Dominion Isotropic / Re: Decline of civility on isotropic?
« on: June 19, 2011, 10:37:25 pm »
I fail to see why someone wouldn't mention hf, or rather, wouldn't consider hf meaningful. Is anyone on isotropic making money off of a high ranking or w/l ratio? Is anyone earning remarkable accolades and fame within the higher circles of the world? Unless there's some unknown massive following for isotropic games, or there's some secret benefactor paying the top players, no one is earning anything from playing Dominion other than enjoyment and some sense of self-accomplishment. If you're not going to have fun, then why in the world are you playing this game?

As soon as the game is not fun, stop playing. Conversely, keep playing as long as you enjoy it. Good luck and have fun :D

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Is Golem worth it ?
« on: June 19, 2011, 10:14:08 pm »
I've played with Golem before where I only have two other actions (say Mountebank and Militia), and it ensures I hit those attacks every time I land a Golem. That's only one scenario, but you can see how effective Golem is at getting your key cards the most plays.

Feedback / Re: Dominion Card Beneath User Name????

theory's representative card will forever be chapel.

I personally would love to be Tactician. Seaside is my favorite expansion and I find the design on Tactician just perfect.

Agreed. I think Tactician might be one of my favorite card arts.

Variants and Fan Cards / Re: Make up your own card?
« on: June 16, 2011, 04:19:12 pm »
My friends and I have toyed around with the idea of having a card that grants a lot of money, or cards, at the price of actions that you currently have. We never got around to designing an actual card, but the we toss it around every now and then.

Introductions / Re: Who am I? Why am I here?

I know the perfect person for you :) -->

I have a habit of becoming wrapped up in something if I am interested in it (as of recently, Dominion). Right now I'm at college and studying Japanese and Quant. Econ. Love reading fantasy/manga in my free time, as well as breakdancing.

My name RichyRich is comes from a former username, RichyRitz, which itself is a derivative of the name I used in competitive super smash bros. melee, Ritz.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Using Steward's +2 coin early
« on: June 15, 2011, 03:31:33 pm »
In most cases, Steward is not a fast enough trasher to keep up with Witch or Mountebank, so you probably shouldn't be opening Steward with the intent of using it to trim your deck if those cards are available.

I won't make an absolute statement but... it's exceptionally hard for me to imagine a situation where taking $2 for Lab, Treasury, or Market instead of trashing with Steward at turn 3/4 would be anything short of a horrific blunder  ;)

This. If (read: when) your opponent goes for Mountebank your Steward probably won't keep up, so just go for the silver instead to avoid clashing terminals.

Other Games / Re: What other games do you enjoy playing?
« on: June 14, 2011, 03:50:09 am »
Boardgames: Catan, Chess, Diplomacy, Risk, Small World
Card Games: MtG
Video Games: Any Smash Bros. game, Mario Party 1-4 (too fun), assorted others

I used to be really serious about Super Smash Bros. Melee, but dropped out of the tournament scene when I started college. Would still love to play it, but there isn't that big of a community in Boston =/

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Beginner Game Flow + Strategy
« on: June 14, 2011, 01:50:43 am »
As Stoc said, the best way to learn strategies and ideas is simply to play the game with other people that have done it before. I had a somewhat better understanding of Dominion than you when I started isotropic, but since then I have learned a LOT, and it is because I have played a lot and saw a lot.

And something that more people are beginning to do (at least that I have noticed) is talk during the game and after the game. Asking your opponent what they're thinking during a game or after a game helps you get a better understanding of something they tried. Honestly, communication will help you learn a ton.

Hopefully this helps out. And remember, have fun first :D
