I was playing a league Match where I am currently leading the division and I could easily see one game making a difference in whether I promote or not. So basically, the stakes are high here and that makes it even worse.

Kingdom:

Code: [Select]
Native Village, Scrying Pool, Develop, Oracle, Woodcutter, Trader, Catacombs, Mine, Border Village, Grand Market
I open develop potion and go for a scrying pool engine. I need to get Border Villages and Grand Markets but have trouble hitting 5 or 6 for a while. My opponent fairs slightly better in a similar strategy and is about to kick off a massive turn. Scrying Pools and Native Villages run out and I see an opportunity. There are only 4 woodcutters left in the supply and I have 2 estates left to my opponent's 0 and I have enough actions with Develop, Catacombs, 2 woodcutters, a silver and 4 coppers in hand with a couple coins from other cards. I see that if I develop my Catacombs I can gain a woodcutter and I can play the other 2 woodcutters to get 3 buys. I also will have a bit more than 9 coins so bam! I can get a 3 pile ending. I recalculate a few times to make sure and then go for it.

I play the develop, gain the woodcutter. Then I play the woodcutters and "Play All Treasures" and start buying the woodcutters, but there is one woodcutter left on my last buy and somehow I only have 2 coins. What has happened? I double and triple counted how could this be?

Well when I "played all treasures" it only played my silver and not my coppers because Grand Market was on the board and the coppers would block it. Of course, once I start buying I can't play my treasures anymore. I let my opponent know what happens, he sympathizes but just says that misclicks are part of the game sometimes.  So I grab an estate with my two coins and he kicks off and easily gets more points and buys the last woodcutter to finish the game.

This was a pretty crushing misclick and I just wanted to share it. Man that was tough. I mean, I know mislicks midgame can also mean the game but this one really stopped me from winning in a league match when I had it in hand. Was just too focussed on making sure I counted correctly and forgot all about grand markets and the fact that "Play All Treasures" doesn't actually mean "Play All Treasures"

Dominion Videos and Streams / Adam and Wero play Adventures
« on: March 28, 2016, 05:14:04 pm »
I think this is the first time there is video of this. It is only the developer build, so not open to the public yet. Hopefully soon, it looks so fun.

Game Reports / Really fun Adventures Board
« on: March 23, 2016, 09:08:55 am »
Played this IRL and it was super fun.

Treasure Trove and King's Courted, Pathfound Magpies were really strong. Many other cards were very important though. Ended up quite ahead on a less experienced opponent, but I think on an equally leveled match the endgame would be really complicated here. Travelling Fair as the only +buy was interesting.

Can't wait for adventures to get online so I can have more games like this.

Game Reports / Swindler/Big Money vs Weird Procession tricks

Supply: Embargo, Develop, Masterpiece, Swindler, Procession, Scavenger, Catacombs, Counterfeit, Graverobber, Saboteur, Copper, Silver, Gold, Estate, Duchy, Province, Curse

No villages, no + action even, but there was Procession, Graverobber and Develop, which can all do some really weird tricks.

I went Swindler big money and thought that what my opponent was doing was really random and unfocussed but it did surprisingly okay against what I had. They used Procession, Graverobbers, Rogues and Sabs to attack my deck and I thought that would never work.  I did end up winning but it was much closer than I thought and maybe there is a better strategy on this board than just Swindler + Big Money with Counterfeit trashing.

PS, Late game I bought Gold on 6 and 7 sometimes and was thinking about buying an overpaid masterpiece instead but thought that getting my Swindlers to hit was more advantageous.  In the end I converted a couple of his Curses into Coppers with Swindler but I am pretty sure the likelihood of that happening was pretty low.

Anyways, what are your thoughts on this board and how my opponent and I played it?

So I think what Adam was trying to do was actually a good thing and really trying to solve the problem, however, using forum responses to gather data is really difficult.  I made a simple form that I think is a much better way to get this data and you can reply to this thread with your comments about the form, about the automatch problem or even about otters if you want.

Data collection form
Form Results

I have made the Isotropish stuff optional, but I think that data can really help if you take the time to check there.  Not sure if anyone will use this for real, but thought I would try to help Adam out with what he was trying to do. I realize it is near impossible to get the ranking of your opponent, so you can leave that blank if you can't find it. Hopefully the MakingFun people can tell from the gamelog if the two players are properly ranked or not.

Goko Dominion Online / Can Salvager detect if opponent is on iPad?
« on: October 01, 2014, 05:38:52 am »
I love playing dominion on my iPad.  There is, as is commonly known, one very large flaw with it though, in that you cannot access the chat window.  This makes me feel really bad when a user says "hello good luck!" or something and I can't respond, but even worse than tact is when it affects things because of the chrome extension.

The main thing is that when an opponent with the extension turns on the vp counter, it puts me at a real disadvantage since I can't access the counter in any way.  This happened to me recently in a vineyards game and I think wound up allowing my opponent to nab the tie when I may have been able to prevent it otherwise (http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140930/log.5163198ce4b0ad9d0694acf9.1412108829010.txt).

I thought of a couple solutions to this.  One is that I always put #vpoff in games I create, but this makes it so I can never join someone else's game.  I was wondering if there is any way to detect the browser of the opponent and auto type some message from them saying that they are on a mobile device and can't chat and automatically keep vpoff.  My gut tells me this is impossible, but just in case it is, it may be a cool feature to add.

A totally separate discussion is there some standardized thing to put in the game title to tell everyone that I can't chat because I'm on an iPad?  nochat (seems like I don't want to chat, rather than I can't chat), iPad (not sure if everyone is aware of the iPad issue so I don't know if that is effective).

So the first player should switch A-B-B-A-A-B, but Goko doesn't let you choose who goes first.  However, if you are incorrectly set to go first can't you just skip your first turn (do nothing, buy nothing) and let the opponent go first without having to restart games annoyingly all the time?

I realize the one drawback is on a tied-score Goko may incorrectly call it a draw or a win, but if you keep track of that yourself (and play unrated games) then it shouldn't really matter right?  Would this be acceptable?  I am trying to think of a case where it would be a problem but I am not sure.  It is really annoying to keep restarting games when the wrong person starts first.

Rules Questions / Trashing potions on a mint buy
« on: July 01, 2013, 04:17:15 am »
I am pretty sure I have this right, but I am just checking.  On a mint, you "trash all treasure cards in play".  I played a board last night against my dad where there was Golem, Familiar and Mint.  I decided to get the potion to pick up Golem and Familiar and then I wanted to get rid of my potion.  So then I had a turn that added up to enough to buy a mint, but I had a potion in my hand.  I thought it should be fine to put the potion "in play" even if I don't buy anything with it, but I wasn't quite sure.  My dad later played a terminal silver action and 4 coppers to buy a mint so he could trash all those coppers even though he only needed 3 of them.  In the rules it says you can put all treasures in play and buy anything of equal or lesser value, so I think this is fair play, but I just wanted to make sure.

Rules Questions / Golem+Card Draws/+Actions
« on: May 25, 2013, 07:39:29 pm »
So I can't quite figure this one out.  Let's say you play a Golem and you draw two laboratories.  On the first laboratory you draw two coppers and then on the second one you draw 2 Monuments.  Can you play both Monuments or only one of them at this point?

I know for Throne room the description says you must carry out all actions to their conclusion before doing the next, but Golem has no such description.  So if you throne roomed your Lab then you could only play one of those Monuments, not sure what happens with Golem though.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I looked around and couldn't find a similar question.

Hey everyone, I am new to this board.

I looked around but couldn't find this particular answer.  The Governor says the following

"+1 Action
Choose one; you get the version in parentheses: Each player gets +1 (+3) Cards; or each player gains a Silver (Gold); or each player may trash a card from his hand and gain a card costing exactly $1 ($2) more."

When using the Trash option, I noticed something a bit weird, this particularly regards trashing curses.  For the player who plays governor, you can trash a curse for a card costing 2 (Estate or some Kingdom card for example).  But, at least in my Kingdoms, there are no cards costing $1.  The rule specifically states that other players "may trash a card from his hand and gain a card costing exactly $1 more".  What if there are no cards costing exactly $1 more?  Are you not allowed to trash that card?  Can you trash that card and gain nothing?  We decided that other players were not allowed to trash their curses (or coppers since they have the same problem) when someone plays a Governor, but would love to get your answer to this.

Thanks.
