Dominion General Discussion / Re: Turn 1 Noble Brigand
« on: June 11, 2013, 05:52:56 pm »
I'm not sure how this even happened... NB looks at the top two cards of your deck, not your discard pile. So how on his first turn was the silver already back on top of your deck?
At the end of his turn, he drew the remaining 5 cards. Then there are no cards in his deck, and 6 in the discard pile. NB then calls for the top two cards of the deck, and since the deck is empty, the discard gets reshuffled and put back on the deck.

Thanks, was not thinking about it that hard apparently!

How will the Qvist rankings work for these 'overpay bonus' cards.... you can rank this as a $4, but that would imply no overpay bonus, a big reason for buying this card. At $5, you can grab one card from your discard and put on top of your deck... and at $6, you can grab two cards and so forth. So I think there are meaningful comparisons to be made at each price point. How does paying 6 for this compare to gold, when you factor in the overpay bonus? Yes, I realize that the price is technically 4, but if you are paying 6 for it to get a specific bonus, then the price is essentially 6, same as gold, adventurer, etc.

Goko Dominion Online / Re: so this is out?

All was going well until late in a single player vs. computer game and I played village and it did not let me play anything or end my turn. I was able to click on different cards to view them but not continue in my turn. I see now that it appears to be totally down so maybe it was taken offline as I was in the middle of the game.

Being my first time playing I was actually fairly impressed.... the speed issues people have been talking about either have been fixed or I don't need it as fast as some. I had it on slow and normal. I think the '+' symbols for gaining cards should be larger (you'll be clicking to add a card much more often than clicking to examine a card IMO). It could also organize your hand (place treasures together) I think. And it did hang on me, but overall pleased.

I agree with your concerns.  The malware redirect thing is allegedly being fixed today - but frankly with that error and others - I see no way of feeling confident that that's the only place that its a problem.  I'm looking forward to seeing how goko addresses that question on 8/22.

What happens 8/22?

Iso disappears, and they have a shitstorm of hardcore Dominion players with nowhere else to go...

actually I think he meant when the questions are answered from the 'Ask FunSockets anything' thread http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=4080.0

McKayla Maroney :(

Can someone explain the joke here?

"McKayla Maroney is not impressed" is I guess what they are calling this.
not impressed with silver (she was expected and expecting to win Gold)... not impressed with Madman (needs +buy, according to her, to be helpful)

Blah, Monday needs to get here.  Do we think Shelters and/or Ruins will be revealed?

Funny that we can't wait for the weekend to be over....

Dominion Articles / Re: Remodel
« on: July 27, 2012, 12:25:15 pm »
Ok. Here we go: If I'm reading it right, this says that if you have 3 governors or more, then a single remodel makes the deck stronger. I could be wrong, of course, I suck an interpreting stats:

http://councilroom.com/optimal_card_ratios?card_x=Governor&card_y=Remodel

I guess the better way to do this is to simulate, but I don't know if anyone has got to simulating Governor well yet. Also, opening Remodel on a Governor board seems dumb, so I couldn't say for sure when the best time to buy/gain it would be.

It looks to me (and I may be reading it wrong as well) that only when you have 4 or 7 Governors does this table indicate that a single Remodel helps (1.08 to 1.09, and 1.31 to 1.34 respectively). Again I may not be reading it right.

For final ratio, it looks like indeed 7 governors and 1 remodel is best.

Congratulations to the winners!

I was kind of hoping one of the Treasure cards would win, though (esp. Jewels/Sarah). Maybe there will be a Treasure Challenge in the future? It seems like there is space there for some interesting stuff!

Also, rinkworks, what is the policy of submitting losing cards to future contests? I would like the opportunity to vote for some of the losers again in another category.

A Treasure card challenge is pretty much obligatory, I think, so yeah.  As for resubmitting cards that lose, why not?  I think someone already did it, actually, so there is precedent.

Isn't this contradictory to one of the posted submission rules?
"* A single card might conceivably qualify for multiple challenges within this series.  However, you may not submit the same card for more than one challenge."

2- Dice are the most expensive (he has a new dice-type game that sounds amazing: The die-building ecquivalent to the deck-building of Dominion. Very cool. You actually change the dice during the game!)

Can't wait to hear more about this one... are we to assume that Donald is not behind this? He mentioned on BGG that he does have a new game that should be announced shortly... http://boardgamegeek.com/article/9657077#9657077

Mini-Set Design Contest / Re: Mini-Set Design Contest, Part 2!
« on: July 03, 2012, 01:00:52 pm »
I'd prefer a week of entries and then the following week be voting/results, so that entries and voting are not overlapping. The contest as presented now seems a bit rushed and is something that would certainly still hold my interest if it was slowed down a bit.

Actually I think I'd prefer if instead of two new contests each week, there was just one. So the first week we would have just had one contest, then the 2nd week we'd have the voting/results for the first contest and opportunity to enter the 2nd contest. Essentially it cuts the work in half for all involved but each week there is still a new contest.

I love when it when Donald responds to silly discussions like this to hit us with something really interesting. Kinda like when I asked if he'd ever played against the KC/Masq pin and he posted a (lengthy) summary of all the crazy things he'd seen while playtesting cards that we'll never see because they were that crazy.

Do you have a link for that? It seems like it would be fun to read :)
