Dark Ages Previews / Re: Dark Ages combo ideas
« on: August 27, 2012, 04:15:43 pm »
I've played a few of the recommended sets of 10 and found some interesting combos!

Bandit Camp/Scavenger is useful to get the Spoils right on top of your deck.

Armory/Feodum/Rats for an instant 3 silvers

Wandering Minstrel/Scrying Pool helped draw my whole deck a turn.

Altar/Highway for instant Provinces.

Just played 3 games with the new set.  Thanks DxV for making this and providing us with the secret histories!

I'd like to see an expansion that has all promo cards, which will hopefully be numerous going into the future.

Also on another note, getting rid of blank cards and randomisers for base cards, there's enough room in the Base Set and Seaside for another Kingdom card. I wonder if that fact will ever be taken advantage of in future printings? It'd be cool if future printings of these sets came with a promo card. Hell, it would be cool if all future printings of all sets had something better than blank cards in them. I don't know what you could do with prosperity's single blank card, although there are ideas for single card kingdoms out there. I'm sure there are kingdom cards with smaller supply sizes (similar to how rats is larger) that could fit in Intrigue and Hinterlands. I'd then like to see those cards all pop up in this "treasure chest".

I would be upset if they did that and didn't make the new cards available some other way.  I don't want to have to rebuy a set for one new card!

Time Warp Comics in Cedar Grove has it!  I grabbed the first copy!  Just finished playing a few games!  What a great set of cards, though I found Wandering Mintrel to be a trap with no actions that give +$.  It's never fun discarding your golds ;-(

A bold prediction, Knights will SUCK if there is a card that has a beneficial when trashed effect (ie fortress) or Tunnel is on board.

Tunnel may not be the best defence to Knights. Tunnel/Copper means Tunnel is trashed and gains you no Gold.

I think Insomniac has the right of it here: Knights discard and then trash. So Knight hitting Tunnel/Copper trashes the Tunnel, but you do get the Gold.

The card says reveal->trash->discard.  Tunnel does not activate in that scenario

It would be a perfect set to go along with the official storage solution!

I don't get why Goko is having such trouble!  Days of Wonder has Ticket to Ride available for Macs, PCs, and iOS devices, all playing against each other.  I think they even have a browser version!  I'm really excited for online Dominion, but really!

It's definitely worth doing a set/expansion at a time.  It's hard to play with casual friends because knowing the cards is a huge advantage.  When I play base against my one friend it's always close because she has the unofficial iPhone app and knows those cards, but when I introduce expansion cards she gets overwhelmed and usual sticks to te base cards or attempts to mirror my strategy. That's why I'm excited about Goko, buying half expansions at a time will really help the people I play with learn the cards much more easily.  This way when we play IRL they know the cards an aren't overwhelmed and just copying my buys!

Young Witch/Bane?  I don't know if that will change the VPs but it does change the number of available cards.

When I first heard about guilds, I thought about "Village Guild" or "Library Guild" which have an effect like "All cards played after this card have +Action or + 1 Card added to the beginning of their text."

Maybe we'll get some more clues from the Dark Age secret history.  All those cards that "were moved to later set" we haven't seen in DA must be in Guilds!

I think Dame is a "knight" card and there are 10 of them!!! Men and women!  This set is amazing and a complete game changer!  No wonder this is DxV's favorite set!

Maybe that's "the second madman"

Its a card that upgrades itself to different people!

I originally though that but her cost is 5 not 0*

Dame Ann and Beggar!  On the BGG Goko promo.  Beggar is a reaction and Dame Ann looks like a Looter!

It would be out every game with a looter, so it would always have value. Maybe that makes your suggestion more compelling. The +1 buy would be the same way- only ok on a select few boards, but still bad.

About shelters being out with looters:  I really hope not.  ~80 cards that only come out when at least 1 of three possible cards is in the supply? I'd rather have 7 new kingdom cards.

You could use a madman more than ten times if it keeps getting returned to the supply instead of trash.  Retread the cards and explanation.
