Dominion Isotropic / Bug with Embargo+Watchtower
« on: December 19, 2012, 08:34:46 am »
There is an (admittedly rather minor) bug when you trash a Curse received because of an Embargo with a Watchtower.

It first says "You trash the Curse" and only after that "You gain the Curse". Isotropic's own point counter seems to handle this fine, but Dr. Helds point counter extension is thrown off and gives an error message for wrong number of Curses or something and counts the trashed Curse as existent in the number of Curses of that player.
But also independently of the problem with the extension it wasn't clear from Iso's output if it had trashed the Curse correctly or not, so the wrong order of the notifications is a source of confusion which should better be avoided if that isn't too much work to fix. (Well, we are spoiled by Iso's perfection when the only bugs are as minor as this, I know!)

Here is a game log, it happened on my turns 13 and 16:

2012 / Rule questions 2012
« on: December 01, 2012, 08:32:44 pm »
I have the following two rule questions:

1. Under numeral 6 of the rules it says:

Quote from: Rules
If the players are unable to reach an agreement, they shall play with randomly selected cards (excluding any fan-made cards), no veto mode, and the official point counter. Use of unofficial point counters, notepads, etc. is not prohibited.

I am not quite certain whether this means that you can use the Chrome point counter extension (or alternatively simply a notepad) if the players don't reach an agreement on that. I guess it depends on if "official point counter" is meant in contrast to "Chrome point counter extension" / "notepad" - I wouldn't really see it as a contrast to that because the official point counter is also used when using the extension (or a notepad). But I am uncertain if the author meant it this way.
Could the organinzer please straighten that out for me?

2. Numeral 7 of the rules states:

Quote from: Rules
First player in the first game of the match is randomly determined.

That is very sensible of course, but how do we achieve that? How can I be sure that my opponent hasn't just played and lost a game in which case the first player would not be randomly determined if I have just logged on?
I would propose that both players take turns watching each other log out prior to the first game. Or is there a better way?

Dominion Isotropic / Bug with display of level in match requests
« on: September 24, 2012, 12:12:13 pm »
In the last weeks, I have had several cases where a player with a positive level was wrongly shown without a level in the match requests.
For instance, I remember having seen Marin without a level (i. e. only with the red square diamond and without a number).

IIRC in one of the instances I checked in the list of names below and there the correct level for the player was shown.

I hope this bug does not affect the leaderboard calculations!

Dominion: Dark Ages Previews / Cards with on-trash-benefits
« on: August 17, 2012, 04:57:41 pm »
So Dark Ages obviously has a lot of cards with on-trash-benefits.

The attack cards Swindler, Saboteur, Knights and Rogue are a lot weaker on boards with such cards.

I was about to make a posting evaluating Knights in another thread, so I thought I'd make a list of the new cards that have on-trash-benefits first to see just how many there are. Maybe someone else will find the list useful as well:

$2:

Squire (The cost of only $2 means that Knights, Rogues and Saboteurs won't trash them.)

$3:

Market Square (no benefit when trashed itself, but possible benefit when a player has it in hand when something else gets trashed)

$4:

Feodum
Fortress
Rats

$5:

Catacombs
Cultist

$6:

Hunting Grounds (If trashed early in the game, this could actually be an on-trash-drawback instead of an on-trash-benefit. But I think on most Province boards, it should be more of an advantage than a disadvantage to get a free Duchy for the larger part of the game – and Hunting Grounds cannot be trashed before the second reshuffle because of the cost of $6.)

So that makes 8 different cards in total (only 7 which are relevant for Knights, Rogues and Saboteur).

I did not include Hermit and Urchin in the list because they don't provide benefits when they are trashed by any other card (be it from the opponent or oneself), but only offer their benefit when they are trashed by their own special ability for that.

Rules Questions / Interaction of Counterfeit and Spoils
« on: August 17, 2012, 04:21:12 pm »
I am not entirely sure if this has already been answered somewhere, but I think not (at least I didn't find it). I guess it will be answered in the rules manual of Dark Ages, but alas, that isn't yet online on the RGG page. So here it comes:

When you play Counterfeit -> Spoils, which of the following three outcomes takes place?

a) You get $6 for playing the Spoils twice, then it goes to the trash. [Counterfeit's instructions take precedence over Spoils'.]
b) You get $3 for playing the Spoils once, after that you can't play it again because it went straight back to the supply (so it doesn't get trashed, either). [Spoils' instructions take precedence over Counterfeit's.]
c) You get $6 for playing Spoils twice, then it goes back to the supply. [For some reason, Counterfeit's instructions take precedence over Spoils' regarding the playing twice part, but Spoils' instructions take precedence over Counterfeit's regarding the supply vs. trash decision.]

If I had to, I'd guess b), but I am really not sure. And since Counterfeit looks pretty weak to me overall, I really think it could use the boost it would get from a) or c), so from that perspective I would prefer either of these.

Games in which one player disconnected / resigned early are not logged on CouncilRoom. Why is that? I vote for changing it! :D

I have 1753 games on the leaderboard, but only 1731 on CouncilRoom. I am pretty sure the missing 22 games are the ones where either I or one of the opponents disconnected early.

This is especially annoying in multi-player games. Recently I had a four player game I wanted to have a look at later, but it itsn't in my stats because one of the players disconnected on his first turn.

But even if it was a 2p game with one player disconnecting early (so that the log doesn't contain that much usable information), I'd like the log to be available to see all games that were counted for the leaderboard.

EDIT: Fixed typos

Dominion Isotropic / Isotropic down?
« on: June 19, 2012, 08:31:56 am »
I seem to have been disconnected from Isotropic during a game I just played (the game froze in the middle of an opponents turn from my perspective and no chat is coming through).

I tried logging back on again from two different computers for the last 15 minutes or so, but can't reach the Isotropic server.

Is the problem on my side or is Isotropic down?

So today I finally crossed the level 40 barrier on the leaderboard (yay! 8)).

But when I wanted to have a look at it on CouncilRoom, it still said level 39. In fact, the level history graph seems to miss the last few days since Isotropic was down. I first hit level 39 on June 7 - later that day Isotropic went down for two days. June 7 seems to be the last day that is in the graph (it doesn't show how I bounced back to level 38 yesterday (and during the downtime) before making 40 today, either).

I checked a few other players' stats and found discrepancies with the current leaderboard there as well - so it seems to be a general bug.

Could this have anything to do with the fact that CouncilRoom couldn't get fresh leaderboard stats from Isotropic on June 8 and 9? Maybe it was too devastated about that so that it stopped trying? ::) Just a guess... ;)

It would be much appreciated if this could get remedied soon!

Council room does not record ties on 3 (and presumbably also 4) player games as such.

Yesterday I had a tied win with one other person in a 3 player game:
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120605-140644-168c2ecc.html

However, my stat page shows a total 3 player record of 78-59-0 and a record of the last day of 25-7-0. The tied game seems to have been recorded as a victory instead of a tie. (The names of =-sup-= and me are green instead of grey here as well.)

Now, one might argue that it was a win from both of us over the third player, but that doesn't seem right to me. I think such games should be recorded as a tie - otherwise the last zero on the stats for multi player games doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

The game log page of Council Room does not calculate the points for Fairgrounds correctly in the score graph and in the per-turn-box at the bottom of the screen. It looks like this happens when someone has trashed all Estates (or probably also all Copper).

See here:

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120401-160738-457cf980.html

In the end I had 4 Fairgrounds and 9 differently named cards. I had no Estates. The Fairgrounds were counted correctly as 2 points apiece on Isotropic and therefore also in the point values given at the beginning of the log on Council Room (total points 44). However, in the score graph and in the box at the bottom of the screen they are counted as 4 points apiece as if I had had 10 differently named cards (total points 52 at the end). My guess would be that this bug stems from the fact that Estates are listed as "0 Estate" and mistakenly counted as a differently named card in the deck.
