Goko Dominion Online / Is anyone else having this problem?
« on: December 03, 2015, 09:45:05 pm »
So this is getting pretty frustrating. I've gotten this message about 5 times in the last 8 games. It has always come on the last turn, right as I bought out the last province or the third pile. I'm not even sure if it's counting it as a win or not. Anyone else seeing this message? Is it something with my computer/browser or is it something with the site? Let me know what you guys think.

Dominion General Discussion / "Odds" question
« on: August 17, 2015, 04:10:49 pm »
If I have played 5000 games with all the cards (not counting Adventures), what are the odds that I have played the same kingdom twice?

I think for starters, I should try to recall how many kingdom cards there are altogether (not counting Adventures).

As an added bonus, at what point (after how many games) does it become a 50% chance that I have played 2 games with an identical setup?

Game Reports / Crazy Back-and-Forth Game

Check out this back and forth battle. It was a case of PPR to the max. I was lagging behind him the whole time, trying to keep up with him.

Dominion General Discussion / Name a card that fits its name
« on: April 26, 2015, 05:23:45 am »
The thread is simple: Name a card from Dominion (go ahead, throw in Promos and Adventures!) where what the card does matches up with the name of the card. No explanation is really required. One card per post; someone else must post before you post again. Have at it!

For cards that particularly do not fit the name of the card, use a strikethrough when naming it.

I'll start us off.

Game Reports / Dominion VP ....glitch?
« on: April 18, 2015, 01:49:07 am »

Code: [Select]
Forager, Monument, Salvager, Ghost Ship, Minion, Soothsayer, Trading Post, Farmland, Harem, Nobles

I had a screenshot of the final page, but as I was posting it my computer froze indefinitely. It showed (on the end-of-game panel, which I took a screenshot of) that he had 33 VP and I had 30 when I resigned. But in the chat you could see my final "#vp?" using his counter which said he had 37 and I had 30

The log above shows that the game finished 33-30...according to the number at the bottom.... but displays 37-30 along the sidebar and in the graph. I'm almost certain he would have been able to buy the last Province before I resigned, but I would probably have waited it out if I thought I was only down 33-30. I thought it was 37-30.

There's no way to gain VP mid-turn or when it's not your turn. Can someone explain what happened here??

Dominion General Discussion / Discussion about the Dominion meta
« on: April 16, 2015, 05:22:22 am »
So I've noticed lately (actually for a very long time now) that there is a significant game-within-a-game aspect to Dominion. For example:

Player A is a higher-ranked player, lets say they have a 5200 rating compared to Player B's 4100. Player B is aware of this. Player A goes first. Player B buys the same cards as Player A did. Player A buys a couple Minions and a basket of other cards. Player B buys out the rest of the Minions and then buys a couple Provinces and a Duchy to take an early lead before his deck sputters out of coins. Player A buys a Province every few turns before a mega-turn where he buys out the Provinces and wins by 18.

Player A is a higher-ranked player, lets say they have a 5200 rating compared to Player B's 4100. Player B goes first, buying a Sea Hag. Player A subconsciously strays from what he would normally buy (a Sea Hag) because he: 1) doesn't want a mirror slog game, 2) believes that lower-ranked players make suboptimal decisions, 3) wants to find the witty back-door path to victory because he feels this would be a perfect time to take advantage of a weaker opponent and showcase his intuitive skills. Player B takes the safer, slow-and-steady route common to new players. Player A eventually arrives at the cusp of parabolic greening but by then he is too far behind and tries to buy Duchies, Estates, and Great Halls but it's too late. Player B gets a lucky $9 hand and buys the last Province, winning by 17.

These are two of the interesting mindsets that often give the weaker player the advantage (or disadvantage), depending on which player succumbs. My case in point: Is there a subconscious side to every Dominion game? And if so, does it make that much of a difference?

...but this Kingdom was built to be a sloggggg.. I'm pretty sure this took 30-40 minutes to play out (felt like 2 hours) and it ended in resignation.

Was about to resign turn 9, decided to wait it out for another moment or two, then this happens. Opponent was relying on me to buy the rest of the stuff while he cannibalized his deck.. wasn't gonna happen. (Well, I guess it did, now that I think about it.)

I probably took the riskier route. How do I insert the pictures of the Kingdom cards into a forum post?

Scout: Puts the same cards in your hand that Vagrant would.

I feel like now, this would be a viable card option.

Suppose Beggar is the bane card... is there any rules regarding the order of things? I'm not much for the pedantics sometimes (I'll let Goko figure it out for me). Can you reveal for bane AND discard for silvers?

Dominion General Discussion / What would you change about Dominion?
« on: March 21, 2015, 01:50:16 am »
Name a radical change in the rules or layout that would work to change the game significantly or at least make for an interesting thought exercise.

For example, what if you added 4 Provinces to every game? What would a high level game look like? A low level game?

Variants and Fan Cards / Diplomat - $5 duration card
« on: March 18, 2015, 06:42:51 am »
Action - Duration
Discard a card.
+1 Action
+3 cards
At the end of your turn, pass this card to the player on your left.
+1 card +1 action [for the player to your left]

Basically I just threw some random vanilla stuff together with an arbitrary price because I was interested in the idea of passing an essentially one-shot card to the player to your left when you are done with your turn, where they will receive an advantage on their ensuing turn. I'm just looking for a practical application of the idea.

No actual game report, sorry. I have to admit I thought this was a big money board. I was up 3 colonies to 0.

Final score:
Dingan - 81
Flip5ide - 31

Rules Questions / Treasure Map + TR/KC
« on: February 03, 2015, 03:15:55 am »
If I have 3 Treasure maps (or 4 if it makes a difference), is there any way to use Throne Room to an advantage?

So I'm at 5000 pro rating, playing this guy with 2900. I WON this game 11 to -4 by absolutely crushing this guy with torturer, merchant guild, and some sort of cheap village (and chapel I think). I suggested this guy just resign after my second round of drawing my whole hand with 4-5 torturers and 2 merchant guilds.

And he does.

The rating screen takes unusually long to load, and after it does I notice it deducted me 54 rating. Thanks..

I sent an email via MakingFun's submit a report page and they got back to me saying that they are not able to adjust ratings. I also didn't get a screenshot because I clicked to the lobby before I realized what had happened. Nonetheless, as final score is not a factor to determine rating, this is obviously a glitch. I'm just posting this to vent a little.

Rules Questions / Inn + Watchtower top-deck reveal

Is this one of those situations where you get to decide which happens first, of the "on-gain" effects? What exactly can happen here?

Rules Questions / HoP + Counterfeit

Can you gain 2 victory cards? Does the lose track rule have anything to do with this situation (I'm not much for abstraction).

Rules Questions / Explorer, Beggar, Mine, IGG, etc. +Possession
« on: August 09, 2014, 01:03:21 pm »
So this is just a quick question. Do you pull out the cards that were gained into hand whether they end up set aside/trashed, in the discard, or even *Gasp* back in their deck?? That seems weird but the wording of Possession would lead me to believe so.
"Any cards he would gain on that turn, you gain instead; any cards of his that are trashed are set aside and returned to his discard pile at end of turn."

But at the same time its returned to their discard pile if trashed. What about cards that are gained AND trashed on a possession turn?

Not really going to post on here or look through the articles (or try to play online, all of this just to keep it "fresh" still) till I've played more games of Innovation, but the rulebook seemed to have some obvious gaps in it.

A "couple" questions:

1. Is sharing an opponent's action optional if you have the icons to do it?

1b. What about I demand actions? Optional to follow or you simply have to or can't depending on the icon difference?

2a. Is splaying even useful? I'm guessing it's sort of an advanced thing. 99% of the time it's pointless. Unless...

2b. If you splay your cards to the right or left, then go the opposite way, do you end up with a different top card?

2c. I assume this doesn't happen if you go from splaying right to splaying up.

2d. What if I wanted to splay my cards down?
