal Estate/Estate gaining a copper
Player 2:Buys Masquerade. Drawing Masquerade, 4 Coppers
Player 3:Buys Masquerade. Drawing Masquerade, 4 Coppers
Player 4:Buys Jester. Drawing Jester, Estate, 3 Coppers
Player 5:Buys Watchtower. Drawing Watchtower, 4 Coppers
Player 6:Buys Crossroads (even with 5 coppers). Drawing Crossroads, Estate, 3 Coppers
Player 1:Buys Shanty Town
Player 2:Plays Masquerade. Player 1 passes Copper, Player 2 passes Copper, Player 3 passes Copper, Player 4 passes Jester, Player 5 passes Watchtower, Player 6 passes Estate. Draws 2 Coppers, Buying Border Village, gaining Coppersmith.
Player 3:Plays Masquerade. Player 1 passes Copper, Player 2 passes Copper, Player 3 passes Copper, Player 4 passes Copper, Player 5 passes Jester, Player 6 passes Copper. Draws 2 Coppers, Buying Border Village, gaining Throne Room.
Player 4:Buys Noble Brigand (to reduce player 5's deck to 4 cards, also hitting player 6's Estate/Estate gaining a copper)
Player 5:Buys Throne Room
Player 6:Plays Crossroads. Plays Jester. Player 2 reveals a Border Village, choose to gain a Border Villager with a Council Room, top decking both. Player 3 reveals a Border Village, choose to gain a Border Village with a Jester, top decking both. Player 5 reveals a Throne Room, choose to gain and topdeck. Play Watchtower to draw Throne Room, Jester, Border Village, Council Room. Play Border Village, Drawing Border Village. Play Border Village, drawing Copper. Play Jester. Player 1 reveals Shanty Town, P2 Coppersmith, P3 Throne Room, P4 Copper, P5 Copper, gaining all. Throne Room Council Room drawing 7 Coppers and Shanty Town. Play Shanty Town drawing Throne Room and Coppersmith. Throne Room Coppersmith. Play 10 Coppers worth 3 each, and with 4 money from 2 Jesters is enough for 3 Colonies.

Hard mode solution

Player 1:Buys Noble Brigand. Player 4 and 6 reveal Estate/Estate gaining a copper
Player 2:Buys Masquerade. Drawing Masquerade, 4 Coppers
Player 3:Buys Masquerade. Drawing Masquerade, 4 Coppers
Player 4:Buys Jester. Drawing Jester, Estate, 3 Coppers
Player 5:Buys Watchtower. Drawing Watchtower, 4 Coppers
Player 6:Buys Tribute. Drawing Tribute, Estate, 3 Coppers
Player 1:Buys Masquerade
Player 2:Plays Masquerade. Player 1 passes Copper, Player 2 passes Copper, Player 3 passes Copper, Player 4 passes Jester, Player 5 passes Watchtower, Player 6 passes Estate. Draws 2 Coppers, Buying Border Village, gaining whatever.
Player 3:Plays Masquerade. Player 1 passes Copper, Player 2 passes Copper, Player 3 passes Copper, Player 4 passes Copper, Player 5 passes Jester, Player 6 passes Copper. Draws 2 Coppers, Buying Border Village, gaining whatever.
Player 4:Buys Noble Brigand (to reduce player 5's deck to 4 cards)
Player 5:Buys Throne Room
Player 6:Plays Tribute. Player 1 reveals Masquerade and Noble Brigand, for +4 Actions. Plays Jester. Player 2 reveals a Border Village, choose to gain a Border Villager with a Council Room, top decking both. Player 3 reveals a Border Village, choose to gain a Border Village with a Coppersmith, top decking both. Player 5 reveals a Throne Room, choose to gain and topdeck. Play Watchtower to draw Throne Room, Coppersmith, Border Village, Council Room. Play Border Village, Drawing Border Village. Play Border Village, drawing Copper. Throne Room the Coppersmith. Play the Council Room drawing 4 Coppers. Play 7 Coppers worth 3 each, which along with the 2 money from Jester is enough to buy 2 Colonies.

« on: July 27, 2012, 04:57:01 pm »
Finally figured out how to do it on 2nd players 4th turn after trying for the convoluted, it actually ended up being relatively simple

Stealing from most VPs in 4 turns opening. Both players follow the same first 4 turns.

Turn 1: Draw 4 Coppers and Estate. Play 4 Coppers and buy Nomad Camp, putting it on top of deck.
Turn 2: Draw Nomad Camp, 3 Coppers and Estate. Play Nomad Camp and 3 Coppers, and buy Watchtower and Hamlet.
Turn 3: Draw Estate, (reshuffle), Copper, Hamlet, Nomad Camp and Watchtower. Play Hamlet, drawing Copper and discarding Estate and Copper for +1 Action and +1 Buy. Play Nomad Camp then Watchtower, drawing 5 Coppers. Play 6 Copper, buying 2 Hamlets and a Talisman
Turn 4: Draw Estate, Estate, (reshuffle), Estate, Hamlet, Copper. Play Hamlet, drawing Hamlet and discarding Estate and Copper for +1 Action and +1 Buy. Play Hamlet, drawing Hamlet and discarding Estate for +1 buy. Play Hamlet, drawing Watchtower and discarding Estate for +1 buy. Play Watchtower, drawing Nomad Camp, Talisman and 4 coppers. Play Nomad Camp.

With 5 buys, player 1 buys 1 Hamlet, 1 Watchtower, and 3 Curses, gaining 1 Hamlet, 1 Watchtower, and 3 Curses from the Talisman
Player 2 buys 2 Watchtowers, and 2 Curses, gaining 2 Watchtowers, and 2 Curses from the Talisman

Curses, Hamlets, and Watchtowers emptied

Yeah my solution still had some holes. You can either have player 1 ambassador a kings court, and have player 2 buy piles, or somehow split a lot of low buys equally. Was thinking a KC/Ironworks/Watchtower chain might do it, with some bridges or highways to help. I think the former is the way to go, but still trying to work on it.

Yeah a shockingly big difference between 4 turns and 5 turns with a perfect shuffle puzzle. Here is what it took to get 2 colonies in 4 turns

Do Outpost turns count? I think I can do it with an outpost on turn 4 for 2nd player. Probably don't need the outpost though. Obviously you can't end the game on prov/colony before turn 5, but I think on piles might be possible.

What I found most interesting is Marin gains Black Market in 93.8 percent of games and has a 1.2 win rate with it. Maybe Black Market is actually quite good, just no one knows how to use it  :o

I got one with 14

Turn 1:Haggler
Turn 2:Cellar
Turn 3:Draw Cellar Estate Estate Estate Copper
Cellar everything draw Haggler Copper Copper Copper buy Cache (haggle whatever)
3 card left in deck
Turn 4 draw Copper Copper Copper (reshuffle) Haggler Cache
Buy Province haggle Border Village gaining a duchy

Feel like I should be able to do better

Edit:Actually I got it on turn 3 haggle an ironworks. Turn 4 draw copper copper copper Haggler ironworks. Ironworks an island for +1 action and +1 card drawing the cache. Buy province/bv/duchy. 14 VPs
guess you do have to go for the colony route
