Variants and Fan Cards / Dominion: Subterfuge
« on: May 23, 2021, 06:55:42 pm »
When I first got into designing fan cards, I went a little nuts.  I tried to design complicated, strategy heavy cards and travelers without really having any idea what I was doing.  I would try to get about 25 kingdom cards and a couple of new ideas and say done!  Then move on to a new expansion with a new theme.  It was terrible.  But I learned.

After doing 4 complete expansions (really more, but I scrapped a couple of them totally), I realized I didn't like any of them.  But, there were some good cards in there.  At least, I think there were.  I decided to take the cards that I thought were actually decent and make one expansion that I'm actually proud of.  That's where Dominion: Subterfuge comes from.

There are nearly 30 Kingdom cards and a few non-Supply piles and extras. No landscape cards, but there is a mat, a token, and meeples! I tried to stick to a theme of new takes on old ideas (you can often see the inspiration for a card quickly).

I'm going to introduce a few at a time to keep from being overwhelming, and I would LOVE feedback.  I want to make this set the best it can be.

EDIT: Here are the current versions of the cards in high quality.

Variants and Fan Cards / Another Mechanic from my 2nd expansion

The King and Queen. If we are the King or Queen of our Dominion, this is our big chance to get in the game!

Quote
King (Action, $6)
+$3
Choose one: +$1 per % on your Descendancy mat, or you may trash a card from your hand or discard pile and if you did, Exile a Queen from the supply.
-
At the start of clean-up, if you have exactly one copy each of King and Queen in play, +1% to your Descendancy mat.

Quote
Queen(Action-Duration, $6)
+2 Cards
+1 Action
+1 Buy

At the start of your next turn, if you have at least 2 Queens in Exile, +$1 per Queen you have in Exile.

The King and Queen will always be in a kingdom together.  If the King is selected, the Queen is included as an extra (likely 11th) kingdom card.

The idea is to either play the combo as a pair or use the King to run through a bunch of Queens and treat them as a commodity. When you get exactly one King and Queen in play together, the King gets more powerful. You can also use the King to Exile Queens, making the Queen a more powerful card.

Variants and Fan Cards / Travelers and Gemstones
« on: February 03, 2021, 11:37:18 am »

This set of Travelers allows you, with the early cards, to sift through the Gemstone pile, positioning yourself to grab the Gemstones that you think will synergize with your Kingdom plan.  The Gemstone pile has many Gemstones that will be virtually worthless to you, but there may be some that could be very valuable.  They might also be valuable to your opponent(s), though.

The middle Travelers will allow you to "take" Gemstones. When Gemstones (the card-shaped objects in the "Gemstone pile") are "taken," they are placed in front of you.  The mid-to-late Travelers allow you to gain and use "gems."  Gems are a new token (little red diamond-shaped tokens, ideally) - when you gain one, you choose, for each one you gain, which Gemstone you put it on.

Gems are then played like Coffers in your Buy phase. However, when they get played from your Gemstones, they each have the value assigned to them by the Gemstone they are on.

Here are the Gemstones:

The Gemstone pile is facedown (even the top card).  Many Gemstones will be worthless in many Kingdoms.  The point, though, is to try to use the Travelers to help you gain the one(s) that synergize with your Kingdom plan.

Variants and Fan Cards / Dominion: Middle Ages (my fan expansion)

Hi everyone! Long time Lurker(Action, $2), but I seldom post. I've been working on building an expansion to print and play with my group. I'd appreciate any feedback you can give so that they are the best they can be when I spend the money to do this! Thanks for any comments!

Luxury cards are included in a Kingdom's supply when a card with the "Wealth" type is also in the Kingdom.  It functions as an extra pile and does not count towards the normal 10 piles.  When emptied, it does count towards the three-pile (or four-pile) victory condition.

When played, Luxury cards stay in play until the player voluntarily discards them during clean-up.

Setup: Remove the Opulence card. Add one to the number of players. Shuffle that number of copies of each differently named Luxury card into a face-down pile, then turn the top card face-up. Put the Opulence card face-up on the bottom of the pile.

Only the top card can be bought. When the top card is bought, turn the next card in the pile face-up (if it is not already).

[NOTE] post edited to change recommended plugin from Stylish to Stylus due to privacy/security concerns.

Hey guys.  First time - long time.

I finally decided I hate all the backgrounds.  You can use whatever custom art you want as the background with the Stylish Stylus plugin for Chrome, Firefox, and heck, probably even Edge.  Just install that, then you install a style that works on certain websites.  Here is a style I made that changes the background to non-intrusive green playmat texture.  I think it is very clean and makes it way easier to see what's on the table.  Let me know if you use it or want me to make styles of any other type.  Of course, it's also not hard to reverse engineer what I did here.

Here's a preview of it:

Here's a link to where you can get the style file:
