I've been wondering about a cantrip trasher that doesn't reduce hand size, and was trying to work out how it would work.  I was thinking:

Action: £5
Trash a card from your hand
+2 cards
+1 action

But I can't figure whether it would be balanced at that.

The other option I was wondering about is

Action: £5
+2 cards
+1 action
Trash a card from your hand

Which is a small change but clearly makes the second version better than the first.  I've no idea whether either of them is balanced at 5 though - the first is equivalent to using Apprentice to trash an estate, which is almost the worst use of apprentice.

Would either of them be balanced at 4?

Variants and Fan Cards / Card idea: Remote Island, or similar name
« on: July 26, 2012, 06:13:05 am »
This is an idea I've been mulling over for some time, and wanted to suggest, but haven't developed or playtested yet.  It's basically intended to be a brinksmanship game, rather like NV/Bridge, the key would be knowing when to fire the alternate effect.

Remote Island (this could be better)
Action/?Victory?
Comes with a mat.
Price... don't know.  Probably 5, based on the fact that to work, it needs to be available early, but you probably don't want too many.
Draw a card and place it onto your Remote Island mat.  Your Remote Island mat is worth 1 VP for every 5 cards on it at the end of the game. (OR: each Remote Island is worth 1VP for every 10 cards on it at the end of the game - amounts are variable to balance the card.  Note that the cards are NOT returned to your deck at the end for regular VP counting).
OR
Put all cards from your Remote Island mat into your discard pile.

Basically, the intent would be to make a card which pseudo-trashes for small VP (useful for getting rid of early coppers and estates, possibly less useful later) but which risks taking large chunks of your deck out of play, and will dramatically reduce the value of the larger VP cards, unless you dump all the junk back into your deck.  A game of brinksmanship, essentially, you can use it to clear your deck to great effect, but it makes you really carefully consider when to ruin your deck in a great swathe in order not to lose the VP stored on there.

I suspect the first option probably needs +action to make the intended strategy work, but conversely, I don't intend for it to be a megaturn enabler like NV can be, so I don't want to make it too effective.

How does it sound?
