General Discussion / Going Cardboard

If you are interested in documentaries, check out Going Cardboard. Its a documentary about board games, and has a decent amount of Dominion in it. This is how and why I bought the game!

Dominion General Discussion / Interesting Accessibility Quirk
« on: June 22, 2016, 04:38:47 pm »
As someone new to Dominion, I have noticed something interesting about it in general that makes discussion kind of inaccessible to newbies:

Most articles and discussions rely on the audience having knowledge of nearly all the cards from the expansions. I know the base game very well now, but none of the expansions. And while I plan on getting the expansions, I have decided I will get one at a time instead of all at once. This way I savor it a bit more, I suppose. Don't get me wrong - I think the expansions are super cool and cannot wait to sink my teeth into them - but their presence makes discussions difficult for those 'not in the know'.

It is an odd thing. The silver lining is that every fan gets there at some point. The only other solution is for the community to discuss cards at a different level. Instead of focusing on 'Cellar', it could be binned in to a slightly broader-yet specific category of 'cycle enhancer' or 'discarder' or something similar.

Interesting. Anyways, loving this community so far. Thanks for listening.

Dominion General Discussion / [solved] Junking Estates
« on: June 22, 2016, 10:01:03 am »
Edit: Relevant discussion/article here: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=595.0
tl;dr for this post below: Estates are small change and clog up your deck early on, when Provinces dwarf them in late game. Maybe keep one around in case you are neck-and-neck even with your opponent.

Hello All.

I am relatively new to Dominion, but have certainly read and re-read a majority of the recommended articles. I now clearly understand why one would want to junk Coppers, but am still on the fence about junking Estates, and wanted some clarification.

Yes the Estates can clog up the deck, but they also contribute to the source of the win - if we are throwing out points - to a certain extent I'm not sure what we are doing. On one hand, I suppose ridding yourself of an Estate may be kind of a neutral move where now no one has that point.

Can anyone point to a very specific article about this, or sum it up for me? Thank you in advance,

Dominion FAQ / Darker-blue backed cards
« on: June 21, 2016, 04:47:08 pm »
Correct me where I'm wrong here:

The darker-blue backed kingdom cards (at least in the base set - all I have) are for use as a randomizer, right? They are essentially the '11th' of each kingdom card (obviously not to be used for general play).

What about the darker-blue backed VP and Treasure cards? What are they for? Thats what I can't figure out.

Thanks in advance,

Goko Dominion Online / [solved] Double turn in Dominion online?
« on: June 21, 2016, 03:55:04 pm »
Answer: There can be various modifiers in the campaign mode for Dominion Online. Thanks everybody.

Hello! I just started playing Dominion online today. I am only playing the campaigns so far (single player, of course).

Something odd - it seems that it is giving me double turns (two turns in a row). For example, I play Cellar, and it allows me to trash cards discard, ok. I click 'done' or whatever it says, and it then allows me to select more cards to trash discard (and of course I have not played another Cellar card or anything). Edit: I meant discard and not trash, thanks Kirian for pointing that out  :)

EDIT: I should add that I am playing the beta in the window version.

Any thoughts? It is doing this for other turns, too.

Thank you in advance,
