Game Reports / Swindler + Curser

I tried this in today's match vs Mic (Thanks for streaming Mic) and wondered what other people think of giving copper with Swindler?
http://www.twitch.tv/mic_qsenoch/c/5858173
game starts @ 1.15.
http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150111/log.51201cbee4b04e88c8da4f9a.1420997416990.txt

Turn 9, @ 1.22
I give Mic a Copper with Swindler on the following logic.
I have a Soothsayer so I want the Curses left in the supply.

The result was my Soothsayer got hit by Swindler, then I was 1 point short of the win on Turn 19!
Game also features Adventurer for the Goko statistics thread!

My favourite board in a long time, thought I would share.
A cool feature of using rats as part of the 3 pile ending is the control it gives you in the end game.
I draw better than average in the above game, but it does show several really nice tricks.

I was surprised by the interactions in this game.

It looks like the Band of Misfits was set aside as a duration (caravan), but it doesn't draw you a card next turn?

Game Reports / Crazy 10 turn game
« on: June 05, 2013, 03:56:10 pm »
Just played this very powerful board:
Shows the importance of playing for the 3 pile win whenever possible.

http://dom.retrobox.eu/?/20130605/log.5101a6c4e4b02b7235c3860f.1370461387761.txt
Squire, Scrying Pool, Forager, Market Square, Wishing Well, Baron, Remake, Highway, Border Village, King's Court

I wasn't sure what to open (Squire or Forager?) but my 5/2 split made the decision for me.
I draw remake + squire together T4 giving me a early lead.

Combos:
Trashing + market square
Trashing + Squire to gain Scrying Pools
Remake + Highway
KC, + Buy, Highway

Dominion UK Championship.
http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/game.php?id=BOR344

Was expecting a better turn out but I guess with the nice weather some people stayed home.
(45 tickets pre sold) about 24 players in the event.

I'm from a competitive Magic past, so I guess this event wasn't really targeted at me.
3 rounds of 4 player Base set, followed by a Top 4. Duplicate random boards for each table.
8 points for a win
4 for second
2 for third
1 for 4th
Ties broken by total VP.
Random pairings each round apart for the Top4 cut.

The format wasn't quite to my liking, but was a good fun days Dominion.
Nice to play with "real" cards for a change.

Round 1

"Grab 3 other players that you don't know and play"
Moat, Village, Thief, Gardens, Feast, Witch, Market, Festival, (Adventure? + 1 more)

I have played only a handful of non 2 player games.
So I wasn't really sure what to do here.
I go for Feast Silver. (I guess this should be Feast Moat?)
I use feast for a festival when 2 players go heavy thief.
I then add 3 moats one Witch and a Village 2nd Festival and a Market (should have been a festival).
The 2 Thief players get buried in curses and copper.
I win the garden split 7 / 4 / 1 and with it the game.
1-0

Round 2

This is basically the 1st player set. (Throne Room instead of Militia)
Cellar, Moat, Village, Workshop, Remodel, Smithy, Throne Room, Council Room, Market, + 1 more card.
2 players go for BM + Smithy, 1 for Smith opening into Village + Smithy + TR + Money.
I build the mega engine, opening Remodel + Workshop.
Build to $17 double prov turn.
Next turn is Smithy into $8, followed by:
Draw deck, workshop for a TR, draw it, TR a remodel plus remodel on 3 golds for 3 Provence, buy the last Provence, with 0 actions, 0 coins and 2 buys spare.
2-0

Game 3
Moat, Woodcutter, Gardens, Thief, Throne Room, Remodel, Militia, Smithy, Witch, Library.
Another Witch + gardens slog.

I open, Woodcutter + Remodel, Grab 4 moats, a thief and a throne room.
Every one buys to many terminals and gets bogged down in curses, I win with 6 garden and 45 cards.
3-0

Final

Moat, Chapel, Village, Thief, Gardens, Smithy, Lab, Witch, more...
More Witch gardens, but this time the only +gain is Thief.
P1 BM Smithy + Witch, 29 vp
P2 Thief + Witch +Gardens, 4 gardens, 45 cards, Estates + Curses = 17 vp (more a few more turns and this gets close.
P3 Me, Chapel down to 6 card Village, Chapel, Silver, Silver, Silver, Moat
I add a witch, several Golds 5 Provence, a duchy and 1 curse for 32
My moat saves me from a lots of attacks, I get lucky to have it in hand at all the right times.
P4 Chapels down as well, but with 2 moats, no witch, lab. Gets unlucky to lose only gold to Thief so is a turn behind me.
4-0

Many thanks to all the players and organisers for a well run friendly event.

Game Reports / Wharf + X? (Rabid 43 vs Stef 44)
« on: September 08, 2012, 08:19:48 am »
I though I would post this log from this very close wharf game.
Comments or discussion on our play are welcomed.

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201209/08/game-20120908-043756-895e80d7.html
Festival, Inn, Lighthouse, Mining Village, Monument, Mountebank, Native Village, Oracle, Watchtower, and Wharf

I can see several ways to play this board:
Wharf + Money
Wharf + villages
Wharf + villages + monument
Wharf + villages + Mountbank
With added lighthouse (either before or after opponent goes mountbank)
Watchtower + festival + villages + monuments

With any of the engines you also have to decide on single or double Provence.
And when to trash Mining villages can be tricky. (I drew mine dead on T16)
Also in wharf mirror matches watching the 3 pile ending is important as you both have lots of +buy.

I open Monument / Lighthouse against Oracle / Silver
In hindsight I think Monument silver would have been better, I missed that you can buy lighthouse with the + buy from wharf. Making it easier than normal to add lighthouse after they waste (?) a buy on the attack card.

On my Turn 9 with $11, I buy wharf + MV+ NV, I think this should have been either Prov + silver or Wharf + gold.

I go for single buy prov on turns, 11, 13, 14, 17
Stef goes for double buying prov+ prov on 14, 15 buying Prov + duchy + MV, 18 double duchy, 19 prov.
Careful counting on turn 18 by stef can take a draw with prov + duchy, but takes double duchy (no estate) if he buys the estate I win with 2 estates on my turn 19, then Stef wins by 1 on turn 19.

Tournaments and Events / One day Cup / Feed back
« on: May 05, 2012, 06:16:55 pm »
Hi All

Many thanks to the 24 players that attended for a long days playing of Dominion.
So who wants to play again?
I have a few ideas to make this run more smoothly next time.

The more important being to have a sign up confirmation 10 minutes before we start, if you miss it you are out.
I might limit the event to 16 players as well, as this has taken 11 hours so far. (final is still in progress).
Or we could try different event structures?

I should have been clearer with "7) Log off / on to reset the start player rules before each match "
A match is the best of N games, so you only need to reset before each new opponent, NOT between each game.

Also I think I was a bit optimistic playing in the event in the future I think we need a dedicated admin.

Time of the event, this was to early for the USA, and is finishing too late in EU.
Maybe split into 2 groups, and play a grand final on Sunday?

Any other ideas or feedback would be great.

Rabid

Tournaments and Events / 1 Day Iso, Interest check

Hi All

I'm thinking of trying to run a 1 day double elimination event.
Probably Saturday 5th May, 13.00 UK time. (GMT + 1 daylight saving time)
Or this that too early for those in the USA?
Please let me know if this would be of interest?
EDIT: not expecting anyone to commit, just trying to get an idea if this is viable.
Any feedback on the rules or other ideas for improvement would be great.

1) Final match to be first to 5 game wins, semifinal, 4 wins, other rounds 3 wins.
2) Match can be played in any mutually agreed format but defaulting to the following:
3) Identical starting hands OFF

Chapel, Bishop, Lighthouse, means you can pull of the golden deck even against attacks.
I waited slightly too long to add the light house, but it was still really good.

Help! / Is having a plan B a good idea?
« on: January 12, 2012, 04:14:06 pm »
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201201/12/game-20120112-130012-f53411ee.html

Colony, Crossroads, Envoy, Herbalist, Hoard, Mandarin, Mint, Platinum, Rabble, Thief, Wharf, and Workshop

I opened Silver / Silver, planing to go heavy Wharf plus a few Crossroads.
Unfortunately I drew $4 on both turns 3 & 4, I didn't think I could win the mirror at this point.
Was I correct to change plans and go for Envoy BM instead?

Also, did I buy too many hoards?
Should my Turn 14 colony be a Provence, in an attempt to end the game asap?

Help! / Chapel / Conspirator vs Chapel / Silver
« on: January 05, 2012, 05:43:11 pm »
Crazy board with: Black Market, Chapel, Conspirator, Envoy, Expand, King's Court, Potion, Silk Road, Smugglers, Trader, and Transmute, Native Village (Bane for YW). (YW only curser in BM)

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201201/05/game-20120105-143127-27ef8369.html

I played badly on the last two turns, forgetting you can draw the card you have just expanded, then miss counted the fairgrounds to loose by 1 point.

Question is which opening is better here: Chapel / Conspirator vs Chapel / Silver ?

Anything else I could improve on?
