Dominion General Discussion / forcing a tie?
« on: September 14, 2011, 09:49:11 pm »
So I've been in several situations where I had to decide to force a tie or proceed and go for the win.  I was wondering what others on the board thought of this.

You're behind on provinces, duchies are just about done.  You finally struggle to get back up to $8 and if you buy the last province you know you will tie, but you don't think you can last or you're pretty sure your opponent's next turn is going to be a doozy.

Philosophical question: Should you always be striving for a win, is a tie better than a loss or something else?

Dominion Articles / Courtyard/Venture or Loan
« on: September 10, 2011, 11:41:41 am »
Pretty simple but quite effective combo:

Play courtyard with venture or loan in your hand (any card that forces you to find something in your deck would work, so Golem works as well, but requires additional actions).  When courtyard forces you to replace a card on your deck, replace a card that you know will be discarded such as an action that you can't play or a victory card of some sort.  The venture/loan will cause the replaced card to be discarded and therefore streamlining your draws in the future.

That's some good science.

Feedback / Isotropic feedback?
« on: June 23, 2011, 10:07:53 pm »
Is there a more efficient way than posting here to give isotropic feedback?  I was wondering if there's anyway to add some preset kingdom cards to isotropic.  I'm going to be teaching some people to play in the future and I'd like to start with 'first game' or some such from the instruction book.

Dominion General Discussion / Pirate Ship in 3+ player games.
« on: June 16, 2011, 07:08:34 am »
Pirate Ship in 2 player games is pretty bad and probably should be avoided as a buy.   Pirate Ship in 3+ player games seems to me to be so overpowering as a strategy that it gets promoted to 'must buy'.

Not too much analysis here, just talking from experience.  I tried to slog through a friendly game by eliminating all the treasure from my deck before my opponents pirate shipped it all, but since they ended up getting tokens from each other I was left behind.

Anyhow, rant off for now.  I just wanted to hate on pirate ship.
