the advantage to facebook over discord is that people spend so much time on facebook anyway.

So we wouldn't have to go to a new website or do anything different, just go about our normal facebooking and see dominion stuff happen to show up on our newsfeed

Variants and Fan Cards / Card Idea
« on: January 17, 2019, 05:31:21 am »
New card idea:

Royal Room
Cost 5, Action:

+1 action. Choose a card in your hand and play it. Then return it to your hand.

 - Idea is that it's kind of like throne room since it can be used to play an action twice but it is much more powerful since  it gives more flexibility with what to do with your next action (ie you can choose to play the same action again, or you can choose to play a different action). Also it interacts with itself better than throne room does. Since when you Royal Room a Royal Room you can choose the same action for each of your royal rooms.

But in play effects like those from bridge would not work for Royal Room.

Rules Questions / journey token black market
« on: September 26, 2017, 10:18:18 am »
I recently played a game online where I got giant from the black market deck.
Since none of the starting 10 cards were journey cards I didn't have a journey token
So the giant just gave +$1 every time I played it.

I was wondering if that's the desired behavior or is it correct to add a journey token to the game in that circumstance.

Variants and Fan Cards / card tokens and action tokens
« on: September 05, 2017, 04:47:18 pm »
We have coin tokens, why not card tokens and action tokens.

Card tokens can be exchanged at any time for + 1 card and action tokens for + 1 actions.

What cards could be made with this mechanic?
How much would you price a card that gave + 2 card tokens?
How would this mechanic change the game if it existed?

thanks for the feedback - I took your advise. 3 second immunity at the beginning of each level is now implemented.
By the way - you can pause it by pressing 'v'

also, just because there is a dominant strategy, doesn't mean there is only 1 dominant way to play that strategy

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Opening Village
« on: August 22, 2012, 03:31:24 am »
while its not exactly a plane village, I open shanty town on a torturer engine, and on allot of other engines too. Bc once you have a torturer, village or shanty town is better than silver since you don't need silver to buy a second torturer, your draw from torturer will do that. And b4 you get the torturer, your shanty town is a lab.

Governor: ridiculously overrated

Can you explain?

I've been finding that spamming Governor (for Gold) keeps winning me games, especially if my opponent doesn't value the card as much. The ability to get double Province turns ridiculously early is pretty spectacular. Of course you can only safely use the +3 cards on the last turn, but that should be a double (or even triple) Province turn to close it out. I will do +3 cards earlier if I'm reasonably confident it will be a double Province turn and my opponent doesn't have an engine that can match that, even with an extra card.

And this route to victory is fast - in the absence of cursers, the games end around turns 11-14 with a majority of Provinces gained.

So here's how I see it. Lets say that in a game where both people are going governor you can get most of the provinces in 12 or 13 turns. Remember that your opponent's Governor is helping you get there since he's giving you free silvers to buy governors or provinces or to be remodeled into governors. Without your opponent's help you could probably only do it in around 14 turns or more. (Try it on solitaire if you don't believe me, and if you manage to consistently do it in 12 turns without help, please post links since I would want ti see how you did it) So 14 turns to the majority of the provinces is like a mediocre big money strategy. Except now you have the disadvantage that your helping your opponent get to 5 provinces in 13 turns. So I usually skip Governor without support as long as there is some alternative. The other thing is that in a really fast, 11 turn game, second player is at a huge disadvantage. So going second, its probably in your interest to skip Governor and thus lengthen the game a bit.  I guess though, for the same reason it might be a particularly good idea to go for governor when playing first. But if your opponent doesn't follow, it won't shorten the game nearly as much. It does prevent you from going alt vp though, since your opponent doesn't have to worry about his governors helping you since the things that governors give you only really help for provinces. See also WW's comments here: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=2878.25 where he says Governor spamming is roughly on par with smithy big money, among other things

Dominion will be taken down from BGA on August 22th.
...

Isn't August 22 a date that has been thrown around for the approximate release of Dark Ages? It would seem kind of fitting that Dark Ages and the official electronic version are released at the same time.

If this thing doesn't launch by 8/22, do we think they will keep iso up past then? (and maybe with dark ages cards)

Why cant I find anything mentioning this release date anywhere else on the internet?

Skip Mbank?! Imo that's not a good idea. But hp over gold, yes. Normally you want one gold and then always prefer hp. I think its even possible that with a curser, hp is more important than even the first gold (until you have a few hps) since it helps you play your curser more often

Help! / Re: Council Room
« on: August 07, 2012, 10:38:06 pm »
changed the bot to the following:
Buy Province
Buy Duchy (if count in supply province<=3)
Buy estate (if count in supply province<=1)
Buy Golem (if count in deck apothecary >= count in deck golem+1)
Buy apothecary
Buy Potion (if count in deck potion<1)
Buy Salvager (if count in deck salvager = 0)
Buy Gold
Buy Potion (if count in deck potion<2)
Buy Herbalist (if count in deck Herbalist = 0)
Now it only beats big money council room 19.1% of the time. I think part of the problem is - what do you do with 3$, 4$ and 5$ when you don't have potion?

Thanks all for the feedback. I'm trying to incorporate into the simulator to make a bot good enough to beat big money council room, and have so far been unsuccessful.
Currently my buy rules are the following:
Buy Province
Buy Duchy (if count in supply province<=3)
Buy estate (if count in supply province<=1)
Buy Golem (if count in deck apothecary >= count in deck golem+1)
Buy apothecary
Buy Potion (if count in deck potion<2)
Buy Gold
Buy Herbalist (if count in deck Herbalist = 0)
Buy Salvager (if count in deck salvager = 0)
Buy copper (if count in deck copper < 12)
This only beats big money council room 30.5% of the time. I could tweak the buy rules, but I still would have allot of ground to cover. Could it be that big money council room is really the way to go here?

hmm, that seems to work - sort of. But if you take too many extra coppers you will not draw your apothecaries often enough. How many do you think is optimal, (Or should I consult the simulator, perhaps).
