Dominion General Discussion / Re: Missing pieces in a new purchase
« on: March 09, 2024, 12:53:26 pm »
My copy of Renaissance had three different bundles.  However a different print run may have been collated such that two bundles could be the same.  You will have to check to see what you after you have sorted them.

In addition to the mats, coins, and cubes, you should have these cards —

A) 1 each of the following (Artifacts and Projects):

Flag
Horn
Key
Lantern
Treasure Chest

Academy
Barracks
Canal
Capitalism
Cathedral
Citadel
City Gate
Crop Rotation
Exploration
Fair
Fleet
Guildhall
Innovation
Pageant
Piazza
Road Network
Sewers
Silos
Sinister Plot
Star Chart

B) 25 different randomizers -- backs are different than the regular kingdom cards.

C) 10 each of the 25 different kingdom cards.

Acting Troupe
Border Guard
Cargo Ship
Ducat
Experiment
Flag Bearer
Hideout
Improve
Inventor
Lackeys
Mountain Village
Old Witch
Patron
Priest
Recruiter
Research
Scepter
Scholar
Sculptor
Seer
Silk Merchant
Spices
Swashbuckler
Treasurer
Villain

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Thought Experiment: Biggest opening turn
« on: February 14, 2024, 06:07:31 pm »
Remove Desperation.
Add Shelters and Way of the Mouse as Farmer's Market.

In a 4 player game, first three players play their Necropolis as Farmers market.
your turn, hand is:
Necropolis, 1 Copper, 1 Pouch, Cursed Gold, Capital
Play Necropolis as Farmers Market for +4
+ 11 from treasures
+1 from Coffers gets you to 16 and Double Province.

I think I'm missing something here.  How are we getting Capital in our opening hand?  If we're inheriting it with an Estate, that uses 1 Buy and 7 of our Coins, right?  So now I'm down to only 9 coins, right?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Dominion: Allies
« on: October 11, 2021, 11:51:10 am »
Up until now no card shaped thing has the same name as its expanion and the card Menagerie is from Cornucopia. I doubt Allies will show up in Allies.

Allies is the 14th expansion to Dominion. It has 400 cards, with 31 new Kingdom card piles. There are Allies that will do Favors for you, and split piles you can rotate.

Functionality blurb: "This is the 13th expansion to Dominion. It has 400 cards, with 30 new Kingdom cards. There are Horses that save a draw for later, Exile mats that cards can be sent to and rescued from, and Ways that give Actions another option. Events return."

I'd speculate that Allies might be a type and not the actual name of a card.

Dominion General Discussion / Anything coming in 2021?
« on: April 22, 2021, 10:25:05 pm »
Just curious if there's anything planned for Dominion this year.  Or will this be the first year since its release in 2008 with no new content?

Granted, 2014 only had Prince and 2019 only had Captain & Church.  Last year, however, was a banner year (2nd best in fact) with 70 new things for Dominion (30 Kingdoms, 20 Events, and 20 Ways).

Interesting.  Some of the Ways are not in the rule book.  Don't think we've ever seen that before.  "Some of the Ways are very simple. Here are notes for the others."

36 days until projected release date!

(I always like using square numbers as my markings for time -- as we get closer to the date, they come more frequently)
As is tradition, 36 days for me to figure out storage for this next set.

You figure it out in advance? That's probably smart. I just keep it in the original box until I can figure something out, which I inevitably don't get around to until months later. At least this time I managed to get around to Rennaissance storage a decent amount of time before the new one came out -- I think I didn't get around to Nocturne storage until about a week before Rennaissance.

Alas, I still have Renaissance in the original box.  :(

Dominion General Discussion / Re: All the errata in one place?

Wow, yes, Jeebus's document is amazing.  But, hhelibebcnofnena is correct, I am hoping to find something that just indicates all the things that are changed.

Is there somewhere I can find all the official errata in a single place?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Are promos worth it?
« on: January 10, 2019, 08:13:22 pm »
My favorites are probably Governor and Envoy. My least favorite is probably Dismantle, though, frankly, I don't dislike any of them.  I do like Black Market, but I only play with it when I play online -- I just haven't come up with an easy way to incorporate it IRL.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Who has all the expansions?
« on: January 10, 2019, 08:08:12 pm »
I have all expansions (1st edition Base/Intrigue + their 2nd edition update packs) and all promos.

I made my first purchases (the base set plus Envoy, Black Market, Stash, and Walled Village) in December of 2011.  I first played the game on Isotropic probably earlier that same year.  Since then, I added anything new as it was published plus one or two of the already existing expansions (Intrigue through Hinterlands) per year until I had them all.  Except for Guilds -- for some reason I think I waited about a year to pick that one up -- not sure why I waited.

I've played two games at Dominion.Games, neither of which had new cards. Do only subscription players get them?

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Sloggiest cards?
« on: September 22, 2018, 05:01:52 pm »
Thanks for all the suggestions and good ideas.  This is what we ended up doing -- everyone seemed to have a great time and find somewhere they had fun playing.

Table 1 was just the base set.  This one probably got played the most all night.  Possibly because the games were quicker, but I also think because some of the guests were more inexperienced than I had realized they would be.  After the initial setup, they would just swap out 0-2 cards between games.

For table 2 I set up  the Area Control predefined sets for Empires/Adventures (Capital, Catapult/Rocks, Charm, Crown, Farmers' Market, Coin of the Realm, Page, Relic, Treasure Trove, Wine Merchant, Banquet, and Keep).  This table was such a draw because most of the experienced players we had over had never played with the newer sets so they all wanted to try it.  They were longer games, but everyone who played it loved trying out the new stuff (i.e., Traveller, Split Stack, Event, Land Mark, Tavern Mat).  We never modified this table at all.

Table 3 was set up so the people who were familiar with the older sets could have more variety, i just had 5 cards each from Intrigue, Seaside, and Prosperity, and then rotated through the three different combinations (i.e., 5 Intrigue + 5 Seaside; then 5 Intrigue + 5 Prosperity; then 5 Seaside + 5 Prosperity).  This also worked just fine.

Before we started, I had planned on doing entirely different set ups on tables 1 and 2 between games, but I realized that really wasn't necessary.  I think if we do this again (and from feedback given, I'm sure we will). I'll just set up 3 tables and then not even mess with them.  For those who wanted more variety, I found they just needed to move to a different table.

Ultimate lesson learned — Dominion really does have something for everyone.  Well, everyone who likes playing deck-building games, anyway. :)

Bonus lesson learned — I had avoided Alchemy (for reasons that can probably be guessed), but quite a few people asked about it specifically — so it's not as unpopular as some might think.

Dominion General Discussion / Sloggiest cards?
« on: September 11, 2018, 05:08:24 pm »
My wife is planning to have several people over to play Dominion next week.  We own every set (including Base Cards and 1E Intrigue) so we are planning to set up 3 different tables.

A few of the people coming are pretty lightweight when it comes to games, so I want to make sure I don't accidentally set up something that can really turn a game into a slog-fest.  Any thoughts on what individual cards or combos should be avoided to meet this objective would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have played probably less than 100 IRL games.

I have played thousands of online games.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Asking for Undo
« on: November 13, 2017, 11:33:20 am »
When I ask for an undo by clicking on the link for it, nothing happens.  Are there setting related to this, like does my opponent have an "auto-deny" set or something?

16
Sorry for the made up percentages, they're just a means to express my idea, I have absolutely no idea if they would be even close to correct.

Shoot, I make up percentages to express ideas about 47% of the time.

17
I Princed a Skulk today.  It was pretty sweet to hit with that Hex every turn.

18
I ran into a "negative boon" scenario in my first online game with them.

I had all my cards either in play or in my hand when I received the boon that has you draw two cards and discard two cards.  Since donate was on the board, I had no garbage.  I hadn't started greening yet, so I had to discard two silvers.

On the plus side, I finally gained a Ghost in that game.  It was pretty fun.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: How many Events and Landmarks do you use?
« on: September 13, 2017, 04:19:49 pm »
However many Jack of All Dominion serves up. So, zero, one, or two.

Edit: FYI, "Randomly include up to 2" is just one of four possible settings in Jack of All Dominion.  The others are:

- Never include
- Randomly include up to 3
- Always include 2 Events/Landmarks

Dominion General Discussion / Re: When did you start playing?
« on: September 12, 2017, 02:03:23 pm »
December 2011 I bought the base set and the promos Envoy, Black Market, Stash, and Walled Village.  I believe this was shortly after Hinterlands released.  I slowly filled in my collection over the next few years until I bought Guilds and Prince in 2014.  At that point, I owned everything Dominion.

During that time, I didn't necessarily buy then in order.  I do remember buying the Base Cards and Dark Ages right when they released, but those were it.

Adventures and forward, I have purchased everything new as it has become available.

I think I discovered Isotropic shortly after my initial investment in paper cards and played there some.

I have played all the official online versions to some extent.

I got into Androminion shortly after I got my first mobile phone in the fall of 2012.  Where I have played literally thousands of fully random games.

Dominion General Discussion / Re: Dominion Confessions

I'll be the one to end the joke!

Serious confession: I buy Treasure Map far more often than I would like to admit, despite fully understanding that without Alms or a good sifter there are typically better things I could be spending my $4 on...

Ah, Treasure Map.  The payoff is such a thrill, I can understand what people see in gambling.  Getting that hit on turn 5... nothing better.
