All the boons are pretty good. It's annoying how you can't predict them, but still, you should probably be finding ways to take them.

Dominion General Discussion / autoplay gotchas
« on: January 24, 2018, 11:52:31 pm »
Autoplay is great. Occasionally, it is terrible.

This sounds like one of those puzzles, but I discarded a Faithful Hound with an Inn the other day after having drawn my thin deck, planning to draw it back with a cantrip, and it got set aside; I needed it to trigger my Magic Lamp (maybe it was Leprechaun) and lost. (It's not a true gotcha in that I also could have discarded some other stuff, had I been smarter).

Any other autoplay problems? I've turned autoplay off for the travelers; making the decision matters too often.

I suspect it's healthiest to play with most of the autoplays off, except Crown, Changeling, and Coin of the Realm. The problem is that you don't realize "hey, this is one of those boards where I might not always reveal my Moat" until your opponent plays the attack you didn't want to reveal Moat to.

Dominion General Discussion / How good is Goat?
« on: December 23, 2017, 02:35:15 pm »
My sense is that Goat is a phenomenal card. Even if it didn't start in your deck, it utterly smokes, say, Loan. Is it worth skipping Chapel if Goat's on the board? Skipping masquerade?

Dominion General Discussion / ambassador + groundskeeper
« on: December 19, 2017, 09:02:41 am »
Apologies if this has been discussed before. Playing on an Ambassador board with limited +buy (bridge troll, but no extra actions, so max 3 buys on a turn, and then one foregoes playing Ambassador that turn). Groundskeepers split 5-5. My opponent resigned, but it isn't clear he was behind. Strategies for advancing such a board? I stupidly closed the window and have forgotten one of the kingdom cards:

Pilgrimage

Groundskeeper
Den of Sin
Bridge Troll
Advisor
Skulk
Secret Cave (+Magic Lamp/Wishes)
Wishing Well
Ambassador
Beggar

Dominion General Discussion / list your big nocturne secrets
« on: December 11, 2017, 09:48:04 pm »
i'll start

Ghost is good but it's so much work to get with either haunted mirror or exorcist. in the former case the fact that there's only one can be really painful. I'm just not sure ghost is worth it. Still, really good card.

Wishes on the other hand, man, that magic lamp.

Rules Questions / River's Gift + Forest's Gift
« on: December 10, 2017, 03:08:34 pm »
These two boons are to be kept until cleanup. What is the practical effect of this? Does it affect how many times you may receive the same boon? Does it mean that your opponent can "steal" the boon? Or is it pure reminder?

Rules Questions / Blessed Village + Moon's Gift + Changeling
« on: December 10, 2017, 12:43:32 pm »
In reading the log below, am I correct that rphilip could take a Changeling for free (i.e. not give up the Blessed Village)? He tries to exchange, but Changeling's abstract ability has lost the possibility of finding Blessed Village? Or does "exchange" necessarily require the trade to actually take place?

Turn 1 - rphilip
r plays 4 Coppers.
r buys and gains a Blessed Village.
r takes The Moon's Gift.
r receives The Moon's Gift
r looks at a card.
Changeling loses track of Blessed Village (it moved).
r topdecks a card.
r discards The Moon's Gift.
r draws 5 cards.

Rules Questions / Prince + Necromancer
« on: October 30, 2017, 11:51:19 pm »
If Prince is in the trash, Necromancer-as-Prince can't be set aside, so in particular, can't set a card from your hand aside, right? This is consistent with the online implementation, but I'm not sure what the underlying principle is. (It's something like: Necromancer's specific instruction to leave Prince in the trash outweighs Prince's instruction to set Prince aside.)

Game Reports / Counting House without Traveling Fair or Mountebank
« on: September 12, 2017, 08:41:40 am »
Here's a board where I went for Counting House. I got very good shuffle luck, but I still think it was the right move. Can anyone think of a better strategy? I would note that Magpie and Border Village gave significant shuffle control, which made it easier to avoid the dreaded "Counting House on top of the shuffle and now I gotta wade through 6 turns of copper" problem.

game #6795959. Estates, no Colony/Platinum.

Dominion General Discussion / Minion vs. Diplomat
« on: September 12, 2017, 06:57:11 am »
When the opponent plays Minion and you use Diplomat's reaction, note that you will have 4 cards in hand, so you are immune from the Minion attack. One might say that you have.... diplomatic immunity from it.

Dominion General Discussion / Farmer's Market + Defiled Shrine
« on: August 22, 2017, 06:12:48 am »
This is an interesting pair of cards to dance around. With Defiled Shrine, you can deprive the opponent of the ability to cash the Farmer's Market for points by buying a Farmer's Market when there are four tokens. I played a game just now with these two and Villa, which somewhat eliminated the usual consequences of overbuying Farmer's Market. Strange times!

Rules Questions / Do you have the right to shuffle your hand?
« on: February 10, 2017, 03:26:38 pm »
Jackie plays Artisan, gaining a Silver. She wants to topdeck the Silver, but she doesn't want her opponent to know that she is doing this. I believe that in the Shuffle It implementation, she nonetheless shows that she is doing so (unless she has a different Silver she can topdeck, of course). Is this correct?

Rules Questions / when does the action phase change to the buy phase?
« on: February 08, 2017, 04:58:27 am »
Example: Sarah Crowns a Crown, first Crowning a Smithy, and draws only treasure. My understanding is that she cannot say "this is now my buy phase, and so I will use the second play of Crown on this Gold." Is this correct?

The wiki says further that if Sarah Princes a Crown (somehow), she cannot say at the start of her turn "this is now my buy phase, so I will Crown this Gold."

What is the precise rule for when her buy phase starts? (i.e. when does she have the power to say, "this is my buy phase.")
