"I've had worse.."

Monty Python has permanently engraved plenty of stuff in my brain, but this is one quote I consistently use in everyday life because it's so flexible. Work, parties, online gaming, it's useful everywhere!

- I can't believe what a bunch of nerds we are. We're looking up "money laundering" in a dictionary.

And basically the rest of Office Space, too.

Thank you, I'll have to stay at work for another hour now to get a full day.

But seriously: thank you. I love these kinds of articles!

I got a bit lost in your explanation there Tables, mostly because Watchtower can't do anything with trashed cards. But! Since you mention Market Square: do you mean reveal Watchtower to trash a card, then reveal Market Square to gain a gold? As far as I understand it MS says "when one of your cards is trashed", but I'm not sure that the trashed card ever gets to be yours to begin with.

Suggestions?

Feedback / Re: Future DominionStrategy tournaments?
« on: December 16, 2011, 04:30:14 am »
I don't know if I agree with a multiplayer tournament, we've already had several cases of last minute plays and some forfeits because it can be hard enough to find a time with a single opponent in another timezone. I imagine (pure speculation) trying to do this with two opponents can be difficult. Even if the starting brackets consist of players in similar timezone (already a pain according to theory), once the starting rounds are over it'll be a complete mix.

Disclaimer: 3-player dominion is my favorite.

I agree with the two a year, also because the tournament itself takes some time to finish. Concerning holidays, you'll probably hit them regardless of time of year.

Carry on.

10 KC'd embargos (there's no "if you do..") would give him -24 on a province buy, no? With the -16 from fool's gold->gold->fairgrounds, I get 40. Unless I ignored a bit in the manual saying no more than 10 embargo tokens can be placed.

I tried making that the implied message of my post.  :)

How about any timezone? When no place on earth counts 31st of december, deadline has passed for certain.

Put all three wharves on top of the sole King's Court, problem solved.

Note that each line in the log represents two cards being drawn, not one.

EDIT: If it's so that you only draw 3x2 cards I'd like to know why, I'm happy to be proven wrong. As I see it each of the three wharves is played thrice, making nine played wharves giving you two cards each.

While I agree that 0 is a part of the "any number" set, both cards do refer to "the trashed card(s)" so I'm not convinced either.

(2) playing King's Court-Wharf will give you 6 cards this turn and next turn, but playing KC-KC-Wharf-Wharf-Wharf will not give you 3x3x2 cards next turn
Unless I misunderstood something (quite possible), Isotropic begs to differ:

— Your turn 16 —
You draw 2 Golds and get +1 buy from your Wharf.
You had played the Wharf with a King's Court.
You draw a Gold and a Silver and get +1 buy from your Wharf.
You draw a King's Court and get +1 buy from your Wharf.
You draw nothing and get +1 buy from your Wharf.
You had played the Wharf with a King's Court.
You draw nothing and get +1 buy from your Wharf.
You draw nothing and get +1 buy from your Wharf.
You draw nothing and get +1 buy from your Wharf.
You had played the Wharf with a King's Court.
You draw nothing and get +1 buy from your Wharf.
You draw nothing and get +1 buy from your Wharf.

Wharf has no "while this is in play" clause. I only draw nothing because the deck's empty, but apart from that..

I seriously doubt you can get there, because unlike with chess, dominion has a significant luck element which draws you ever back toward parity.
So we're looking for the Phil Ivey of Dominion instead of the Kasparov.

Since they have no "while this is in play" clause, I view the treasure in the same way as any other type of +action/buy/coins. Once the card is played you've got its bonus, no matter what happens to the card afterwards.

I play because I like the game and have fun with it, being cooperative usually ensures it stays that way.

Well, it doesn't matter because I played poorly and lost a whopping 4-0(1).

Game 1, no contest
I'm thinking good old BM with the help of Bridge will do the trick while having bolonis Bishop help me trash a bit. My deck just got started and I was looking to get a 5-3 province split when he disconnected.

Game 2: Buggz 35 - boloni 44
We're both thinking the same thing and quickly empty the fishing villages remaking our estates. We start stocking up on duchies when none of us wants to break the PPV and we're in a 2 or 3 point lead every other turn. He decides to break it leaving me in the position to win if I can just get $8. I got $7.

BGame 3: Buggz 12 - boloni 25
We start off with a shortlived mountebank war. I glance a bit at the peddler-city combo but forget about extra buys, so when the spice merchant slows down I do too. Having very little experience with scheme I completely overlooked it, boloni didn't and secured his victory.

Game 4: Buggz 24 - boloni 30
When boloni buys a potion I decide to ignore university and try to amass as many highways as possible before he gets going. I'm able to get 8 of them securing me easy provinces, but I sacrifice almost all my tresure to the spice merchant while doing so. When I slow down boloni speeds up and gets me in the nick of time.

Game 5: Buggz 1 - boloni 13
I played horribly, enough said. I ignored the minions because it's a colony game, but boloni is smarter than that and uses them to get some provinces while the piles are emptied. It's a rather nasty kingdom with both minion, mountebank AND ghost ship present. He manages to destroy my first ghost ship, and even though I get three more I only get to play it once. I suffer a complete brainfart when I even help him empty the piles at the end.

Congrats and well played, boloni!

PS: Did I just discredit the first player advantage?

EDIT: Gardens division.

No particularly insurmountable advantage, but I was close to having the best part off a province split. I think we'll just ignore that game.

In my first game with boloni he had a disconnect in the 12th turn and was after a while automatically booted from the game. Points before the disconnect was 22 to 18 points in my favor. How would you rule that, theory?
